2016 - 2017 Compact Sedan Comparison - Kelley Blue Book

Why put the base price but show the most expensive model?
These cars are no longer "compact." I saw the new Civic parked next to a 2005 Accord and it was damn near bigger.

I have a Sentra, I actually really like it. I wanted a affordable car with a tight turning radius for city driving and I got exactly that. I'm a pretty tall guy so leg room was huge for me and other cars just weren't as roomy. For anyone looking in the market make sure you give it a look!

It's weird they didn't use the SR model for the sentra
Was gonna say the Elantra hands down, but that civic turbocharged 1.5 pushing out 174hp is really nice. Between these 2 is hard.
Some gimmicks are Honda: brake hold (how much energy does it take keep your foot on the brake like none) and lane watch (compared to radar blind spot detection because lane watch doesn't do anything for driver's side, camera can't see in blizzard, gets distorted from rain (water on lens), and at night because you can't tell distance from white light shining at camera also being that then the screen will light up bright white in a dark interior blinding you). Elantra: hands free smart trunk (when won't you have at least a knuckle or finger to poke at the button on the trunk lid being with a proximity key. Also when ever you stand behind the car the trunk will open even if you don't want it to so the back of the car is off limits. At least this can be turned off so the annoyance goes away and turn it back on when you really are loaded). Sentra: Just look at the reviews for Nissan Connect if you want a good infotainment system that works with your phone because Nissan shows that they don't care by having a class worst app that is broken.

overfiendavi1 It is a big loss to sell a car period through depression. It is smart to keep it till the end or as long as repairs don't coast a new car. America's pm best warranty from Hyundai will protect you from that better than Honda's
@instasingingvids3529
6 жыл бұрын
Peter Gilbert lol why does Hyundai need such a long warranty are they scared their vehicle will have problems before 100,000miles? They must be with Honda they don’t need a long warranty as they are already reliable
@zachone172
6 жыл бұрын
I actually hate having to keep my foot on the brake. If you’ve ever lived in the city, especially after getting off work, keeping your foot on the gas at red lights that seem to last forever is annoying. And in drive thrus that take 20 minutes to get to the window lol.
@zachone172
6 жыл бұрын
Señor Loco I think having a long warranty would be the opposite of their vehicle breaking. Why would you put such a long warranty on a vehicle because you think it will break before then? The whole “point” would be for the car to fail after the warranty is over, not before.
It seems to me the Sentra went a bit backwards. Not only did they not do anything "new" for their refresh, they added halogen taillights when the previous model had LEDs. WHAT MANUFACTURER DOES THIS! Its a small thing but it really bugs me. Why would they introduce and implement new technology before and then go back with old tech in the future
@3201gonzales
8 жыл бұрын
exactly! I hope sales go down to realize what they have done wrong!!
@matt9759
6 жыл бұрын
Honda went from LED tail lights to halogen in the 7th generation Accord. Toyota did the same thing with the 6th generation Camry. Towards the end of production, when the old body style is being phased out, just before the redesign is released, a lot of car makers decontent and "cheapen" the old ones
I own a 2016 Nissan Sentra, but I would most definitely prefer a 2016 or newer Honda Civic. But ehh, I can’t complain. As long as it can get the job done. Point A to Point B and back.
they call all plastic door siding cheap....but in reality they are better because they dont get dirty as the siding with cloth accent
test drove the exact same cruze in this comparison minus safety package because i don't want or need it and even though it was priced high when i sat in the driver seat it felt very much worth the cash. im not a fan of the elentra because it feels and drives like a sub par vehicle compared to the 3 top vehicles in my opinions, corolla, civic and cruze. i think cruze has best power train and interior, civic has the best driving dynamics and reliability and corolla is just a bullet proof package
@dustinanderson5886

I'd say Cruze > Elantra > Civic. All 3 are good looking cars but the Cruze has far and away the best interior.

