3:24 There's that tail coming around on throttle lift. Amazing for a FWD hatch to exhibit that kind of rotation during moderate cornering. Real gamechanger.
This is what every test drive should look and sound like. Thanks!
I have this exact car. Same color too. It's an absolute blast. Very well-balanced, and it sticks to the road unlike anything I've driven. This is coming from someone who owned a 2013 Mustang GT 5.0 for 10 months, a pair of 350z's, a Neon SRT-4 with KW stage 2 suspension, a 2002 Sentra SE-R Spec V, and a 300zx. Also have driven a C6 Corvette. Focus ST is as fun as any of them, if not more so. The interior is of very high quality for this segment. Feels more like a 40,000+ car.
I'm an XXL guy and I found the seats very uncomfortable when I first sat in the car.... But that all disappeared after the first 10 minutes of driving it! I now find the seats VERY COMFORTABLE! 2000 miles in a matter of a few weeks... This car is a BLAST!
Very nice car, I had the opportunity to drive one of these Focus ST and I was impressed, so amazing this car .
I've really been looking forward to this. I'm getting my ST in a few weeks!
sounds amazing. Cabin noise is well displaced as well. For did a good job, NICE POV
Got mine yesterday!! LOVE IT!! same color!!
Interesting. I just took a 7000 mile road trip in mine and found the lumbar support to be excellent. I have chronic lower back problems too.
I love Ford! I got an 07 fully modded and enjoying it daily.
Can't wait to buy this car. Really fun to drive and looks great 👍
I'm hoping to get one of these for college. My mom has 2012 focus with ecoboost and everything in the interior is basically the same. Such a cool car.
I own this car after saying i wouldn't buy it. I was waiting for the fiesta ST. After seeing it in person and a test drive I bought it on the spot. Awesome car.
This is a very good video if you want to know something about the Focus ST. I am thinking of buying one and the way this video is put together is perfect! I don't need a lot of talking about the car, I can get the specifics about the thing on Ford's web site. Getting to watch it being driven in all kinds of traffic is what I need to help make my decision to buy one or not. Now that I've seen this, I think I'll breeze on by my local Ford dealer for a look - see.... Good Job Winding Road POV!
I love this car, what a sound!
Just bought one in silver... Pick it up Saturday.. Cant wait...
LOVE THIS CAR!
love that sound!
Sounds awesome man :)
Wow the shifts seem so smooth...
a demo on the sound, and showing the abrupt turn-in at the beginning of a curve...actually a bonus to handling that should be balanced with throttle through the turn..I was realy surprised when the Kia Rio rental car had this handling trait...'til I heard the German Peter Schreyer was behind it.
Yes, it does have some wheel hop with the stock lower motor mount. I'm seeing good feedback from people who replaced that one piece.
What a beautiful sound
Gotta love the little twitch of steering correction @ 3:25.
At 3:25 it went WEEEE for 1 second lol I love the ST and the upcoming RS
This car is awesome! I hope to purchase one soon.
Exactly. I've owned and driven lots of high-powered, RWD cars, but the ST is as much fun as any of them. You can rotate the rear end at will while in motion. The car is telepathic in the corners.
Active sound symposer...and it never gets old. From what I've read, it's simply intake noise directed to the cabin. No fake sound or speaker.
Great driving, hands at 3 and 9 o'clock and great heel and toe...
I bought the Focus 2 months ago and I loving it.The MSRP was 21500 and I got it for 18200. It is the blue candy crush color and it is stunning! It has blue leds, excellent stereo/CD system and multiple extras. I have owned a mustang (loved it), I have owned a Ranger(liked it), I have owned a fiesta(excellent mpg). I will buy Ford for many reasons and will continue to buy Ford, no other can compare. That is my opinion.
Pretty cool little car
looks like fun!
I really don't understand anybody's complaints about the interior. Some of the colors available for the Recaro seats are gaudy, but that's it. Overall it has one of the nicest interiors anywhere in this price range, if not the nicest. Nicely laid-out, and the quality of materials is very good for a compact car.
These are very nice cars..my good friend just bought one exactly like this one..have not see teh ST3 as yet..maybe today..
The GTI had the "soundaktor," which is actually a speaker and amplifier under the hood, which plays a sound file stored on the ECU. It's not just a sound tube/box like the ST and Mustang.
Awesome looking car :D
Nice to see someone who drives a manual correctly.
i currently own a 130i hatchback and very interested in this car, its got character.
I know what you mean. Lots of people dont like the shape, i do however. and i think its gorgeous, but more importantly its the best value for money around. which is why i have ordered my focus st and it should be arriving in 2 days time.
I just purchased this ST in performance blue and it is awesome. My dad owns a 2013 Boss 302 and I much rather drive this car on a daily basis. The most fun and enjoyable daily driver for this price, hands down.
this thing sounds awesome in person if y'all haven't ridden in one. I was shocked. I'm more of a big v8 guy and I love this car. Traded in my King Ranch F150 lifted, loaded, and modded out for one. but it was a straight trade when my truck had 115,000 on it...
