2015 Midsize Sedan Comparison - Kelley Blue Book

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

For our most recent midsize sedan comparison test we rounded up a group of six strategically selected entries and headed out on a 400-mile loop. As is our way, we didn't pick a winner here. The comfortable and famously reliable Toyota Camry is absolutely the best choice for some buyers, while the sporty and stylish Mazda6 is the clear choice for others. Our goal is to help you pick your own winner.
For the complete story, please visit:

*Our comparison tests are different from most in that we keep the focus on comparison, not competition. We don't pick winners and losers because the right choice for one buyer is the wrong choice for another. Our goal here is not to tell you which car to buy, but to make it easier for you to decide which is best for you.

I've seen Sonatas (and Optimas which are basically the same car) with 50k miles go for $10k in my area (NY). That's a pretty insane deal. Most come with Android Auto/Apple car play and a great cars overall. I've owned a 2016 model for 3 years now and I have no complaints for the price I paid ($15k in 2018)

I wish you guys would rate them more by best and worst. It seems to corporate friendly to just mention each one and then pretty much say they are all good. When I see the words, "comparison test" I always think I am going to get direct of opinions of overall best and worst. This is what I am looking for - direct comparisons, not overviews

Honestly i think the Mazda 6 and the Honda Accord topped it all. There both very good/reliable Midsize cars and also look very good. But i think the 3rd and 4th place winners belong to the Practical/Roomy Sonata and Loved Camry.....with that said i think your best choice would be definitely the Honda Accord or Mazda 6. Both are excellent cars.

Camry XSE all the way. Remember people, you're buying a MIDSIZE SEDAN, not a track monster. What are the most important things to look for in a midsize sedan? Reliability, comfort, initial price, re-sale value, fuel economy, and finally driving dynamics. I think the case can be made that the Mazda 6 is a more fun car to drive than the Toyota Camry XSE. However, what kind of reliability do you get from Mazda? The comfort issues and road noise were too much for me to seriously consider a Mazda 6. However, the exterior styling of the Mazda 6 is my favorite out of any in this segment. I test drove five different midsize sedans and this is how I'd rank them: 1. Toyota Camry - XSE 2. Hyundai Sonata 3. Mazda 6 4. Honda Accord 5. Subaru Legacy Personally I don't think you can go wrong with any of these five cars; you just have to figure out what you want in a car. That being said, Toyota/Lexus has never failed me and I've owned and driven quite a few of them. Therefore after driving these cars, I ended up with an I4 Toyota Camry XSE and I think it's the perfect blend of everything I mentioned above.

I am an owner of a 2015 Mazda 3 2.5L hatchback and a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi. Although I have never driven any of the sedans I have seen them all in person at the auto show and at dealers. Having a mazda 3 I am very satisfied with the car and Mazda in general. The engine which is shared with the mazda 6 is very effortless and gets great fuel economy. The Mazda 6 is the most comfortable to sit in out of the other midsize sedan. The material quality are the best and I am very confident about its reliability. It is the only midsize sedan Made in Japan currently with the Kizashi now discontinued in north america. In Canada the Mazda 6 is very expensive and a fully loaded one would get close to 40k Canadian which you could get the camry with a v6 but I still think its totally worth it. The Hyundai sonata's interior is very underwhelming. The material quality on lower trims is poor with a lot of hard plastics on the door panels and dash. It is the worst performing in the iihs' small overlap crash test compared to its competitors and acceleration is slow even with the turbo model which still takes 8 seconds to 60mph definitely not a v6 alternative. I definitely would not recommend the Hyundai sonata to anyone. The Honda Accord is very roomy inside but it has a very boring interior. It is definitely showing its age compared to the other new or refreshed competitors. We had owned Honda's before including the 2003 civic and 2008 CRV we don't have any problems with it but we got rid of it because we are not really satisfied with how the car feels in general and we got tired of it really fast even though the car can last very long. This is definitely true for car enthusiast who want a car that delivers more than just reliability.

