I have the BMW GTL 1600 now, have ridden it since 2012. I've owned many Harleys since the '70's. I admit I will always like 'em for what they are and what they ain't. I run solo, no allegiance to anyone or anything. But the Harley is, and will always be a part of me. I'm looking at the Milwaukee eight Ultra now, it isn't faster than my Beemer, but it make me feel a sort of bond I can't get from a metric. Like a wayward son coming back home.

I had a 2010 from new 96” Ultra Classic for nearly 12 yrs before being knocked off it. Did everything I needed except for high motorway speeds. Once my leg heals fully and can support a heavy bike again, I am looking at this last of the twin cam Limited or the first of the 107” M8’s. Not sure whether there has been a comparison video test for these two models. But definitely, don’t want to spend £28K on a motorcycle that would spend more time garaged than on the road. Winter weather, stone chips and salt does a nasty job on the coatings.

For years I've wanted to eliminate in my mind the classic motorcycle cultural differences between Harley riders and the rest of us. Honest gang. I've really tried. In the past, Harleys have been mechanical dinosaurs for so long that buying one for the riding enjoyment finished a far second place to simple tough guy ego stroking image. This Harley is a shining example of the mechanical, styling and functional genius that Harley is capable of producing. Liquid cooling, linked ABS and advanced electronics, comfort and functionality. This bike might even have some Goldwing riders looking. Hell. I might even take a look and I'm not a tough guy at all. I can't even poze well at it! This bike is brilliant and a refreshing leap forward for HD. I hope some of the engineering carries through on more models.

Nobody has more respect for men and women in uniform than myself. But I worked long hard hours for my money and l am not going pay for a name.I want quality I can see and feel for my money. That's why I own a 2012 goldwing my second one. Wish everybody would ride what they want to ride and respect everybody else's decision to do the same.

Linked ABS brake system, Stereo, Bluetooth, Cruise Control, Water Cooling, all of these are and have been available on Honda Goldwings for years? I am a Harley Owner, (96 Cube Soft-Tail Deluxe) and in the past owned a 1500 Goldwing. The difference in the two is Soul. The Harley had heaps, the Goldwing, while a great bike, had very little? While I have no doubt the latest Ulta is a great bike, I worry it is losing what defines Harley Davidson, Soul and Character?

DinhoPilot I ride this exact Harley in the same color. I have dropped it twice now. Both times in a parking lot. Once when doing a double Uturn in an MSF course and the 2nd time in a rest area. Easy enough to pick up with the right technique. It happens.

+Okie Rider I used to look at the Yamaha Star Stratoliner S as an inexpensive substitute for a real Harley-Davidson. But in the end the price difference was not all that great and I knew I would always want a Harley-Davidson. So I finally got my second Harley a 2015 FLHP Police. I am a very happy man.

It always amazes me how someone can say Harley has a comfortable ride when there is only 2.13 inches of travel in the rear shock.

+JefferyT Only one, the bottom tour bike has only 2.13 inches of travel in it's rear shock. My 2015 FLHP Police has an air adjustable rear shock and a 49 mm front fork. Now add a shock with a coil over spring between the frame and the solo saddle seat and you will find it is the most comfortable bike of all.

The Ultra Limited is almost 30k where as the Victory 23K. A regular Ultra would have been a better comparison against these other 2 bikes. As far as the Victory "flimsy switch" comment...when Harley starts offering an engine in their tour models that won't shake a 5 gallon bucket of paint and have cam shoe issues I might consider one amongst my options.

Only at idle they shake, once moving they are super smooth. The problem is the people that haven't ridden one only sees the bike when it is stopped and think the bike shakes all the time, that is definitely not the case. Also the bikes in the Ultra limited's class are the: Honda Goldwing and it starts out at $23,999 and goes up to over $32,000. Indian Roadmaster $26,999 (Same as the Ultra Limited) BMW K 1600 GTL Exclusive $29,995 (which is more of a sport touring bike) You have Victory which is a cheaper bike, but IMO there is a reason why. The fit in finish of the bike is a far cry from the bikes listed above. Don't believe me try comparing them all side by side and then tell me how Victory stacks up.

