Rebuilding a 2015 Toyota RAV4 that was peeled opened in an accident

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A new build starts today. Something peeled open this Toyota RAV4 so it is time to patch it back up. Clean freaks be warned, the inside isn't pretty but there is a rumor I might give into the dark side and do a little cleaning. Low miles and an easy fix, should make for a quick sale but there are some complications as we will find once we get started.

I was using your favorite tool before you were born. In 66 I T-boned a car with my 59 Impala bubble top. A few weeks later I saw another 59 that had been T-boned. So with the X frame, the body of the T-boned 59 was toast but the front clip and frame were fine. My front clip and frame were also toast. I picked the T-boned car up on auction for a few hundred dollars. I had to use your favorite tool to get at the front clip bolts. But at 16, I put two totaled cars together to make one for a net cost of $75 after selling what was salvageable from the parts car (engine/trans, glass and a door and trunk.

Scott I think what I enjoy best about you doing this work is you make it look so easy. And I know for you since you do it all the time it is easy. You understand the process and you understand what you need to do to get to the results you're looking for. But to people like me who don't do this for a living , it kind of looks like magic. You take something that was destroyed and written off, and turn it back into a functional machine that anybody would be happy to use because you put your fingers all over it made it good again!

Watching you unroll the rear quarter reminded me of my first new car. I had a 1976 Toyota Celica. Made the first payment on Wednesday, ran into a gal on a bridge on Friday. I broke her tail light on her 68 Buick Skylark. I was missing an entire right front fender. I couldn't find it anywhere. Went to my next appointment, and as I was coming back to the car I saw a little tiny bit of white (it had a reflective white stripe on blue) about a quarter way up the passenger door. Yup, I had rolled up the entire fender and stuffed it under the passenger door.

The scrap yard could put slip on extension lifts on the forks as to not damage the underside of the vehicle when loading it on your trailer , whether it be a parts car or rebuilder! Amazing and baffling how people get in situations that destroy there vehicles , even if it’s a accident, today’s cars are not that hard to drive ! Great skill and work ethic , mr spotty gives enough support and direction to see the project threw . Enjoy and be inspired by your video!

My first visit. Tyre depth 3/32 ! Over the pond we've measured tyre depth in metric for ever! At 8.05 when you pulled with the slide hammer l know l would have cut through at the fuel flap , drilled all the spots out ,carefully removed that section and "given it a go !" If someone says to me that won't repair that's a red rag to a bull ! 😂😂 Air chisels have been banned in body shops over here for 40 years +. I see many videos of so called body specialists but l can see you know what you're doing . A very pleasant change . Thanks . Going to have a gaze at the Corvette. Cheers!

A bit different than the 2007 I have. The left rear arch midway up the door to halfway across the wheel well has rust that I want to repair, but would have to buy the entire rear quarter just to get the 18" of arch needed. Maybe I will stitch weld in a patch instead and beat it to shape. Mine doesn't have any flares or other plastic parts to remove so looks quite a bit different.

Cutting out the quarter glass could be much easier using some long spatulas for autoglass and less chance of the air knife popping out and ruin the parts that dont need repair or even worse cut into the molding on the glass. Dont get me wrong air knife is great but i rather use them to save windshields. Man i do miss that part of saving glass for bodyshops its so satisfying.

Hey Scoot, gonna watch this later, but I just saw Eric the car guy was looking for some paint and body work on a MK kit car. I'm all in for collabs and such. Might get you some of those subscribers so you can buy more tires for the afternoon crew to flip.

Nice to see a craftsman working. Do you see a lot difference between the car company's and the build quality. Toyota versus other brands.

Kind of odd that was deemed a loss. Guess there is not a lot of value in 2015 Rav 4? That's a long way to pick one up. Looking good buddy.

Gummy worms are the worst! I hate it when I get a car that the parents let the kids have gummy worms or any gummy crap. All mashed into the seat tracks, seat belt mechanisms, UGH! I also wanted to let you know that I did a bunch of mods on my trailer based on what you did with your PJ. I was able to run the battery charging cables on the last auction car I picked up and it was wonderful to fire it right up when I got home instead of having to jump it or put it on a charger for a couple hours. Still have to wire up my LED deck floods and an LED light inside the tool box. Maybe today if it's not freezing out.

Great job as always, how long are you waiting to get a rebuilt title sent to you from IL? I sent my paperwork to the state but its looks like it will be 2-3months before the state issues a rebuilt title.

I once pulled in a customer vehicle that had many fast food containers and uneaten food scattered about the interior. The allergic reaction I got 'bout damn near killed me'! Might want to invest in a hazmat suit! Hahaha!

Finally a professional. BTW where can I buy the shirt you're wearing? The first time I worked on a RAV4 it was also a 1/4 and I wasn't busy so I went ahead and cut it out but when the new one came in I saw that toyota's 1/4 was too short. Or I like to cut too much. Either way I had to piece it back in. What a joke that was.