The Camry is the best looking car in the comparison by far. Every other car seems to be trying to do the same thing with their front ends (big square grill) and theyre failing miserably. I also love how KBB complains about road noise in the camry and not the accord. My uncle owns a 2014 CRV and his brother in law owns an accord 2016. The road noise is almost ridiculous and the noise of the plastic materials inside only confuse me even more. The Camry is definitely a softer ride with better sound isolation, no doubt in my mind. Plus no cvt. And one thing I like personally is the second screen between the guages of the camry which displays all the info of the car. The accord doesnt offer that. Camry>

The Mazda looks so good. The other midsize sedans cannot compete at all in both exterior AND interior styling. I bet if you showed the car to someone not knowledgeable, they would guess that it's a car that costs $40000, not your run of the mill $20k midsize sedan. Mazda reliability and consequently resale values have also always been excellent. It's good to support the underdog car company, instead of the big 4 car manufacturers :)

Man, I really love the Mazda6. The dealer I work at, I get to drive one everyday almost. But reliability concerns are too much for me to buy one. Anything from the i-Eloop system, to the main electrical systems, to the mechanical parts like the engine and transmission. They are all failing before 100,000 miles and it makes me incredibly sad because these cars are a blast to drive and look awesome. Hopefully Mazda fixes these reliability issues!!

christian Chichester Initially, no. You'll have a great experience until around 60,000 miles. If you get the 2.5, it'll get louder and harder to start as the miles get on. Warranty will cover all the things that go wrong but it only lasts a few years. If you want a compact car that'll last, buy a civic or Corolla. I want to say the VW golf too but no one knows how this new generation will last. I own a 2015 and have only 10k. time will tell I guess. as far as the Mazda goes, don't buy one if you plan to keep it 5+ years.

christian Chichester Yeah it has. It's because it's fun to drive, has great value, great features, and the 2.0L gets good fuel economy. But its skyactiv technology is a letdown in terms of reliability. Talk to any Mazda technician and they will agree that Mazda will receive a harsh wake up call when these new cars become a few years old. And anything pre-skyactiv(2012 and older) is absolutely bulletproof with Mazda, of course, excluding the 2.3 turbo engine. Other new and old Japanese cars don't suffer from these issues.

I would love the chance to drive all these side by side with the same displacement engines. I did manage to get a loaded $32K Sonata out a few weeks back and all I felt was CHEAP everything and I wasn't pleased at all with quiet level. My 05 Impala LS sport was as quiet and road smoother. This is why I am having trouble buying a new car.

gene978 You know what's funny, recently I watched an old Motorweek review on some "regular" cars and the sound level was certainly quieter that some of the family sedan fr sale today. It seems at some point along the way, manufacturers started to add less insulation material and are now starting to add it back to justify the price they are asking for cars these days. I had a 2012 Optima Hybrid and while loaded with options, it was not as quiet as the BMW I traded for it. I then traded that for a 2014 Optima Hybrid and while quieter, it's still could be better. The 2016 Sorento interior is quiet like the Germans and something I can live with, if the 2016 Optima turns out to be the same, it's on my list when this lease is up.

one thing I do not get is why you need these large capacity engines when you have such low speed limits. European have lower capacity engine with slight lower bhp but generally quicker 0-62 speeds and better mileage also European engines the to be more technologically advanced and have longer oil change periods .they are using 14.with 185 bhp 1.5 with 195bhp 1.6 with 205 bhp and low down and medium good torq levels for pulling power and yet you are still using 2.4 or 2.5 or v6 engines to achieve the same why ?

I own a 2003 Accord Sedan. Highly reliable, suspension is in between the Camry and Mazda; so you can have a bit of fun with it if you decide to put your foot down in it. Road noise. Oh god, the road noise in it is immense on highway. I eventually got to the point where I drive around with the windows down on dry days because the road noise is not very different if you had them rolled up. I recently test drove a 2014 Accord fully loaded, and it isn't much different from the 2003 in terms of road noise (a bit quieter than the 03 one), handling and economic performance. If I had to, I would buy a new Accord. But, I still have about half a million more miles to go before I get a new car, so I'll just hope that by then cars have a quieter cabin and more solid transmissions; that's probably the most enjoyable aspect of the 2003 Accord: a solid transmission that doesn't guess which gear it should shift to.

Nan Xing For the auto V6's, 21/34 on the Sedan, 21/32 on the Coupe. The two cars have different aero profiles hence the difference. The highway mileage, however, is known to be understated as the VCM will produce incredible highway mpg figures if you keep it at steady speed below 65.
