2014 Kawasaki KLR650 Tusk Crash Bar Review!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

First thoughts on my Tusk Crash Bars on my KLR 650. I have had no issues with them to date (2 years later). I have dropped it a hand full of times and they worked awesome! I have heard of vibration issues but have NOT had any myself.

After beating the hell out of the Happy Trails crash bars that came on my 09 KLR, I removed them and replaced with a 10 Gal IMS tank and no bars.. Been riding it that way for years and wouldn't go back.. bike is noticeably lighter with 5-6 gallons of gas (weight is lower and the plastic tank is much lighter than crash bars and metal tank), and it feels more planted on the freeway and with high winds if filled with all 10 gallons. It has survived many off road drops, as well as low and high side crashes on pavement, and I never have to carry extra fuel bottles for longer trips. It does show a few light & medium depth scratches from drops, but so do the aluminum bars on the hand guards after many, many drops in 40+ thousand miles of mixed use. The plastic tank can't be touched up with paint like crash bars, but on the up side, it doesn't need it! (won't rust, and the color stays the same when scratched). The IMS tank includes a metal support under the radiator and between the frame and the tank, so that the radiator is well protected.

my 09 came with those. They work great. I've dropped my klr twice riding in trails and not a single scratch.

Originally wanted the sw-motech but was incompatible with my non-oem skid plate. Bummer. But in sure the tusks will work fine. Thanks for the vid!

I got the Dirtracks... they're nice. Haven't laid over yet, but they seem stout and only took like 5 minutes to install.

Whoever decided those 4 little Allen heads was a good idea should be slapped. I stripped the crap out of them on install. I hope these bars never need to come off. That said, I do like them and now the bike feels bomb proof!

I just bought the these tusk bars for my 09'. The nerf crash bars I got with the bike are crap and the supports that go through the fairing chew up everything close. I'm the third owner and didn't think about not having the stock engine mount. Think I have to buy new mounts from kawi. these seem to be a way better price compared to the nerf bars and a better design IMO.

Im looking for a fine crash bar to my KLR, I am 6" height and I wonder if this Tusk will touch my legs while I´m riding. Do you find them confortable?

Have you had any vibration issues with the Tusk crash bars? I've seen some posts about excessive vibration at certain RPMs. I have a Happy Trails skidplate (Non-SW Motech version), so the Tusk crash bars seem to be the front runner given my options. Thanks for the video.

Did you ever get any vibration out of your crash bars? I’ve read a few instances of that happening.

Schmidt McGready I don't believe so no. I think it just said to refer to the manual for that. I just went by feel though, haven't had any issues so far.

Swanky Cat Productions awesome. I'm close to purchasing. another question, how does the bike feel going 70-85 mph on the highway? any difference? I know KLR vibrates a lot but what about with the crash bars on ?

I've heard people have vibration issues after installing these and other crash bars but honestly I did not notice anything different at all after installing them at any speed. Hope this helps!

I wonder if those bars would fit both a gen 1 and gen 2. my 04 has 67 k on it , and I would like some bars, but who knows how much longer it will last. be nice if I could switch my farkles to a new klr.

I suppose the frames and tank really didn't change that much, idk if I'd bet $170 on it but they might? That's a lot of miles! That's pretty cool!

I wanted to get it to 100 k, but that doesn't seem practical now. I don't like to get more than 200 miles away at a time anymore. Time for a new one.

I wondered when someone would mention that ha ha. I noticed it after I got it home, not sure why but the bracket on the exhaust won't line up with that bracket on the frame. The aftermarket pipe must have a slightly different bend then stock I guess.
