Today we are showing you how to install Roush's Phase 1 Supercharger kit on our S550 GT. One of the biggest requests to date has been how to install a supercharger on a Mustang, since the day Bill got his new 2015 he has been talking about putting one on, and has chosen the ROUSH charger system to boost his GT up to around 627 horsepower.
Installation is a little complicated and very time-consuming. Watch as we take you step by step how to install the Roush Supercharger on your 2015, 2016 or 2017 5.0L Mustang.

I helped a buddy with his supercharger install on his 2015 GT, he is a very organized person so he had plastic containers labeled where each set of screws came from... He ran out so he had to throw out some of his leftovers in the fridge 😂😂😂

I love everything except the roush tune. It pretty much sucks. If you get on it, it sets off the max torque limiter and puts the car in limp mode so its barley drivable until you shut it down a restart it. So you have to get a different tune. I barley went 60 mph and less than 5000 rpm when this happened.

Is your car a manual? sounds like the clutch protection mode might be kicking in although that should go off once you shift gears. The early tune had an issue with limp mode but that was when the kit was new and was fixed quickly by Roush.

  • @MrFatty239

It is a manual. Doesn't go off when switching gears. its giving me code P061B. got my tune in march...is that the early tune? Another problem is I cant get a hold of Roush, by phone, email, live chat, to ask them! Any help Bill is appreciated!

Thanks +CJ Pony Parts for providing a video with such good quality, clarity, various camera angles and a chill yet badass background music hahaha. Your Mustang is sick and congratulations on the new acquirement. Hopefully soon enough I'll have the money to buy my own stang, hopefully my so dreamed 2013 Boss 302 and I'll begin installing my own mods ( not that many though).

Bill Tumas I agree. They are the most thorough and practical I've seen, done by someone who is clearly an experienced and talented tech, as opposed to some goofball Hollywood type (AmercianMuscle). My only critique, (most people won't care, but sound for film is something I studied) is the music always playing in the background. It's a bit distracting and can be tiresome. Great job, though! I still don't know if I'll try this job myself on my new GT, though!! I'm worried I'll hurt her, and I really just think a pro will do a better, cleaner job.

Since this is a repost I guess I'll repost my comment from the original, the best I can remember. Firstly glad to see you caught the blower belt on the wrong side of the upper idler pulley....LOL. Also it must be major surgery to replace the blower belt when required since it looks like the bracket would need to be removed. Secondly I don't like the Roush requirement for the ECU to be sent to them for re-flash. The first reason is the stock tune is now unavailable to the end user which may cause some complications for returning the car to stock or purchasing a handheld tuner. I'm not sure, but I think a handheld needs to "marry" with the car using the stock Ford strategy. Second reason is if the end user wants to change gear ratios or tire sizes not having a handheld for user adjustable configurations makes the changes not very practical in the sense of speedometer calibration etc. The Ford Racing Whipple kit and others I believe provide for a handheld for the re-flash providing the end user the optimum in customization options for future upgrades. A great kit though and seems like a weekend with pizza and beer would be a reasonable estimate for installation. Also not sure, but it seems like Roush is still tuning "rich", for safety, since it appears a lot of black smoke is coming out the tail pipes. Thanks for the great video install and your '15 Mustang is making my '13 look bad...LOL...LOL

Will it cause premature wear and tear just driving it normally? Does anything else need to be upgraded or is it just this kit and done? What a great mod. Instant beast. Props on your skills. +2CREATthief also at 59:58 when he filled the fluid, he used the green antifreeze. But after he finished at 1:00:30 it had the orange fluid in it. But I love watching these videos. They are great for a diy'er.

+messer23421 I filled it with green universal antifreeze, once it got up to temperature the original pink left in the engine started circulating. That is why the color changed, no trickery there.

Oh, gotcha. Thanks for the info. I always was told it was bad to mix the antifreeze like that. I also know for a while that the orange stuff really did a number on engines. Is that not the case anymore?

Another question when you have the time, how much power can the stock coyote engine hold without having to forge the pistons and rods? I saw a video of some guys that put a whipple supercharger which they claim gave them over 750 hp at the wheels, but I would think that would destroy a stock motor?

Bill! Nice work! Question, I'm looking to get a 2017 gt and would like to get this supercharger. My question is, can the stock internals support this hp? Do I need any supporting mods? I'm coming from a 2011 sti and these engines easily blow ring lands. What's the most hp the coyote can handle before you have to start rebuilding? Thanks. This gt will be my dd and I'd like to add a decent amount of Hp while maintaining reliability.

The stock 15+ motors can handle this with no problems, I have over 20,000 miles on my supercharger now with no issues.

Hey Bill. Just got done about 2 hours ago with my install. Thanks so much for the video. Say what you want but... That was a huge pain in the ass!! Who designed those hose clamps? This video was really helpful to use along with the instructions. I just hope everything works!

I have a 2017 mustang GT 6 speed automatic. Do you have to build the auto tranny to match the power output? How much power is the auto tranny rated to withstand? 600whp is a lot. Hate to blow my trans. Also if the transmission is capable of hold 600 hp is this a reliable build? Can I still use my car daily maybe beat on it once in awhile? Will it hold up

Jacob Johnson it is a 6R80 transmission meaning 6 speed rear wheel drive and 800 ftlbs of torque that it is rated for, they can hold more than that though. So you’ll be fine.

Thanks for reposting this. Can't wait to see the dino test. I'm looking for a supercharger for my 73 Mach 1 351C. I'm wanting to run an EZ EFI 2.0\ something like it, but can handle a supercharger. You have a system for 289\302, but not a 351C. I'm in the process of building my engine to a 408 stroker with 9:1 dish pistons. Any recommendations supercharge EFI system.
