You saved me. I rented a trailer and forgot about the mirrors until the last minute. I only had the time to purchase oem tow mirrors (bummer) and install myself. Without your video I would have been in way over my head. I appreciate the help!

I do not feel like I represent any sort of mechanically inclined population, but I am capable of following clear instructions on a youtube video and asking a guy at AutoZone for the tools mentioned in the video! I have a 2017 Sierra 1500 SLT that I was trying to get towing mirrors installed on without losing my powerfolding function (I routinely have to park in a garage so this is a big deal to me). After paying my local GMC dealer $300 to install mirrors that they THEN afterwards told me couldn't retain the power folding function I screamed into a pillow and then searched google for answers. Phil knocks it out of the park with this video and I ordered a harness from him that did the trick GMC said they couldn't do on a 1500 model truck. I was so happy after getting these things in and working that I asked him where I could post some positive feedback. Well deserved - and thank you Phil!

Thank you for this feedback! I fought that panel the first time for over an hour trying to get it back in place. So I sought after a better way :)

Thanks Phil for the video you made. It made the conversion vey easy. And a little advise for anyone that does the conversion and uses Phils wiring harness.....make sure you plug ALL the plugs back in before you put the door panels back on LOL. Yep i forgot to plug the passenger side window motor plug back in. I didn't have to take the entire door panel off< but still a pain. Totally my fault though.

Great video. Purchased my trail ridge mirrors from 1A Auto. Just put them on and love them.

This video was perfect! I just changed my mirrors to the A1 Auto Tow mirrors and this process was flawless. I recommend anybody who is attempting this mod to contact Phil because he mades custom wiring harnesses that will make the A1 Auto Mirrors function properly. I ordered the harnesses from Phil and he walked me through the entire process. Without the modded harness, the A1 Auto Mirrors will not function properly. Thanks Phil for your help!

I wanted to ask you a question regarding my 2018 chevy DURAMAX, My truck did not come with the option bumper that has the Fog lights, so i bought a GM Bumper with the GM fog lights and wireharness that goes on the fog lights, all factory parts. So now I need the the fog light knob/switch and the harness, are there any options in getting those fog lights to work, I called the chevy dealership and they told me they would not do the work in hooking up the fog lights to work. Great video and thanks for the info/detail. Do you know if these tow mirrors can be retrofitted to a 2015 tahoe? I know the base is bigger than the stock Tahoe but it looks as if the tow replacement will just overlay the bottom window moulding.

Thanks! I haven't had any exposure to the SUV platform for this retrofit, but would imagine the steps would be similar. I don't think the mirrors will fit, so I would look into a mirror maker that specifically shows fitment for the SUV platform.

Do I have to swap the harness for both front doors?

I just purchased a 16 Tahoe LT with DL8 mirrors I want to switch to DL3 mirrors I purchased a drivers and passengers door/window switch with the folding mirror button and drivers and passenger DL3 mirrors. Would I still need a harness to make them fold or would they work with just the new window/ door switches. I just want them to fold don’t care about the signal

Phil, just love all your videos. Thanks for helping us all avoid mistakes. I do have a question though...after doing the complete install of my tow mirrors I find that the right mirror vibrates a little too much for my liking. Is there anything I can do to tighten it up a little bit? I pulled the glass all the way out on the top and bottom, shined a light in there, and everything appears to be installed correctly and intact. nothing appears broken, either. Any ideas? Thanks!

Some upper glass vibration is typical. I also noticed this on GM Factory mirrors as well. Are yours GM or aftermarket?

Process is the same for the door harness and mirrors. The difference is that you'll need to get a new door panel bezel trim (that supports the addition of a power adjust/fold switch) and and door panel harness. I've helped several WT Trim owners with this mod. For more info, please see the link in the description and send me a PM for more info.

Does the wiring harness 23387134 (mentioned in video) come with 1AMRP01786 mirrors? If not, is it needed? Trying to figure this out before ordering for my gasoline 2015 GMC Sierra SLT. This truck has power folding, memory, temp guage, and heat. Any tips, suggestions, comments are appreciated.