WHERE IS THE MAZDA 3?
Is it just me or does the Civic's chrome piece on the front look tacked on?
Very good review and candid on all types!
What I don't get is that IMO, they didn't even include the best 3 compact sedans, really no reason to include the Sentra, Honda is obviously paying KBB to ignore every flaw with the Civic My list: 1. Mazda 3 (72): Best-looking compact, interior and exterior, best-driving compact car, plenty of good features 2. Subaru Impreza (81): Includes AWD, good-looking exterior, good reliability 3. Toyota Corolla (77): Includes most safety features in base model, good reliability, admittedly very boring overall 4. Chevy Cruze (78) 5. Hyundai Elantra (66) 6. Honda Civic (58): Honda really failed with exterior look, doesn't have any BSM, just inferior LaneWatch, horrible reliability, just trying to coast on reputation this year 7. Nissan Sentra (62) (CR score)
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I might pick the Cruze over the Civic. I can't decide; do I want an ignition lock that sends my car into the ditch or an exploding airbag that kills me with shrapnel?
As far as exterior cosmetics go, my 2 favorites were easily the Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra.
what i have learned so far is that Americans Seems to resent CVT which is not the case in Asia.
What about the Toyota Corolla? Or the Mazda 3? Or the Ford Focus?
You guys put the Sentra in but not the Corolla...what the hell are you guys doing? The only car here that is in the same league as the Corolla in sales volume is the Civic. Why would you leave it out?
@ricardocardenas570
7 жыл бұрын
Yes I mean to me (I don't mean to be that weird guy but I) it feels like it's all manipulated against the corolla and Mazda 3 because everything is Civic Civic Civic or Sentra but really? The Civic is Ok I drive it and yes it's ok but hmmmm idk still isn't as engaging as a Mazda 3 and the corolla I know looks boring but it's one of the best selling nameplates ever and deserves a place in the automotive world. Bad for you KBB
Not liking your comparisons, KBB. It would be nice to get your top 3 out of this 4 car pack. Not have the end user compile all the information presented and try to remember the pro's and con's. Certainly, when making a purchase, one will take the information down to make sure things like the lack of volume knob on the Civic is something that one can live without. But for the casual KZread viewer, I'd like to know what you guys think are your top picks in any comparisons you make. I know that the Civic came on top, but what are the next cars behind it?
mazda 3 is best in class for overall performance and looks in my opinion.
I'm surprised the Kia Forte and Subaru Impreza weren't included for this test. The Forte had a refresh, and the Impreza is all new for 2017. I guess what goes for the Elantra goes for the Forte.
Would like to see a luxury SUV comparison perhaps with the Range Rover Sport, Cayenne, Mercedes GL and X5 put through their paces towing, off-road, city traffic and cruising.
where are the compact sedans?
The best car in the class is the Subaru Impreza. Well stocked for around 23K, including fantastic all-wheel drive. It manages good mileage even with it.
the sentra should be thrown in the garbage when u compare it to the civic. once you put LED light in the damn car you just can't take them back and throw some conventional bulb.

I drove behind one yesterday and noticed the same thing.. Guess you have to cost cut somewhere.. Especially after you put the previous-gen maxima steering wheel in for the refresh lmao
I wish they would do a subcompact hatchback comparison.
I hate to be that guy, but the Mazda 3 still wins the compact category, even though it's not in this comparison.

Mazda3 or Corolla for me; if I bought a cheap, compact car, I'd keep it for a very long time, and I'm not keen on keeping a turbocharged engine for over a decade.
Elantra love u long time!
you can see the lag in the cruzes screen
could you guys do a comparison on hatchbacks? like compact/midsize? Love your videos.
Instead of buying two Civics, I'll take a Genesis Coupe
For those who drive compact cars, do you prefer the sedan version or the hatchback version? I would like to see KBB do the same test with the hatchback versions. It looks like both versions sell. I'm still surprised that Nissan doesn't have a hatchback version of the Sentra. I thought they would have had one with this incarnation.
Does the 2L mitsubishi lancer ex compare to these cars? it is priced better than all these and that can also be a deciding factor
which one has better fuel consumption?
the honda civic is my favorite one
"Not the Quietest or Smoothest" but I'm guessing all these cars sound and feel A lot better than my mothers 2009 Saturn Vue right ?
@mightymoe1917
7 жыл бұрын
Adam Jehu I'll tell you the real truth, the all new Cruze is the smoothest and quietest among all these. Read the reviews they all say this. It basically depends on what you want. If you don't put on a lot of miles then honestly a good lease deal is best for any of these. My next door neighbor has the 2017 Cruze LT with the RS package in all black, it's very nice and she's only paying $150.00 per month for a 3 year 36,000 lease.plus you get wi-f, satellite color touch radio, onstar, oil changes and tire rotations for the lease. Not a bad insensitive honestly. Her husband let me drive it with him to the party store, and I'll tell you it's much much nicer, quicker, and better than my sisters 2014 Cruze LT by far. 👍🏻

People who buy brand new compact sedans for over 25k are out of their mind. You can get a slightly used G35 with AWD or a used Acura TL for this kind of price. Plus, these are much bigger and more powerful cars. Cars are not investments, so why would you spend a ridiculous amount of money on a compact sedan that will drastically lose it resale value faster than any other type of vehicle?
