I discovered this performance maybe three months ago and have watched it nearly every day since, often more than once. I love Magnarelli's horn work here. Yet, Joanna and the chorus so completely capture me that his first notes always arrive unexpected. This is as close to perfect as performances get, IMHO. Wonderful even by SAJB's amazing standard.

I have to coment the arrangment of Joan Monné! Rhythm group, a solo trumpet and flugelhorn by an established professional... and voices.... looks like the brass and reed sections have abandonned their instruments and doin' it "by mouth only". So smooth, highly harmonical... the sound reminds me of Ray Conniff, or the Singers Unlimited and Swingle Singers. In short: The Sant Andreu Singers !

I only wish my parents were alive to see Andrea and the other SAJB current and past members playing the music that my mom & dad grew up with. I think that any generation of kids will 'buy into ' this music if they are exposed to it. Most in the Western World have "rock and pop" in a tuneless and unintelligent way, thrown at them day on night. A few weeks of absorbing this music and they will realise what they have been missing.

A spectacular arrangement! So glad there are folks (Mr. J) that are teaching that great music. Further, these young musicians are here and ready to perform is such a wonderful and moving way. Keep up the great work at the school!!!!! I also searched here on the tube and found Duke's first two recordings of Mood Indigo. Search for ELLINGTON MOOD INDIGO. There are two of note: one on PARLOPHONE label (the very first recording of Mood Indigo) and then one on RCA, which I have heard in the past. The latter I believe is his second recording of the song.

John Menuis No, recruitment of the SAJB is limited to residents of the Sant Anrdreu district, a residential suburb of Barcelona with a population of 52000. So the selection is limited to a pool of a few hundred kids at most, assuming that not many kids are interested in studying music and unfortunately even less are interested in jazz. This makes what Joan Chamorro has achieved all the more remarkable.
