    Really surprised the rally version of the RAV4 still used the factory engine and transmission. Nice to know your street car has a drivetrain capable of taking a beating.

    +enigmaPL I was surprised as well, but I suspect Toyota has a few spares lined up for the next stage in case anything goes wrong.

    +enigmaPL I read up on it before, and I believe it was the 2wd class, unless there's a team of them for multiple classes, and not the full AWD class. At least for that one, I could see Toyota trying to stay "stock" for the sake of marketing and keeping costs down, especially if they already have a good engine. Sure beats the 125 Hp my 2000 Rav4's I4 makes, so it's already pretty good!

    +enigmaPL It's supposedly runnning in 2WD class. If we are talking Rally America's national championship, that means you can do basically whatever you like to the engine, but you can only drive two wheels.

    +Peter Novotny He doesn't do things like this often, and when he does, it's still entertaining. He probably talked about the car for a total of about 40 seconds. Why you even feel the need to point out that ''It's a commercial'' when anyone over the age of 15 can realize that is totally beyond me. Toyota payed Jay to film this. Unsubscribe.

    that was an awesome video Jay Leno I was very surprised when I heard about basically the Toyota rav4 rally in addition basically is all stock, basically the stock Toyota rav4 all you need what are a few things taken out and a few things added to but for the most part you really don't have to do a lot to make a rally car and to be cheaper behind someone could actually just put better tires and rims on for traction and stuff but different terrain and go rallying, but I think this was a great video I like that a lot!!......

    +Terry Dolan it actually is very cheap. you should look into rallycross/rallysport in your local area. there are classes for your bone stock 1994 Corolla (or whatever you drive) that you will have an absolute blast in. the beginner classes don't even require a roll cage, just long pants, shoes, and a helmet!

  • @tdolan500

    @tdolan500

    +alexrex20 Absolute bullshit. I build, prepare and run rally cars in Ireland. A entry level fiesta R2 will run you at least 30k and you will need at least another 30-40k to run it for a year. Want to play with the big guys? That will be 450k plus 10k a day to run the thing.

    +Calisweetheart21 Okay, but you don't need to get a Rav4... You could technically go rallying with a $1000 E30... It can be VERY cheap in comparison to other forms of auto racing. When you're talking side by sides, and ATV's, and go karts, I'd hope they'd be cheaper since you're getting a lot LESS of a product. Rally can be very cheap to be competitive. Not on world stages, but in local, and state wide events.

    +Calisweetheart21 We mustn't forget that was Jay Leno's view of "cheap". If you could afford to rally in a Bentley, yes, I suppose a RAV4 rally would seem pretty economical. But there are all kinds of cheap auto sports, auto cross, rally, even some drag cars aren't too spendy. Just find some like minded friends and have a good time. Mud anyone?

    Notice there's a piece of window missing for the front doors. Without that roof scoop dirt would come in through those. It works by funneling that air inside to make the pressure greater inside than out, pushing the air and dust out.

    Nope, he doesn't. Bur if nobody were to speak up and everybody just kept saying "oh what a wonderful advertisement feature", he will obviously just keep doing those just to make a shitload of cash. I want Jay's channel to be a pure, interesting garage show about Jay's cars and other INTERESTING stuff. If you want ads, I'm sure Toyota has an official channel. Meanwhile, I will be using my right to speak my opinion, thank you.

    If the channel turns to crap, there is no audience to advertise to. This is how the Internet works

    +Tim Speciale Exactly right. Are you arguing with yourself here? There is no faster way to turn to crap than to just post sponsored content all the time. Look at Autocar. When Sutcliffe ran the show, they posted vids that got anything from 200.000 to 7.000.000 views. Now they are just posting advertisement bullshit, and none of it is getting much more than 10.000 views. It's pitiful, and the Autocar channel will simply die. I don't want that to happen to Jay's Garage as well.

    +The Swede Rally in europe is the king! Lancia, audi, alfa romeo, peugeot the list goes on. I think american rallies have better trails in terms off off-road but in terms of cars/difficulty of courses, european rallies are the hands down winner.

    Maybe at cars for rally. but not at rally as a sport, thinking of it. Not even king at cars, Ford Opel so many more. Not many Japanese in the old days of rally, well not even in the new days

    When Kristaps mentioned the new vehicle design it peaked my interest to work with the team. Drive eO brings the future into the present with the most capable vehicle ever to grace Pikes Peak that has the opportunity to win overall. I have full confidence in the team that we will succeed. If the numbers that are on paper equate to real world numbers, this vehicle - in ideal conditions - should be capable of a race time below nine minutes." The eO PP03 is currently being assembled in the workshop in Ogresgala Pagasts, near Latvia's capital city Riga, and is expected to undergo first testing in May. Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest motor racing event in the United States of America. The race is run on a twenty-kilometre (12.42 mile) course with 156 turns that begins at 2,862 metre (9,390 feet) elevation and finishes at the 4,301 metre (14,100 feet) summit of the Pikes Peak mountain in Colorado Springs, USA. About Drive eO Drive eO provides bespoke electric and hybrid solutions for high performance low carbon vehicles - complete prototype vehicle development, electric drive train integration, high power electric motor controllers and custom lightweight battery packs. The company has produced several technology demonstrators, including the first electric drive Dakar rally car and a string of electric supercars for the Pikes Peak hill climb. About Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) Founded by Spencer Penrose in 1916, the PPIHC is the second oldest motor race in the Western Hemisphere and is one of the few races in the world that encompasses nearly all forms of motorsports in a one day event. Every year vehicles ranging from motorcycles, ATVs, sidecars, Big Rigs and 1500 hp purpose built Pikes Peak racers take on America's Mountain on the last Sunday of June.

    TBH, how close to stock depends very much on the class, some are about as close as a NASCAR car is and cost millions, but at least they have these more accessible classes
