2013 Cadillac XTS Review

Huge luxury without the huge price tag, XTS wows with technology
www.autoguide.com/manufacturer...
Cadillac's return to large luxury comes with an inherent gamble, that Americans want to buy, and will continue to want to buy, large luxury machines. With compact cars now outselling mid-size ones, there seems to be no evidence to support this plan. Then again, perhaps the luxury segment is different.

It doesn't matter if you think it's ugly or not, it WILL turn heads and have you watching it roll down the street. I once saw a white on the road and my jaw almost dropped. It's such a stunning car...
I just bought my first Caddy..a 2010 DTS. It is without doubt the fastest and best handling car I have ever owned, and I have owned some muscle cars. The fuel mileage is outstanding with 16mpg around town and I have gotten 25mpg hwy. The A/C is so cold I could hang meat in the car. Comfortable, affordable, efficient at a great price too. You couldn't give me a MBZ or a BMW. I'm sold...Cadillacs for me from now on.
There's A LOT of haters of this car. They need to build a XTS-V to shut the haters up. Like the CTS-V did to the BMW fanboys.
ive gone off cadillac since they went off large cars, but this fits the bill! amazing. nothing wrong with that V6 either. hope they make a xts coupe, we want big coupes back!
This new XTS is the most GORGEOUS car on the market in my opinion.
I test drove one a couple years back, one of the most comfortable, quite and smooth riding cars I've ever driven, and to tell you the truth although I love high performance cars, I didn't care if the XTS had enough grunt or not, just wanted to cruise along for hours in it.
I think the XTS is the best at pulling off Cadillac's new design language. It's very sleek and sexy, but still maintains that stance of elegance from traditional cadillacs
Well done GM! I'm not a big car guy, but I do love this new Caddy!
And the interior of the XTS is a thing of beauty!
Bought this car two weeks ago traded eclass in for it. Had German for years, but really love this car so far. Mb needs to get on the technology like this bad boy.
I think this is one of the most beautiful cars on the market today.
I've always loved Cadillacs. My first car was a 93 Eldorado. They have always been wrapped in leather. Right now I have a 2010 DTS. I'm not getting a newer Cadillac. They feel too much like BMWs now. I loved the softness. Mercedes took Cadillac buyers, not BMW, and now they got me because the way the 2013 e class looks and rides It won me over.
I test drove one of these with my folks. Its A very nice car. To me it seems like Cadillac made this XTS for people who want the Ciel but cant afford it. Except for the engine. But all in all very sexy car. Good work Caddy
I looked at one today and it is a gorgeous and luxurious car. As a matter of fact my buddy got rid of his S550 and ordered a Platinum XTS in case people are wondering if BMW and Mercedes buyers will buy this car. In the meantime he has to make do with driving his Ferrari F430 Spider. Cadillac just might be back. A redesigned Escalade with the CUE system will be awesome. I love how this cars looks inside and out. A V8 in this car would be just spectacular.
the video quality is superb
Wow great review! :-)
Stunning!
For a " large car " I doubt this will attract many 7 series ( L ) or S class buyers but, it definitely gives the Equus competition ( if you're not too concerned about HP ). Slightly shorter in length yet has more legroom, a bigger trunk than the Equus. Still maintains a pretty substantial luxury feel and priced accordingly. Gotta love Hyundai picking up your car and dropping one off when needing service though. It'll be interesting to see how sales of both turn out.
Very informative video
Nowadays I'm proud of the cars we're making here in the states. Side note; I still like the look of traditional analog gauges, they just add more class and for lack of a better word flair. Otherwise I like it, especially the interior design.
best Cadilllac in long time!
Is that a random clip of a CTS at 0:46? :) Still, great video AG, as always!
looks like a nicer version of the old fusion, but that interior is amazing.
I look forward to seeing one of these in person. Seems like they've got a winner here...or what should be one, anyway.
It has next generation Magnetic Ride control and airbags in the rear that self level the ride to make up for weight in the back, which makes it feel like it's riding on air because it is, the first car with a haptic feedback touchscreen that is proximity sensing (meaning off, then automatically comes on when you put your hand near it) that also recognizes hand gestures, first car with seat virbaters as a lane assist. These are some of the thing that have not been done before.
looks reallly niceee
Great Car. Love Cadillac. Wonder if they make a coupe, 2-door design...
Great Vid
Built on a supped up and streched platform of what is the 9-3 chassis from 2003. Recycling at it's best.
What a BEAUTIFUL car!
I like how Cadillac started doing performance cars and now they just released the large luxury sedans but I hope they do it like Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, and Audi on how they have Large Luxury Sedans AND Large Performance Luxury Sedans like the LS 460 Sport, B7 Alpina, S65 AMG, XJL Supersport, and the A8 W12
I agree with the V8 and rear wheel drive, as far as big though, this car is the largest I have found. Bigger than the A8, same as s-class, 7 series, for 30-60k less.
Yep! I thought I was imagining that.
This isn't the BMW 7 series fighter, Cadillac said that; less cylinders doesn't mean less power; it has much more cohesive look than other cars; the attention to interior detail looks fantastic; Cadillac now is not just a "gussied" up GM model.
"Leather on the back of the seats" Either this is the first Cadillac this nerd has ever driven or he's been under a rock for atleast the last 40 years.
FINALLY , a cadillac with a good interior and pretty reasonalble looks , thank you GM lol
Beautiful car!! Greetings from EU, Croatia..🇪🇺🇭🇷
I agree with you...It will happen again as Cadillac continue to develop, I am not sure about the rolls royce level, maybe Cadillac will make a car that compete with the 7-series.. Thanks for your comment about cadillac, alot of people still doesn't understand it, and also we (american) also love german auto
Gorgeous car! I have a 2011 5-Series and was thinking that this could seriously be my next. However, I looked at the dimensions and its so damn long at 202"!...the Bimmer is 193"...that's a huge and unnecessary difference. Then I noticed its FWD...WTF?? The should have mimicked that 5-Series just like they did with the ATS and the 3-Series. Other than that nice job GM!
ATS, 3-series, A4, C-class are in the same class. CTS, 5-series, A6, E-class compete each other. Lastly, XTS, S-class, 7-series, A8, XJ are in the same segment. Note that, XTS, S350, 730i, A8 3.5 have the similar size and similar engine (V6, I6, 300+ hp range)
Look up the Cadillac sixteen. It was very close to going into production and their developing another car with that sort of luxury right now.
Been in one for quite some time now and it's one of the best cars I've ever been near. Blows away BMW and Mercedes. Audi and Lexus shouldn't even be in a conversation with this car
Love the look of this car, can't wait til the next auto show so I can sit in one and touch it and ooohhh and ahhh over it. Maybe i'll get a dealer to let me test drive one when they show up. lol *cross fingers*
The XTS is fwd with a Haldex AWD sytem, the same systen Audi uses. The A3, A4, A8 and TT, are all fwd based cars. Do you disregard those as well?
I love the look to the XTS. What is the difference between the XTS and the CTS sedan. Im looking to buy a AWD version of one of them

