Impressions/observations during the test drive:
The interior materials of this vehicle is good and is on par with its competition in the same model year. The combination of soft-touch materials and hard surfaces is alright. When driving (and riding), the comfort is not bad, and is just something one would expect from a ladder-framed SUV.
The power and torque of the car's engine is more than enough for uphill driving, especially with the low-end torque of a diesel engine. This makes it enjoyable to drive as the power and torque is really felt. Power and torque are always available throughout the rev-range of the engine, even at lower RPMs - which is an advantage of a turbo-diesel engine. The steering is communicative, which is very nice because it is easy to feel what is going on with the front tires (the way you're going through bumps, etc). It is a good thing to have this kind of steering feel especially in situations where there would be many turns on the road such as mountain roads. Behind the steering wheel, there are paddle shifters which gives the driver control over the gears in manual mode (the gears can also be controlled in the gear lever - push it to upshift, and pull it to downshift). In manual mode, the transmission has a slight delay in its response to the inputs by the driver. However, that is not something that diminishes the usefulness of the manual mode in this car. The engine sound, especially when shifting on a higher RPM adds to the driving experience. In regards to the way of using manual mode, this is subjectively preferable over the Everest's manual mode which is controllable with buttons on the gear shifter only. In regards to accelerating, the gas pedal is normally responsive to driver inputs. However for slowing down, the brake pedal has just a very small travel (depth of stepping on the pedal) wherein there is no response yet. The heaviness of the steering is normal for these SUVs, though. Being a ladder-framed SUV, its weight is more obvious especially on turns where body roll would be experienced.
