Awesome review man! I love the ST myself and have a few friends who swear by them. The red emblem was throwing me off though...all I thought was Mcdonalds which the yellow color. Oh well, the owner has a good taste of music.haha.

Maybe it's a Subliminal thing, but I couldn't shake the feeling throughout this video that I should call Door Dash and order Happy Meal ... lol

This last week I test drove a BRZ, Civic Si, Accord Coupe, Fiesta ST and Focus ST. The most fun was the Focus ST BY FAR. Wasn't planning on buying a car, but I am telling you it by far more fun than the others and honestly feels like a muscle car in its power delivery. The turn in is incredible. Also, on your review you never gave it juice on a dry road in 3rd or 4th gear through the entire boost range...you need to do that then you will get the ST. Cheers-

Drove one and loved it, I'm getting ready to buy one when I get around to selling my current car. Fortunately, I won't be ruining it with red badges and horrible looking rims.

I agree on the red badges but it's pretty obvious that those are spare rims with nice winter tires on them. If you live in a Northern state it's pretty much a must

I'm aware of that. But winter is half the year and if I'm going to invest the money in season-specific tires then I'm getting some decent looking wheels. But to each their own I suppose.

Haha that's what happens when I'm in a rush. In my other reviews I usually have the entire day with the car so I have more time to think about what I wanna say. When the car is privately owned by someone they normally can't let me have it all day, which is why this one my seem less polished than my other recent reviews.

I can understand the different wheels for snow tires, but those red emblems... gah

....The ST has 270 lb.-ft. not 250, more than 250 is delivered to the wheels. But everything else you say is spot on, love mine and yes the center console is a good armrest for long trips, I frequently have to do 500+ mile trips. The steering does make this car so much fun, especially after a long straight drive, when you have a chance to go fast around turns it gives you a lot of confidence and makes you know how well this car was engineered.

It's rated at 270 lb/ft of torque stock, not 250. Dyno testing has shown that it actually makes at least 290 lb/ft at the crank.

@@hartsickdisciple - You probably won't ever see this but, I've been offered a very nice 2013 ST-3 with a nice but not over the top face lift, only has 29k miles on the clock, full ford service history never a thing wrong with it and is in immaculate condition all for 10 grand. Is it worth, in your opinion having own the same model, worth buying?

Why you keep saying 250ft lb of tq? Try 270 as advertised but in reality it's more like 300+ft lb! Stock ST's put down no less than 270 to the front wheel. The reason why it suck in 0-60 is due to fwd and traction. From a roll ST kick a$$!

Another good review ignore the haters especially those picks who get all abusive and personal. I've owned both evos, sti's and gtis different year models across the range. Why did I buy the ST. Value for money, fun, quick with lots of torque, some of the best seats around and it has real character. Sure the Gti is more refined but it's dull and boring. The ST is bonkers with great handling and plenty of torque. Best bang for the buck. Where I am there is a difference of £7000 and ford comes with 5 years warranty, service and registration. All for £15000 2014

Im not a Ford fan but I drove a 2013 Explorer Sport a few days ago and wow, they have come a long way in the past 10 years.

I have a Focus ST too. love it. interior is better quality than an STi, evo, etc for the price. not really any cheap plastic. Couldn't be happier with it.

memphis407 It is now the STI trademark sound. They are keeping the unequal headers in the STI. They have equal headers on the WRX though.

***** So, thumbs down on the GTI, Golf R they aren't class leaders in any market nor are they competitors for this car. The ST vs MazdaSpeed3 is more like it. And, you can't compare an ST to an STi, that's largely reserved for something like the Focus RS which won't be around again until the middle of this year. From what I've read it's going to be around 330 HP, no torque numbers yet though. But judging from the RS and RS 500 froma few years back, they murdered STi's...

"Nice" review of the Focus ST. Purchased one myself 6 months ago after previously owning a 2010 Mazdaspeed3 and 2012 GTI. You hit the nail on the head right at the end of the review... "This is the most fun car to drive". The combination of power delivery, steering response, brake feel and refinement cannot be matched at under $30K... period. P.S. one thing you didn't mention is the ultra-quick steering ratio (10.1 to 1). This is a full 50% quicker than the GTI and totally addicting. Something you probably didn't notice until getting back into your own car.

I’m about to get one of these, so excited. Test drove it today.

I love the ST's. Didn't like the red emblems and rims on this one. Sadly, I can't fit in these cars because I'm a bigger guy. Test drove a normal focus hatchback and it was cramped for me with no space behind myself for the back seat, so I could only imagine how the recaro seats must be lol.

i just got back from the dealership this morning ordering my ST. Loved the review.. loved the enthusiasm

am I the only one who if they had to buy an affordable new car would only buy a Ford? There is just something about ford that attracts me, it might just be the Ford logo, it's just so perfect. I would never go for foreign cars I don't know why. I like them don't get me wrong, but I could never see myself buying one, they just aren't built the same. Give me the keys to an Audi R-8 I won't complain... but you know what I mean.

Enjoy all your reviews. As for all youtube car reviewers and in my opinion, you are hands down the best. Although I don't agree with some comments, I truly appreciate how you review from your experience and not filled with copy cat statements as many others. I would like to however point out a bit of disappointment at the fact that the last Focus ST you reviewed is a 2013. To some, the differences may seem too small, but I think you, as a car enthusiast, can appreciate the changes enough to run a more current review. Its definitely one my favorite modern hatchbacks and would love to see your comments and input.

Nice to see you reviewed one in the right color too.