The Focus ST has a feature called the "Sound Symposer". It enhances the intake sound and pipes it into the cabin....
Came here for the winding roads, didn't find any. :P On a serious note there are other cars out there that will out power the ST, the ST is quite a contender. Accelerating 0-60 is one thing, but the ST really comes alive the twisties and on the back-roads. It's not as raw as the first-gen MS3 yet it will still give and beg for you to push it harder while leaving a smile on your face.
Very good driving, do you track sometimes?
I did sit in the Recaro seats and the base package seats. The Recaro's definitely hug well, I'm 5'7" 160 lbs and they felt pretty comfortable. The base seats felt a little loose for me around the legs, but allowed me to sit a little further back and still reach the pedals fine. I'm debating between one of these or a Fiesta ST right now, which I can get with the Recaro interior for a little less than the base model Focus ST. Decisions decisions...
Nice! Noticed some of places in the video Geddes road, M14 etc. Is there any torque steer?
I'm getting between 26.7 and 27 MPG, that's commuting too, no highway. I am very happy with that.
On sport mode yes. I have driven the ST extensively on a track. With TC on, it's very difficult to get it to do anything exciting. Sport mode on the other hand let's you have a bit of fun with it.
Regarding the lumbar support of the recaro seats. I feel there is none. The car is GREAT for every day driving. But if I go on a road trip, I am in pain. I'm talking 4hrs. Tuesday I leave out for a trip from Atlanta to Arizona. 25 hrs. I recently purchased a lumbar support to hopefully give my back some relief. I got it from bed, bath, and beyond. It isn't perfect but it definitely helps. I'll see how this road trip goes. Oh, and watch out for that Beyond section, I hear its a doozie.
thanks for the input, never drove a focus but did have a golf 1.4 tsi which was a heap of **** gearbox kept going lol. I know moving from bmw to ford might sound silly but, i think moving with the times (turbo charging) is the thing to do. My have around 310/315 with mod but damn it could drink v-power!! :)
I saw the first one of these at the Austin F1 Grand Prix, in Tangerine Scream, and it looks even better in person. Been looking to get a new car, think this might be it. Quick (enough), very nice interior (most reviews have said best in class), roomy, and practical. All I need. Hopefully mods could get this to 300hp? If so, I'd be done :)
This care looks like a fun Ride

It is
Seats are awesome
Just imagine how much extra HP & TQ will be gained by all the different available CAI/Tuner combo's out there. They must be having a field day with this new ST Turbo :)
I got 2013 st with the st2 package in it for 13k and only had 90k miles on it and loving it great car imo glad i got one since they are no longer going to produce them here in the states since they only going make suv crossovers trucks and mustangs wouldve loved to be able purchase the 2019 STLine but only available in UK the Focus Active is going to be sold here but made in Japan i believe but dont like that body style n the import tax is going to make the price go up as well wished wouldve kept the st line up going
jsmore you hit the nail on the head!
best sounding 4 banger i have heard in a car
Hey my friend, what camera are you using? I want to get the same equipment as yours.
What are you talking about? It's one of the best fast, affordable daily drivers on the market. The interior feels upscale and it's very pleasant to drive on long trips. This might be the best all-around car on the market under 40 grand.
Some say it sucks... other like me think it's really kind of cool! Just added a prototype axle back exhaust system to my ST and it absolutely blew me away how good a 4 cylinder can sound! So stock the ST growls on the inside and with a little help it can GROWL on the outside too!!!
Have you driven the ST? I ask because there is just something about it. It's magic. I owned a 2013 Mustang GT 5.0. While that car was much faster in a straight line, it wasn't as nice a car. The interior in the Focus ST is better, it rides better, gets better gas mileage (much better in town), sticks to the road better, is more tossable, and less common. I've only seen 2 other Focus STs on the road in my area (Austin, TX) in the last 6 weeks.
Sounds delicious.
Ahh.... great sounding engine
This trip started in Livonia. It appeared to be 7 mile rd and I-275
That's a nice blue
think its beautiful.
lol, my city!!!!! nice ST as well.
I pick up mine at 10am tomorrow. Same cplour and spec
I believe his Traction Control was on buddy, the car is just tail happy to make it fun to drive
Everything you've said is true, but you've summed up the key point in the first sentence. The Focus ST is more fun. That's all it is - it's more power for less money. The GTI is everything the Focus isn't: Classy, Quality, Reliability, Resale Value, plus it's just Golf GTI - where as the Focus is just, well,... a focus.
I've had the opposite experience with the ST. Because of the way the E-diff works, it will oversteer progressively more and more as you get on the thottle mid-corner. The outside front wheel spins faster than the inside, and the rear inside brake modulates to help the car rotate. I'm not sure how you're getting it to understeer by hitting the throttle, unless you're just not turning the wheel hard enough.
