Buick has trademarked Grand National and GNX! Rumor is they will be getting rear drive platforms as well. Regal GS is nice and is definitely competitive within its segment.

What the hell?! It's the Opel Insignia OPC and in US it's just having a 2.0 liter turbo? It looks like the OPC but we definitely have the better engine. 2.8 liter V6 with 325hp.

Even though it's rated at only 259 horsepower, it probably makes the same power as last year. Even so, there's plenty of power waiting to be unleashed in that engine without breaking the bank. Swapping on a ZFR turbo is probably the most effective mod since the stock turbo is small and runs out of steam early. A Trifecta tune is also very effective and combining just those 2 mods alone will make it a totally different car.

I want to like the Cadillac ATS more simply because it rides on a better platform (RWD-based vs. FWD-based), MUCH lighter, very sharp looking and more powerful engine even with the same 2.0T config. However, the ATS has really bad packaging (very little knee room in the rear seats) and considerably more expensive (same pricing as more premium marquees like BMW, Mercedes & Lexus). Because of that reason (and maybe partially the buggy CUE), the Regal GS seems like a better buy, especially in Canada thanks to AWD for the colder, snowy months.

Trades46 I've got a Regal T Premium I, with FWD. It's a solid car in the winter even with only FWD. The tires are massive (width-wise, not just height) which really helps I think.

V8? Better a V12. It will only increase mass and weight distribution. None of its direct and indirect rivals, and even in the segment, have more than 6 cylinders. It is segment D/medium size. In Europe its Opel Insignia OPC AWD twin has a V6 2.8 Turbo with 320 hp and 321 lb-ft, 6-speed manual (3,990 lb) or automatic (4,045 lb) transmission.

You said this is not European but an American version of speed. This car is an Opel Insignia. Designed in Germany for the European market first. In fact for the first model year all Buick did was minor cosmetic changes and shipped the rebadged Insignia over here from the factory in Rüsselsheim Germany. The newer model is now made in Canada but it uses virtually the same design and specs as the current Opel.

It's funny that he says "it's an american take on performance" when this car was designed in Europe though it may've been upgraded to be the equivalent of a SAAB 9-3. With the liquidation of SAAB it would've been great if Buick would step into SAAB's shoes with this to replace the 9-3 & the Lacrosse to replace the 9-5 since the Buicks looks much better than the Cadillacs.

  • @emjayay

    @emjayay

    10 жыл бұрын

Because GM has made cars called Vauxhall in the UK and Opel in Germany for almost a century, and cars called Buick in the United States. The Buick Regal is the name they already used for a midsized car, and they put a grille that recalls Buick traditions from the 1950's in place of the Insignia chrome bar grille.

I know it's a German car! Opel and Buick are very similar nowadays! I guess I'd like the idea of the Regal going to the Alpha platform. But if Pontiac comes back (which it will, GM was forced to shut it down by the gov. so they really want it back, once they are fully independent) the new G6 would be on Alpha and would take the role as a Sports+Luxury car. . . . Plus, I like the Regal the way it is (I happen to love the fact that it is a FWD-AWD sports car) The AWD is great for cornering!

I think it is a great idea that when you put it in GS mode it will use more RWD than FWD! Now with AWD there won't be as much torque steer (even though it wasn't even really there to begin with). But I think GM needs to add power to this car! A 2.5L Turbo I4 (VVT and iVLC) with 340HP and 365TQ or a 2.8L Turbo V6 (VVT, SIDI and AFM) with 360HP and 370TQ. A turbo 4 would have better city gas mileage (because the V6 would have AFM for the highway) but a turbo 6 would have a better engine note!

I was actually considering the GS as my next car keeping in mind of the GS heritage from the past and was excited thinking it would have a nice big V8 or a well boosted V6 to go along with those brembo brakes and was extremely disappointed to find a 2.0 4 Cyl. Where is the bad ass cars Buick use to make like the Grand National, GNX and such.. Everything about this interior of this car screams the same ole cheap ass plastic polished turd Buick feel..for over $30k There are tons of better cars in that price point to spend your money on. It's a shame the exterior is quite sexy and probably one of the prettier cars Buick has ever had.

The 2.0L(not a 2.4) in last year's car got 19/27 compared to 14/28 for the Insignia OPC. Even if the combined figure is just 2mpg higher, that extra 5mpg city wise is a big deal.

Car & Driver got a 2014 Malibu LTZ which has the same power rating to 60 mph in only 6.2 seconds. That test was done 900 feet above sea level too. I know the Malibu is about 75 pounds lighter than the FWD Regal GS, but we're talking more than a full second difference here. That is a huge difference. 7.35 in a FWD GS at sea level is terrible. I don't know why your times are always at least a full second slower than the magazines? That's at sea level too. I don't get it?

I have yet to understand how the Opel Insignia OPC, on which the Regal is based, manages some 325+hp from what should be a comparatively thirsty 2.8l v6, with European emissions and fuel regulations, but GM only manages to get 270hp from their 2.4l four pot. They both get the same equivalent mpg ratings, with the Opel being almost 300lbs heavier! Considering the woefully-tight rear seat, the evidence becomes clear; GM USA still hasn't fully learned their lesson! This beauty is only skin-deep.

  • @JohnInSale

Is that a rebadged version of the European Insignia. Looks nice, but the bad needs a re-design, looks bland. Hope you guys get the estate version too with AWD like we do, great car especially with the bi-turbo diesel and good value second hand. Just saw a lovely silver Elite model on Autotrader with only 10k miles for £12K and only a year old. All it needs is the off road body kit of the country version to look brand new !!!

This is American - sort of. This is based off of the Opel Insignia. In fact, when this car launched in the USA it was built on the same assembly line as the Opel in Germany. Only after the first year was this car built in the United States. The pickup is actually the strength of this car along with the gas mileage since the engine is so small. Compared to the Subaru Legacy H6 engine with 268 hp this is about the same speed with better gas mileage numbers.

Didn't you guys just label the MDX a slow, unsporty SUV? Wasn't it only about a second slower to 60 at mile high with all three of you aboard?

The car was founded in America. I think it should've stayed over seas and never came back in America. I don't want to buy a car that isn't American made anymore.

George Belev I just don't hope if GM ever brings back the older Cadillac name plates China doesn't make it before America does.

George Belev I mean I hope china doesn't touch any of the Cadillac older name plates. The Regal belongs to GM. It was created by GM and they should've designed it in the first place.

4:16 - Roman you're incorrect, it is very European because it's basically rebadged Opel.
