    Absolutely amazing how these new rail designs break off just right and allow these men and women to walk away, not even mentioning the SF6 fire retardant flowing at first hint of collision. Simply amazing how safe this insane sport has become... Some superstars have paid the ultimate price, May their souls rest in peace.

    I've seen crashes just as bad and worse at the track in the 70'-00's and 99% of them walked away from there wrecks even if they were on fire cause fire suits been mandatory for a long time now racing has actually been a fairly safe sport for a long time now, I saw the black and decker jet car blew up at super Chevy show at Memphis Motorsports park in about 1992 I talked to him 30 mins later he was fine

    Great production in this video, I must have watched it 20+ times in a few days, well done whoever put this together 👍 The slowmo sequences are amazing. Seeing the actual sequence of events that happen in the blink of an eye is so cool. Imagine you car engine letting go so violently at regular speeds, let alone 200mph plus!! Love the wheelie section! Unless you've experienced these beasts in person you just don't know 😉

    Rodrigo Tarpinian I realize this really isn't an excuse,but a lot of the tracks simply don't have the property and/or zoning to add hundreds of feet to the shutdown area..... a lot of these tracks have nearly a 1/2 mile shutdown ....but at 300mph.... that goes away quickly

  • @TheMoezilla

    @TheMoezilla

    6 жыл бұрын

    Rodrigo Tarpinian...Pure speed sir. 340 mph in a 1000 ft is fast enough. Although you won't be seeing that again anytime soon if the rumors are true. NHRA plans on turning the rev limiters down on the fuel coupes. They were never turned up for the rails...unsure why. Kevin M also hit it right on the head with the property/zoning comment. A mile of track at every stop would be ideal, just not feasible for every track owner besides Bruton Smith.

    NHRA, 320 feet short of a real drag race. They went to 1,000 foot racing as a knee jerk reaction and touted it was about safety. I believe that Allen Johnson said it best, the rule change will just make us learn how to blow them up in a shorter distance. Take a look at some of the slow mo camera footage, great stuff by the way, and you will see that they are popping of the complete blower and intake manifold, a couple of the cars look like it blew the whole block apart and off of the chassis. Sounds like they have mastered the art of destruction in less than 1,000 feet.

    Eric Gagnon...Might have been a knee jerk reaction but it has been all about safety. Besides the 1000 ft change, NHRA also mandated engine and fuel shut offs, parachute activation when catastophic explosions like Kalitta's occur. Heard of any fuel racers killing themselves running through the traps since? Just saying...

    It was more about adding 320 feet to the shut-down length than shortening the race. Many tracks were built when 150 mph was fast. At 200 mph their safety was marginal and at 300 mph something had to be done.