I just noticed you were from michigan. I was like holy hell that's 6 mil in the beginning haha.
If that video was filmed recently, than yes, it could have been pretty cold! Other than this last weekend, it's been chilly here in Michigan.
Where do I get the left mirror with integrated blind spot mirror? Seen at 1:35
I bought an ST as well. Would have been more interested in the Sirocco R if they sold it here.
Fiesta st!!!!!!!!! Please upload a video like this of the new fiesta st.
Ford needs to bring the Focus ST Wagon to the states, I would buy one.
actually it is the oposite. when your car is idling in neutral with the clutch pedal out, you are using your throwout barring. when your foot is down and tranny in gear you are not using that barring. on a clutch that throwout barring sometimes wears out before your clutch, if it is used to much. so it is better to sit in gear with your foot on clutch at red lights. (you dont have to believe me you can do your own research yourself or ask your local transmission shop.)
@metalbloodshed I tried to step down in 1st in mine and def got what I'd call violent wheel hop near 5500-6K RPM's. I've been trying to see what people are doing to lessen this issue. As of now, I just shift before it has the chance to do that. It also breaks loose in 2nd near 6K RPM's, but no wheel hop there. Given, this was in sport mode...not sure if this guy didn't know about sport mode or not, but he wasn't using it in this vid. You really can tell a difference when you switch modes.

The wheel hop is an issue due to the weak motor mounts. There's a TSB on them right now and I believe Ford dealer can replace them with stronger ones, although going aftermarket would probably be better.
What kind of mount/tripod are you using to get the strafing shots?
i have a 2007 st and i see they still have the loudest turn signals out there
Best hot hatch OF 2013 hands down.
My dad had one in white and it completely stock
Wow this car is better than my new GR Corolla 👍🏼
I recently bought a 2013 Ford Focus ST because it’s even more fun than the GTI. Styling is a matter of personal taste and I think both cars look nice enough (I own a GTI too). But the Focus ST is very noticeably more powerful (Ford Focus ST, 252 HP and 270 TQ versus GTI, 200 HP and 207 TQ). Plus, the ST’s engine sounds great! The Ford Focus ST is significantly more athletic and it even costs a few grand less than the GTI. Sorry VW but Ford got my money.
This is my exact car! Awesome.

Yes but you have to start in 2nd... because it slips to much, I owned this car as new once ! ;-)
At 2:00, did you make a right turn from the left lane?
Damn, those seats are legit! Are they comfortable?
Not a fan of blue though, but I do love the car!! 252 HP 2.0L i4 GTDI Ecoboost engine with a 6MT. Perfect hatchback for a road trip, even with the navigation system :)
Ford forever!
The fiesta st comes in a two door. It has very similar looks.
Sorry I fed you, I realize now you're just trolling this youtube video now. You win.
I have to agree with you about the 6-speed. Overall it has a good feel, but the gear ratios are a bit off. 6th should be a deeper overdrive. 4th and 5th are too close together.
The driving dynamics of the car seem nice, but I dunno... the interior is sort of busy looking. Although, at least it's better than the yellow version. IMO of course. I watched a review of this car vs. the Golf R, and I wouldn't mind the Golf' interior matched with the exterior looks of the ST. Also, I don't like that they have to pump a fake sound into the cabin. And at 5:05... is that wheel hop or just the bumps in the uneven pavement?
personally if i got the money i would consider something from bmw with rear weal drive...but you have that so..the next best thing i think its the focus...i have a focus 1.4l its slow as hell...i went to testdrive bmw 320d xdrive...then again back to my car..except the power i honestly didnt notice any other difference..the steering feedback is almost the same...the handling more-less the same...it is weird..usually you notice/feel how different cars are but in this case...no :D dont know why
Dang car sure is tail happy. Coming from a WRX which suffers mainly from understeer, having the ass end come out during a high speed corner is something I would definitely have to get used too. I think most car companies try to dial in more understeer because it makes the car more predictable. I wonder how many high school kids will end up in a ditch facing the other direction in this car.
I wish ford did more to make its exterior more appealing. this car has so many nice features but the majority of the reason I personally buy a car is for its appearance. plus for having the HP numbers it does, this car under performs. I really wanted to like it.
did u experience bangs on the firewall, mainly 1-2 shifts?
Exhaust outside sounds tin canie and omg the fake intake sound inside! A shame the interior is aight tho flat bottom steering would have been perfect, kool head cam vid!
I own the car. The turning radius is really one of my only complaints. However, it does seem to have a lower steering ratio than its competitors. Meaning, less wheel movement to make the tires actually turn. With regard to the 6-speed. Those 4th and 5th gears are close because when you are on the track and in those gears you need them to be close because you are running out of power at those speeds (117mph). You don't put a 6 speed in for street driving. You really don't even need a 5 speed.
