Dude, I put 285k miles on a Tahoe... And Buddy of mine just traded his Tahoe in at 405k. That is completely unheard of these day throughout the SUV community. If sacrificing creature comforts means picking up mileage, I am okay with this... But I appreciate your perspective...

@@usa1144 Hey Dude, Yup, I still drive my 2007 Tahoe LS with 386k. Never missed an oil change, if something ever "sounded weird"; it went to the shop. Over the last five years, I have gotten the most bizarre phone calls about that truck. Someone offered me 20k cash for my truck; I paid 21k for the truck in 2009. I asked him "Dude, I appreciate it, but Why?" He did everything within his power to not answer that question; so I told him to "Alright, now you are acting shady, and you can f*ck off". He absolutely lost it on the phone. "Who the f*ck do you think you are... Blah... Blah... Blah". I just hung up on him...

@@Stopvotingdemocrat First, great name! This was my logic back in 2012 when I was going to trade my Tahoe in... The Salesman looked at me and said "you took great care of the truck, and we are going to be able to re-sell it by the end of the week". I looked at him like WTF..? Nah Dude, give me the keys back, I am out of here... I LOVE my truck! Just put in a new stereo, and gun-safes for my rifles and kit. And I definitely need a paint job or wrap. My truck is paid off, Chevy is willing to fix it as long as I want it, and who wants to spend 50k to 60k on an SUV that can be remote controlled? Nah, I am good...

I was enjoying the video, but stopped when you completely blew one of your hates. The center console screen moves, because it has to move in order to operate the way it does. It slides up to show a hidden compartment for iPhone or anything you want. It tells me you did no research. I get the feeling that if you knew that, you would have mentioned. Also, you didn’t mention just how much better the suspension is than in the previous models, 2014 and older. The magnetic ride suspension is awesome. I’ve had a ‘12 and now an ‘18, and the new suspension rocks. “Wallowy”??? Is that a word? As for the finishes, I agree, but it is a truck. If you want the refined version, try Escalade or Yukon Denali. As for the entertainment package, do not buy aftermarket. It’s less than $300 difference for real leather Vice vinyl, and also the peace of mind on warranty. Yet still, found your vid informative, thanks.

I agree with almost all the points you made. On smooth freeway the ride might as well be a limo. However, the ride quality does fall apart and body on frame became apparent over crowned, unsmooth roads and driving over potholes. The whole chassis jitters and shakes, though the shocks and insulation are so well done to filter out most of it, you still notice it.

This is my third Tahoe and fifth SUV. While I use this as a people mover, it is also used to tow and for utilitarian purposes. I actually sent Chevy a longer version of this, but of course never heard back from anyone. First the side mirrors are way too small. Dangerously too small. There are cars that have bigger mirror than the mirrors on this full size SUV. The rear windows is too small, and the backup camera is of no use when you are backing a trailer up. Also the rear cargo windows also create blind spots since the mirrors are useless. The receiver hitch in the bumper it too high and you are forced to use a 8" dropper to trailer what I used to use as a 2" dropper. The extra drop also reduces towing capacity. The prior Tahoe's had larger seats, and built in arm rests. I miss those seats on long rides. The design of the roof also makes me frustrated every time it rains and I open the door and water drips in on the seat I am about to sit in. I don't know who that was missed in design. If you had a Tahoe before you will recognize the deficiencies I mentioned, and the others I did not. If this is your first Tahoe, you will probably not be as sad that you missing so much from the prior versions. They did do a nice job on the engine switching from 8 to 4 cylinders to save gas. That works nice especially in level terrain. I the North East its not as great as NC or SC where it would ride along on the highway at 75 in 4 mode.

None of the things you mentioned bother me, but you really missed an opportunity to talk about how horrible the rear cup holders are placed in the door. It is epic fail functionally for a family vehicle, when everything else is above average or excellent. The first week I owned the vehicle, my family and friends spilled their coffee 3 times while shutting their door. There should be some sort of rear cup holder behind the center console near the floorboard.

Seems like the “enthusiast” reviews rarely parallel the real world customer experience with these vehicles. This means that a real world customer who may could likely be watching this video to help with buyer decision would think these are major, major issues and not buy one. When, in reality, they would be just as happy as the other real world daily drivers and likely not pay any attention to these problems. Some of these “problems” are not unique to GM, they are characteristic of trucks and SUV’s that weigh 6k lbs. Title should read: 5 Things I Hate About Trucks and SUV’s. Lastly, I know this won’t sway your opinion at all or change how you review future vehicles, but it did feel worth saying. I can tell you like the vehicle overall, but your delivery comes off as “these are major, major issues and you should avoid this car at all cost.” Lighten it up a bit. Balance it out. A sizable chunk of your audience - I would think - are shopping for a new vehicle and are making decisions based off what you are saying.

Bought a 2016 Tahoe in February 2020. Honestly? I'd rather drive our 2002 Tahoe LT. The 2016 seats are not nearly as comfortable. Kind of flat and hard and slippery. And take forever to heat up in winter. The console in it is HUGE. seriously. You can put a case of beer in the thing! If you're the passenger & want to open it, the driver has to move their arm as the arm rests are part of it. It also limits the amount of space for both front seats., which by the way are narrower than older models. I also hate the side mirrors. They're literally half the size of my 2002. Horrible. There are really bad blind spots due to the wider pillars. I could go on and on, GM really missed the mark on updating the Tahoe line IMO. Oh, almost forgot. The cargo area is quite a bit smaller than older 2000-2007 models and is slightly inclined. You can't believe how many groceries etc will just fall right out when opening the rear hatch. I'm assuming due to the auto folding 3rd row seating aud as far as we know is NOT removable. 😡

The steering wheel is offset in the Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra 1500 and its related vehicles (Chevy Tahoe/Suburban; GMC Yukon/Yukon XL; Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV). From what I've heard, it simply had to do with how the frame was originally designed and how they were able to mount the power steering rack. It's a very small issue and essentially every owner I've ever spoken to doesn't even notice it after the first week or two.

Now the equivalent truck is going for 60K. GM is making a killing on these things. BTW - any unusual vibrations at certain speeds or a sensation of pressure on your ears?

We traded our '12 Tahoe LT for the '17 6 weeks ago. It was a lease car with 20k on it. Would trade back for our '12 in a minute. The '17 is rougher riding but does not have the magnetic ride. Another gripe for a car this expensive is that it does not have electric folding mirrors as the '12 did. You don't realize how much you use them until you don't have them. The seats are harder. I am short legged and the driver's seat will not tilt downward in the front enough to make it comfortable for the legs. The seat backs on both front seats are hard. You can feel the lumbar support bags across the back. It has a terrible buffeting noise on the driver's window side. Everyone that has driven it can hear it but the service guys. Supposedly there is a TSB on it but service guys could not find it. One decided it was only for sun roofs. Had a squealing bearing type noise coming from behind the dash and glove box area. They replaced the heater motor to no avail. Still squealing so they replaced the A/C compressor and it is somewhat quieter but I think we are just getting used to it. I do not like the lane change thingy. If you try to change lanes and it thinks you shouldn't, it vibrates your butt on the side it doesn't want you to go. The steering wheel will also resist you as you try to move over into another lane. Sometimes because there is a car in that lane and sometimes not. Just not happy with this car. Going to try a different dealership. Unless I get some of these issues repaired, I think there will be a Ford in our future.