Any mirror upgrade will not be plug an play. I have helped over 100 members on the GM-Trucks Forum (Link in the description up above). GM uses a shared pin slot method withe the circuits routed to different slots on the other end (end that connects to the door hinge connect). I make and sell plug and play harnesses to members on that forum. Feel free to check the link out an PM there or ask questions on the thread if you need more info. It is a very comprehensive thread.

Hey Phil. I currently have power mirrors with defrost and Manuel fold. I ordered tow mirrors with Manuel fold and telescope wit hitch turn and power tilt. In your one video you mention 3 pins on the driver door harness. They are not present on the door side but are present on the body side. Does this mean I wouldn't have to proceed forward. Thanks.

Matthew, for tow mirror upgrades, the pins you want to look for are pins 9, 11, and 41. For anyone wanting to upgrade to tow mirrors, you will need to swap your door harnesses out OR modify your existing harnesses to accommodate the lighting. In the door jamb connector, Pin 9 is the Courtesy (Cargo Lamp/Revere Lamp), Pin 11 is the Park Lamp (Clearance/Running Lamp), and Pin 41 is the Turn Signal. This is the same for both sides. Since GM shares some of these slot locations for other purposes, it is a requirement for anyone upgrading to swap harnesses of modify your existing. IF, you do not have these pins on the cabin side mate connector, you WILL need the additional RZY Jumper Harness (Part #23387133). This is generally a requirement for ALL 2014 and some early 2015 trucks. For later 2015 models and on, the RZY Jumper Harness is not a requirement and only door harnesses (or existing door harness modifications) are required. For the DIY'ers out there, I do offer a DIY "Kit" that will come with what you need to make this modification yourself.

For the door harnesses, yes. That's what I make/sell on the forum (link in the description), however, with 2014, there will be more work ahead of you. In the link above, i explain the need for the RZY Jumper Harness. Your truck will not have the tow mirror light circuit pins present in the door jamb, going into the cabin and under the hood. Take a look at the first post in the thread above. It'll everything you need to know about this upgrade.

Okay. So I got tow mirrors I did research it will hook right up and work. The only things that won't work is the turn signal. What type of harness would I need to make that work??

2 Reasons - First, if you didn't change your door harnesses, the amber running light is not working the way its supposed to. It's supposed to be on anytime the headlamps/park lamps are on. If you kept the same harnesses, they are acting like your old puddle lamp where they only come on at night and when you unlock your door. Second, since your truck is a 2014, your door jamb connector on the cabin side is missing pins 9 and 11. These are the cargo and running light circuits. Check out my RZY Jumper Harness Video - Part # 23387133. That video shows when/why its needed.

Phil Gamboa You know the GM part number for the replacement harnesses on these trucks for tow mirrors? I just put tow mirrors on my new LTZ and the harnesses GM gave me do not let the mirrors Power fold.

Phil Gamboa yes I did but the harnesses didn't allow the power fold.to work. Everything else seemed to work bit the power fold.Them back to the dealership Saturday they are supposed to look tomorrow to try to find me the proper harnesses from my 2016 2500 00HD LTZ4X4 CREW CAB

Hey Jim, IA Auto only seems to carry their own after market mirrors. If you are looking to go to a DQS Mirror, these are power fold, mirror mirror, etc., the closest equivalent from 1A Auto is 1AMRP01786. This is the same mirror I tested in this video. I will caution that the mirror connector is not pinned like Factory GM DQS mirror though an required customization to the mirror connector itself. I also make custom Plug and Play harness to accommodate these mirrors to make them FULLY functional (including the bonus puddle lamp that this model comes with). I haven't had my hands on OEM mirror. The mirrors shown here were purchased from other members on the GM-Trucks Forum and sent to me for the customization. I tested them on my truck and based on the short test, they feel/appear to be solid after market mirrors. I've had my hands 7 sets so far from 1A Auto and haven't had any issues with any of them.

Any mirror upgrade needs a harness. If you have power mirrors now on your LS, you should be able to upgrade to Tow Mirrors. You'll need a set of new door harness or you'll need to modify your stock harnesses. Contact me at pgamboa@yahoo.com for more info.