I don't care if they shake at idle or 50 thousand rpm. It's still a bad design they choose to ignore and just find 'new' ways to mask the problem rather than eliminate it with design changes. I've ridden many Harley's and even though it may feel smoothed out, my hands quickly go numb. The Goldwing is a nice machine but not for me. It has some good points and some not so good points in terms of it's riding characteristics. I don't know much about BMW except I would categorize it very similar to a Goldwing. Harley does have probably top of the line fit and finish but I don't buy a bike to just look at it in the garage or in front of the bar or country club. Victory is a far superior machine down under the 'skin' compared to the Harley and the fit and finish is plenty good enough to not justify an extra 10k for a bike that looks better but performs far less.

If harley's are such shitty unreliable bikes then why are there so many still on the road. And this is coming from someone that pretty much likes and respect anything on two wheels. Plus fit and finish is important, if they don't even take the time to make sure they refine the little things what did they neglect with the big things. Hell Victory motorcycle controls look like they came off my daughters power wheel and when you sit on it it feels like an over size scooter. By the way the Harley is not 10K more, the Goldwing and BMW is but not the harley.

"If harley's are such shitty unreliable bikes then why are there so many still on the road."(?) Because the other half of them actually made it all the way home. There are a lot of Harley's because one thing Harley is REALLY good at is marketing. Selling ice cubes to Eskimo's comes to mind or pig %#$@ to a hog farmer for fertilizer comes to mind . I'll respect anyone's choice to purchase and own a Harley (or whatever) because it's not my choice to make or my money paying for it. Unfortunately I also see a lot of Harley riders who preach "if it ain't a Harley it ain't worth riding" and that's a big turn off to me. I get a kick out of people who are so quick to bash another brand when they probably have never ridden one or know anything about them. I have been a mechanic for many years and I also have some experience with design and fabrication so when I consider one machine against another I actually consider what's down under the "Foo Foo", not just what you see on the surface. And I did ride and Ultra Limited this summer that actually was 10K more than the Victory Cross Country Tour I bought this last summer and while the Harley was nice, "Foo Foo", it wasn't 10K nice.

  • @beags1979

    @beags1979

And I respect your opinion because I am the same way when it comes to people bashing other motorcycles they have no clue about. This includes harley guys bash other bikes. Like I said I respect all motorcycles. I do own a 2014 Street Glide Special and I love it. Would I own a different brand bike in a heartbeat. With that like I said before I'm huge into Fit N Finish and some really lack in that department, I've owned 2 harley's and they have never let me down. But I've also owned Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki and other then the Kawasaki getting an oil leak they never did either. So in todays day in age all brands are pretty damn reliable, if a bike can hit 100k+ miles I would really consider that reliable. Hell Harley produces over 300k bikes a year, they are bound to have some with issues.

Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager $17,399 Victory Cross Country Tour $19,399 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited $26,999 so, $17K, 19K, 27K, that is 10K difference between Kawasaki and HD. With the 27K of the HD I would go with the BMW K1600GTL Exclusive $29,995 or $30K (or the BMW K1600GTL for $23,995 say $24K. Kawasaki will do the job (60% of HD cost) and BMW will do the job with luxury. Nobody with common sense will pay the $27K for the HD. By the way, where is Yamaha or Star? Honda Goldwing seams to be a standard in touring also.

Apparently you haven't priced a Goldwing they start at 23K and run to 30K with ease. Plus go look at a harley and then look at the rest, sorry to break it to you but chrome, premium grade wheels, there stereo system and high end paint isn't cheap. And if you haven't ridden or look closely at all the mentioned bikes, how can you say the harley isn't worth what they are asking. I have owned Japanese and now I have owned a few Harley's. I can tell from experience the Japanese and Victory bikes look extremely cheap to me and I'm not saying this because I hate all other bikes now because I bought a harley. I love all bike as in I'm an actual motorcycle enthusiast and it is just hard to beat Harley's fit and finish. So far from what I've seen BMW and maybe Indian are the only ones that are up there with Harley, which they are expensive also. So with that people for some reason like to bash Harley and say they are to expensive, but if you breakdown what you are getting with them there is a reason why.

Don't like your definition of touring. You are only defining "Adventure Touring". You should learn about a famous name in the Long Distance community that took an FJR all the way to Alaska (that's a dirt road if I'm not mistaken). Others have made it up there in non-adventure bikes too.

No, the entire HD motorcycle is not made in America, no it is not the best motorcycle made, no it is not the best HP or torque producer. And no, I bet you would never see Elvis, Micky Mantle, or Ted Williams on a Beemer or Goldwing. The ONLY motorcycle the srceams out USA, RED, WHITE, AND BLUE is........... That's right Harley Davidson. Of course you would not understand this if you have not spent over 30 years serving this country.
