2013 Super Tenere Idle Issue

Ойын-сауық

2013 Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 with idle issues. Sometimes it idles high, sometimes low and even dies without warning and then hard to start. Other symptoms covered in the video. I don't think I'm the only one with these issues, but I think I may be one of the first to capture these problems on video.

I have had the same issue for over a year, and finally we got Yamaha to replace the wiring harness. Since then, I have not had it happen once. Its been 200 miles since then, and its idling great, and no issues with clutch in dying or rampant high idle Issue is pretty well documented here - www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/no-idle-and-high-idle-problem.2895/page-15#post-345074

That is a SAFETY RECALL ISSUE that Yamaha USA better get on top of ASAP or they will get the crap SUED out of them...There is NO EXCUSE for a bike in this era of technology to have such a dangerous issue occur on a random basis...

I also have the videos posted in a fbook group called Super Tenere USA. If you search in the group for this video title you can follow that string of comments as well if you so choose.

I've had a S10 for 50,000 mi and had the same issue, just isolate the stator wire, because it cause interference on the TPS due to bad isolation material , that will solve the problem. Very easy to do but a pain to find out the solution!

Does this have anything to do with it throwing a code 60?

My 2013 does the same thing although infrequent. Have not found a conclusive solution. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA, you should too. If enough people do that, a recall can be issued. By chance do you have the clutch switch mod done?

My 2012 does this idle dance.. was almost run over at an intersection, took off and it flat out died had to drop the bike and roll to the curb or get crushed. The guy in the truck was quick with the breaks. I called Yamaha U.S.A. Customer support and got such a shit answer of they don't care that Yamaha will never get my money again. I have had it crank to 4k and pull the clutch to normal. I made this shit happen when I had the battery side cover off running wiggle the cluster of wires above and foreword the battery behind the voltage regulator. It sucks and Yamaha will not help us, my YES ran out last month. A few of us have reported this issue to NHTSA.. I highly and strongly suggest filing a complaint with NHTSA. It really is quick and easy just a brief but detailed as much as you can description and your VIN number.. Every manufacturer watches the NHTSA complaints (a) because they are required to and (b) because these complaints are what initiate recalls. My next plan is ti call them and give them what the customer support manager at Yamaha U.S.A. gave me what i felt was a go away kid you bother me. What has me thinking Mother Yamaha knew this was a problem as the Genoration 2 models have not had but a couple records of this. And everyone that had their full wiring harness replaced the problem went away never to come back.. Call and harass I am going to jab at them till the get sick of me.. Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA 6555 Katella Avenue Customer Relations (800) 962-7926 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.File a complaint ASAP. www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ This truly is the best motorcycle I have owned in years besides my old 1200 Goldwing.. All they are doing is screwing themselves. And if one of us gets seriously hurt of killed because of it, that will be the last nail..

All stock no mods. I would like to find a solution first but may just give up and file a complaint as well. Thanks for your comment.

Don't give up but yes do file with NHTSA ASAP and call Yamaha. I did the clutch jumper thing for awhile but had my ECU flashed with better performance 110% better, it's not the flash causing it, it has been fine 2 years after the flash. I am not the only rider that has flashed an ECU because the fully stock generation 1 Yams are giving the same issues but not all????.. I know Damn well Yamaha knew about this as all Tenere's from 2104 up to now AKA generation 2 do not have this issue.. What we do know for certain It's electrical inside the harness.. Riders that had there harnesses replaced have had not one issue since, one guy is on over 6k miles now and still running normal. If you haven't tried this yet, take your right cover off start it up and when idling normal give that cluster between the battery and voltage regulator a little poke or tugs on the wires to see if you can make it react. Other owners found this out as well that it will bounce around your RPM's it does it on mine.. My voltage is always the same even when this starts acting up, so I can't say it's the regulator.. This truly sucks as I love this bike, freaking pickup truck/utility vehicle on two wheels. Keep in touch please these bastards owe us one.

Rob Lombardo::: It's always intermittent, you can go for a month or two and out of the clear blue total crap happens.. I run on 86 octane now as I noticed with 90 or 91 it happened more often than not. Why? I have no clue.. All i know it only happened now a few times in over three months running on low octane.. My bike suffers very little by the way using the low grade, no ping or chatter and a slight loss of pull power but you won't notice it as much as the days move on.
