Great video and great mpg

This is so cool

If I recall correctly, the 2012 kia rio was one car that kia "over estimated the mpg. They had to reduce it to like 36 mpg from 40 mpg. My 2012 kia rio averaged 44+ mpg average on the highway. I went from that into a 2016 vw beetle with a turbo engine. The power is nice but I miss the mpg so seriously considering the kia niro. Hybrids have always interested me but they have always been so ugly

pedro fernandez Thanks, Pedro! Camera position was good on this one. The center LCD screen is visible and the built-in audio is sufficient.

Nice video, this car seems to use the hybrid system better than the sonata hybrid which its engine starts too soon, i am sure that the ioniq have better fuel economy than the Niro.

My Odyssey is supposed to get 28 on the highway and I drove from Tampa, Florida to Fayetteville, North Carolina and averaged 32.5 the whole way while hypermiling! And I have a lot of weight with a rood box too because I live in my van. :P Pretty damn good mpg for a 4,500+ pound vehicle. Haha

Great video! My wife and I picked up a 2017 Niro LX this week. Loving it so far!

Thanks! It replaced my '06 Saturn Vue with 204,000 miles (and the Honda V6), which was getting around 18-20mpg city.

Dennis Midkiff bought one on 3/2/18. Niro LX 👍 so far I do like this vehicle.

Good video, other than MPG, how was driving experience with Kia Niro compared to other hybrids like Toyota Prius? Handling, speeding, any noise, fit and finish and quality.

ahbrian A Thanks! The Niro compares well with the Prius. Fit & finish are good. I like the Niro's more conventional dash & exterior. If you're considering both, try driving them back-to-back.

I get 80+ daily from Lake Los Angeles to Van Nuys, Los Angeles County all the way, coasting almost 12 miles continuously. About 50-55 coming back uphill, both going about 60 average speed.

I just got 77.6 mpg today going to an appointment. I was like omg no way, it’s supposed to be up to 75 mpg 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have the Niro LX, which has no sunroof or power lumbar seat. If you are driving a EX, or Touring/Launch, that is 1 to 7 less MPG per EPA, so your results are impressive. I have found using the A/C makes little or no difference, because it is an electric not belt driven compressor. So it uses elec, which is replenished vs. loading the gas engine with a belt. Also you might notice there is a marked buffeting effect when you open a window all the way down, because of the low drag coefficient. From my experience, the "per trip" MPG gauge is not as accurate as the tank MPG gauge. After 12 fillups, I am averaging 55.2MPG, using a manual calculation. The tank gauge has shown about 2 MPG higher. I am not a hypermiler by any stretch, just a sensible driver. I am really happy about the MPG, and the Niro as a whole.

Well done! The Niro's a sweet little car. Tank-by-tank #s are the way to go. Each test vehicle only stays with me for a week, so there's not enough time to roll up a thousand miles.

Dissapointing ... It would have been really useful and considerably more interesting to have the camera facing forward so we can observe the eco dial and the road conditions etc rather than the side of your face and the rear view window.

@@pooroldibbs Wow! That's cool. I didn't know that this existed. Thanks for the heads-up. Unfortunately the eco meter still cannot be viewed to see how it varies under differing road conditions, terrain etc. This is somthing that I would be interested in seeing.
