2013 Volkswagen Jetta- Check Engine Light/Stalling, P0343 Cam Sensor Circuit High

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hey whats up everyone, long time no see.
In this video we are Diagnosing cam sensor faults on a 2013 Volkwagen Jetta with a 2.5liter engine. The customer complaint is a check engine light and stalling. The testing methods in this video can be used when diagnosing cam sensor circuits. keep in mind circuit design can vary on different applications. I hope you enjoy this video and thanks for watching.

    Good to see you Tommy. Wish you were able to share a bit more of your time but I understand there is more to life! Thanks for taking the time on this one.

    This is why you diagnose and not throw parts at it! I have had many 2.0t engines come in with just a cam sensor code like a p0341 and they had timing issues like chain stretch, worn parts causing oil pressure issues to cam adjuster.

    Welcome back and thanks! Interesting that it didn't stall despite the cam signal being completely missing.

    I cannot thank you enough! I've had these faults for 6 years. Back/forth to VW and they could never fix it. After deep diving into message boards and KZread I ran across your video with the exact same codes as your customer. I went ahead and replaced spark plugs, ignition coils, and the Camshaft Position Sensor on my own. Cleared the code and it runs like new! The spark plugs and ignition coils gave me back a super smooth idle. I am going on nearly a week with all the fixes with no issues, no EPC light, starting at every crank (mine was super unpredictable), and no Check Engine light. Thank you so much!!

    Hey Tommy I have a 2015 1.8 TSI Passat. It hit a sign in the left front. Starts and runs then runs rough after a couple min and won’t come out of park. Only damage I can find was 5 wires that go to the TCM. Replaced all damaged wires and still won’t come out of park. Have all power and grounds ok. Only fuse that poped was the 25 in the SC panel. Think it could have taken out the PCM. Scanned it and no com to Tcm,and a few other No com codes.

    Possibly has a bad tcm. Maybe took some damage if wiring was shorted together

    Great content... Could that have possibly been a pin contact issue?

  • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics

    @PositiveLeadDiagnostics

    It is possible a pin contact issue could create the same problem. But when you flex on the housing of sensor chances are it’s a failed sensor. I’ve repinned connectors before and it didn’t fix the issue because it’s a problem with the sensor

    I only have the p0323, cam circuit high. Cam/crank sensor is confirmed good. Extended cranking. How often is the actual harness an issue?

    I’ve seen all of the above with this code. I e seen bad cam sensors, open ground circuits and bad ecms. I would do some checks at the sensor again. Look at your sensor signal and sensor ground and see what you have and go from there.

    Showing the P0343 code on my 09 along with a P0651 which is for an open circuit. I’ve replaced the cam sensor twice and still no fix. Cleaned every ground i found. Does this sound like a wiring issue or an ECM issue?

  • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics

    @PositiveLeadDiagnostics

    Start with voltage checks at the sensor. You should have a 5volt reference and a sensor ground. The signal wire should have 5 volts on it with the sensor unplugged

    I'm looking into a p0343 code. On my supply voltage I have 4.99v but on the signal I have 4.86v. Is it normal normal for the signal on the harness side to have almost five volts when unplugged