I bought a focus st 2013 and when the car is stock it really isn't that fast and was a bit let down tbh after watching a few reviews where everyone said its really quick. But once you get a tune done on it or remap, it really goes to the next level and feels great. Ive only just got a tune done on mine and very happy with it and owned it for about 8 months now with 63000ks on the clock

Excellent review, Focus ST is the second best if not the best hot hatch about. One problem with this partcualar car apart from the red badges, the owner should have cleaned it a little before you reviewed it.

Ricky Vang the old ones yet but the cureent type R civics are not half as good as the previous models.

I'm a bigger guy, and it took almost 8-12 weeks for the seats to break in. Skinny dudes I guess no problem but they do begin to spread and get way more comfortable after some body heat to soften the leather.

You mentioned the sound system at the start of the video but you never said how good it is. I know that Sony is a good company for speaker so I was wondering about how they did in this car. Please let me know what you thought.

It sounded really crisp and clear, right up there with all the luxury car stereos, and of course it had really powerful bass too with the subwoofer in the back.

I thought the torque was 270 lb ft @ 2500 RPM. I test drove one of these last fall. I loved it! Drives like a European car. Clutch and shifting is a lot lighter/easier than the 3.7L Mustang. Good review as usual Matt!

I really like all of your reviews man! Keep it up! Now about the ST. I totally agree with all of your thoughts, its a phenomenal car

With the red Ford badge, I thought this might have been subliminal advertising for McDonald's or something. I couldn't spend 25-30k on a car and never clean it. The mats look muddy as f, grass in the back, dusty dash, $92 worth of change down in the console. Hope she gets a detail soon.

Seriously its brand new and it looks a used soccer mom SUV inside. If I had one it would be cleaned every week and surely nothing large lying around.,

The Focus ST, G37, and E90-era 3-Series are hands down the best Used Car values on the Market for around $11k. I give an Honorable mention to the Fiesta ST & FIAT ABARTH too, but they aren't quite in the same class as the 3 I mentioned above - only in terms of overall refinement. That DOESN'T mean they aren't fun as Hell and will ALSO make your Sports-Car-Soul smile.

Having been in An Evo, a Pontiac g8 and a handful of corvettes, i can say that of all the sports cars I've drove in or have driven, the best seats I've ever sat in where in an 8th gen civic si.

I feel like it rains in every review you do lol

the red emblem doesn't do it justice I think it takes away from the car not to mention it's the mcdonalds color way

2013 FF ST is a great performance bargain. Not too difficult to get 290hp/310tq out of it(SCT tune with cold air intake)

I don't know if its the camera angle but that steering wheel looks huge.

That's what I noticed too. It's so dusty by the top gauge cluster area.

really nice review, man. i recently bought an ST after 9 years of driving a mercedes e320 and let me tell you, i look forward to every time i get a chance to go anywhere. yeah, i think the wrx looks a little better - but dollar for dollar this is an amazing car if you need 4 doors like i do.

Does it feel "very nice"?... I've got a 2013 Focus ST and it's an absolute blast to drive. I'm coming from a A4 2.0T,6SP manual and my Focus just kills it in the fun factor. I actually chose the base model because of the seats. The cloth seats in the base are so much better. The center stack is a bit ugly but I'll sacrifice that for a comfortable seat since I drive a lot. I test drove BRZ, GTI, and the ST again just killed it with the fun. Ford also offers a free track day out in Utah for owners of the ST. You just gotta pay to get there, then you can abuse their cars all day.

So much potential as an automotive journalist! Keep it up and get your hands on a new z06 as soon as you can!!! Would love to see your reaction to it!

At first I didn't like that color but I think it looks pretty nice... just on the wrong car though. Loved the review by the way!

Even when I lived in Boston during the middle of the winter, the interior of my car never was that dirty.

You are the perfect guy to test drive cars for me since we are the exact same height and skinniness :D

The ST emblems are red so I could see where there might be some inspiration to make the ford emblems red too... I think it might look better on the black one but whatever, if the owner likes it then that's whats up

I've always like these "tangerine scream" colored ST's. I almost bought one back in the day with low mileage, which I should have instead of getting a boring 2010 Mustang GT (which has since been sold). This one is great except for those awful red Ford emblems. Not sure if those are just red decals over the badges and steering wheel emblem, but it doesn't look good IMO. Only Honda can get away with that. Anyway, besides that minor critique, nice ride!

Please do the old ST version 2005/6/7 ish...

I love the Lambo-style exhaust tip, but the rear lights look somehow odd to me (especially from the side). In Europe we even get this thing as a wagon. Not the worst option to haul your familiy and stuff around. Still miss the 5-cylinder though...

does torque steer veer the car either left or right or only to a certain direction?

got a question I got a focus st and I live 1 mile from the highway and I like to drive fast. In the morning how long should I warm up the car or how should I drive it since I am so close to the highway, and have to get up to at least 55mph after 1 mile. thanks

finally!! i love my st!!!

I was cross shopping the 2015 focus st with the 2015 Civic Si and decided to get the Si; too much torque steer in the ST, Honda has a better reputation, I've seen vastly more Si's on the road than the ST, notwithstanding relatively close pricing and arguably better performance metrics; I also liked the tech in the Si (viz the lane watch camera... my wife constantly blocks that right mirror, making the camera very helpful). But I love the ST, its a quintessential beast.

The focus ST I test drive had NO pull (push in seat feel) when I stepped on it. There were 2 others passengers; maybe that's why?

The only thing I don't like is the lack of a real LSD which thankfully Quaife made an aftermarket LSD for it already. If I bought one I'd start with an exhaust, the Quaife LSD and some stickier tires. It'd be perfect