I've got a 2017 Silverado LT crew cab with the small car style mirrors, manual folding right now. I want to. Upgrade to towing mirrors from ebay with puddle lights and power folding, and upgrade the terrible factory speakers if possible!!! I purchased Oem power folding to install. How do I get them to fold. I've added the folding switch. Everything works except power folding. Do I need programming changes?

If the new mirror has lights and your old mirror doesn't, a modification or harness swap needs to happen.

Can anyone tell me specifically what mirrors and harnesses I need to order for a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali to complete this upgrade? Wanting to go to the tow mirrors with all functions (folding, lights, etc). Would prefer to keep it genuine GMC but open to suggestions.

I can build the harness as needed for the mirror. Reverse Tilt is a seat memory dependent function so if you have that now (which you should since you're LTZ), that will retain so long as your new aftermarket mirror supports mirror memory. What do you mean "extend outwards"? You mean telescope or fold? You an also reach me at HarnessDR.com. Use the "contact us" feature.

Hey Phil... quick question. I have a 1500 LTZ and I’m gonna get the OEM LTZ 2500 mirrors. Do I need any extra wiring/harness for the amber lights/reverse lights or will these already be plug and play? The mirrors get reverse power to tilt down automatically when I reverse... the Amber is the real question I guess. Thanks.

Could you make me a harness? I have a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT with powerfolding heated memory auto dim etc. mirrors and in wanting to upgrade to the power fold tow mirrors with all the powered features as well as the cargo lights

If I currently have power fold, puddle light, turn signal in glass, memory seats in my 16 Ltz..... do you really need a different harness to just go to a bigger mirror and still retain all the same features? I mean I am not adding features that an lt or lower model.

GM, Trail Ridge by 1A Auto/AM Auto. I can build harness for any mirror. Just need to do some tests on the mirrors before a harness/DIY Kit can be built. Not all mirrors are built the same and many of the aftermarket ones will have their lights wired differently.

Hey Phil, Love the videos and the write ups. I have the DL3 mirrors and I lucked out and got some OEM DQS towing mirrors. Does this also require a new harness setup?

Yes sir. Towing Mirrors use Pins 1 & 2 in the mirror connector for Park and Cargo Lamps, and pin 13 for the turn signal. On a DL3 Mirror, Pins 1 is used for Puddle, Pin 2 is used for one of the auto dim circuits, and 13 is for turn. These circuits route to a different spot on the X500/X600 Door Jamb connector. So you will need new harnesses if you want to move to towing mirrors.

Would I only need a new harness? (IE one of the ones you make.) Do I get all the features I currently have (heated, power folding, turn signal puddle, running, cargo lights? Or would I have to wire in connectors from the BEC to the door jamb as well?

For all 2014 trucks, you'll need the RZY Jumper Harness Part # 23387133 to make the connections from the X500/X600 door jamp connector to their respective locations. Turn Signals (if missing) land in the BCM. Cargo Lamps land in the X61A Junction Box. This is the black box to the left of the Brake Pedal. Park Lamps go through the firewall and land in the X50A Under the hood Fuse Block. This is also the same is you have an early 2015 truck (AVF - RPO). If you are able to remove the door jamb connector an inspect the body side of the X500/X600, you'll want to see if you have Pins 9, 11, and 41. If you have them, then it will be Plug and Play with my custom harness. If you check out the link on the description, I have a photo showing this detail. Is it possible to upgrade from the factory base model non power mirrors to a heated towing mirror? I don't care about power folding. Power adjustable would be nice, but heated would be great. I rather not Jimmy rig the wiring. A nice factory finish would be nice.

16lcisneros - When upgrading from smaller DL8/DL3 Mirrors to Tow Mirrors, you will need new harnesses. I build these for each application. If you install the mirrors without swapping harnesses, the power adjust and heat will work. None of the lighting will. If you get my custom harnesses, all of the lighting will work, Plug and Play. You’ll also be able to gain power fold (Switch needed).
