2015 Mazda3 Rear Brakes

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

2015 Mazda3 Rear Brakes and a quick look at the brakes from a few years ago...
Detailed brake pad and rotor replacement on a 2015 Mazda3 5spd.
I had replaced the front brakes and rotors a few thousand miles ago, and a few years prior, I had also replaced the rear pads and rotors. What makes this brake job unique is the vehicle's exposure to winter road salt. The salt belt requires a completely different approach, as opposed to a basic "Slap-N-Go" that you can get away with in non coastal areas and areas that seldom ever see snow.
This video is a bit long, and probably could have been chopped some more, but it is intended for the novice mechanic or DIYer. I have experimented with a few different NON PETROLEUM brake specific lubricants over the years and have found that antiseize works best on the non moving parts, brake grease on the pad ears and abutment clip, and silicone lubricants for the slide pins. Everything possible to prevent water intrusion and corrosion MUST be taken to the extreme! SMOOTH operation and free movement is critical for long life and dependable operation.

I do most, if not all repairs, with tools that I carry around in my overloaded 1997 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. I perform "On-Site" braking and suspension repairs, amongst other diagnostics and services. My tools consist mostly of Craftsman, a few Stanley, Snap-On, Husky, Pittsburgh, and S&K tools. Scan tools include hand held Actrons, DVOMs, and test lights. I also currently use a Zurich ZR Pro, for advanced and bidirectional diagnostics as well as a Snap-On Verus Pro, for more detailed diagnostics. I'm always expanding my collection, based on need and convenience.

Great to see a video from you. Those hub cleaning discs are expensive. I think it's cheaper just to buy another kit.

I hope you, the misses and your family are well. I don't see you about much these days so it's good to see you upload a video. Take care and stay safe. Back brakes on my 61 plate (2011) saab 9-3 wagon need done pretty much every year. Only car I've had that's had that problem!

Everyone is well, Thank You. Up here...If it contains iron, it turns to swollen brown swiss cheese. Brakes, especially, need extreme attention to detail, or they'll lock up from rust.

When turning in the caliper piston. Is it necessary to have the slots go up and down and side to side if the pad doesn't have the little studs to fit the piston?

Yes. When you are done, apply the foot brake pedal until firm,, THEN test the parking brake. (Using the parking brake first MAY rotate the piston outward) It is also recommended to purchase brake pads that DO have those rotation preventing buttons. (incorrectly clocked pistons will not actuate and adjust properly)

Good luck finding hub cleaning tools and discs. Every disc I buy ends up being $4-6 each. Unless you buy something like a 200 piece kit, and even then, they don't come down much in price. Brands don't even matter because they are all rebranded 3M Roloc.

For my first-time brake job, I used Powerstop brakes from Rockauto on my 2018 Rav4. No problems. LOL, I see other KZread mechanics watch Ray and Big O also.

I'm sure we all look to see what the other is doing... plus, we learn new tricks! I've installed a few Power Stop kits. They're great for an every day driver, but don't let the sit for long in a rust prone area.
