Remember the great Julius Watkins, jazz player in the 60s

I show this clip to my 7 years old son who is learning French Horn and he fell in love with this tune instantly.

Jazz on a French Horn--played clean and accurately, nice and smooth. Has a reputation of being too hard for jazz. Joan's answer: Give it to a kid to play, he's never read that stuff. Treat him as a serious student--like the others--and watch what happens. Congrats to Max and to Joan. My next suggestion is to get him up to writing his own solos--but this is pretty darn good.

Yeah, don't tell Max his instrument is not suited for this. And Joel Frahm, damn!

Joel Frahm is incredible ... He fits every scale known to mankind within a bar and it sounds awesome ...

I played Horn for twenty years before I went off to the business world, and I have nightmares about having to improvise on that instrument. You really have to have a great ear to play Horn, and young Mr. Salgado has it. Also, great breath control and articulation. Bravo!

How can you not love people who make this music.

I want to say few things: 1- I see jazz and french horn at the same time? Wanna watch!!! 2- I see jazz and so many young people? Wanna watch!!! 3- Chamorro is the artistic director? Wanna watch!!!

Chamarros secret to the joy of his youngsters making music is Joan himself. If you watch him you can see he is having great fun. As their teacher and mentor, his attitude is conveyed to them. Aren't they all having a grand time. Congratulations to all and thank you so much.

It's great to see young people enjoying the classics of past generations

I love these kids so much! And when Andrea Motis begins dancing in her chair at 0:08, I know that jazz is in good hands with this group of young people.

Just watched this one again to compare to the 2021. I Like this one more. Love these young people. Also, appreciate the adults involved and the great "man in black director" and Senor Monne's arreglo. That Muted Trompa by Max is the smoothest most beautiful sound. And finally, the many smiles from the young people ... delightful.

All this young talent together is driving me insane. And I love the girl playing her bass intensely and enjoying the music at the same time.

I don't know how many times I've seen this video. it's fascinating every time. MAX SALGADO proves that a horn can do much more than just play for hunting. It's always amazing to me and if you look at his musical colleagues in the orchestra, they probably feel the same way. My absolute respect!

I think this is the prettiest song ever written. The French hornist nailed it totally. Outstanding arrangement and Mr. Jobim is listening and prouud of these youngsters. Keep them coming Joan!!!

It is amazing, how many of my favorite tunes are now the Sant Andreu Jazz Band versions of those same tunes. Pretty much all of AC Jobim's works, New Orleans standards, whatever Joan C. gets his band to play.

Wow..who said French Horn could not be a jazz instrument? They need to hear this young feller...so cool..and nothing beats the tone...maybe a Flugelhorn comes close...depends..love both, myself. Oh yeah, I used to play French Horn before switching to Flugelhorn...true story...haha! Joan Chamorro could be the greatest jazz teacher in the world..look at how young these kids are!

Such a beautiful rendition of this bossa nova tune. I just discovered Joan and his big band on KZread recently and I’m in awe of everything I’ve listened to so far. Truly some of the very best big band music I’ve ever heard.

So much talent here, a great arrangement too - and a pleasure to hear at all! Many thanks and many hugs to these incredible musicians. :-)

Max and Joel make this number smooth. A great arrangement with the big band in the background. Way to go Joan.

Un thème d'une exceptionnelle beauté magnifiquement servi par ses interprètes. Quelle belle idée de l'avoir confié au cor et un immense bravo à Max Salgado qui y est fantastique. Quel dommage que Max ne fasse que de brèves apparitions au SAJB. Quant au très parkerisant Joel Frahm, il tout simplement parfait;

With all the great talent and expression so beautiful I could not help to notice other young students sitting on the top step of the riser. Maestro Chamorro includes his up and coming, brings them on stage during the concerts to show them this is how it is done. I do not know but maybe I cracked one of his brilliant secrets. Doubtful. With whole hearted respect and admiration from Los Angeles. Gracies.

I second you in admiration and respect - Joan C lives the band and Jazz lives through him! On the riser, at 1:38, I recognise Alba Esteban (also in the background, center at 3:23, with the carnation), Koldo Munne, Elsa Armengou, and I suspect Abril Sauri in the left - band members who "take a break" in this song. It is common habit that the lineup varies - these are kids, after all!