XTS is just bigger and comfier
@BigSCTVfan most new high end cars have a voice feature, just change it that way
I've never cared for Audi's styling except for thei A8. Can't argue that they build top notch interiors. Lexcus GS caters to a different niche in the luxury market. If you're gonna compare a Lexus then compare it to another fwd in Lexus stable, the ES350. The GS competes against the likes of the CTS, both are the same length, rwd, and similar pricing points and last time i checked they get the same EPA city/hwy ratings. Lexus isn't billing itself as a performance/sports company but Cadillac is.
no the car maxed out at $61000, and you get AWD with magnetic ride control, which pretty much matches up with the Audi A6 3.0T which is also a FWD based AWD car priced at similar level
Like the dts I hope the convertible is good
I'm happy you seen what " I " see...LOL Thanks...
Is it ME or does ANYONE else see the Lincoln MKS in this....here and there ? Well,I do because I have a MKS and also I see a touch of Jaguar in this too...Lovely...
I agree....
Love my XTS Platinum...but why the CTS in this video lol who did that editing
Totally agree. 528I, Audi, all have 6 cylinders with similar specs. Why not xts?
I got one of these as a loaner, was the most comfortable car ever. But do the sunroofs still leak? Do the wheel bearings and struts last as long as an oil change? If they haven't made significant improvements from older models, the hefty price tag is nothing next to all the repairs.

Very true
mannn. this is sweet. And a 300+hp V6 with AWD is gonna get up and move on the low end. especially for a car this big. seems like a no-brainer.
I agree that the performance could be better, but whats wrong with 305 HP V6? That's by no means underpowered. I have a Lacrosse CXS with the same engine (less 2 HP) and it's plenty powerful.
The XTS magically transformed into a CTS then back.
omg more cars need digital displays they look soo nice
GM stated they would not make a V series for this model. only the ATS and CTS will get V series performance. The only thing they may do is add a twin turbo v6 model which may eventually trickle down into other GM models, similar to what Ford has done with its EcoBoost v6
Exterior and engine power, they re-invented the luxury sedan market.
Yea, we call that smart marketing so its one platform not different ones for different cars... all that is shared is the chasis itself and the 3.6L engine.
looks really great, I love the design! and a real welcome change to all the german sedans! however, what a car of this class needs (and especially since it's an american car).....is devinitely a V8! I'm sure this is still going to be released.
I'm deciding between the Audi A4,Acura TL and this Cadillac XTS. I really want to get this Cadillac but I don't have any planned funerals to go to in the near future.
There is so much hate towards the CUE system, I don't think it's as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I will say, however, that the CUE system could use more refinement but is a good start in the right direction.
this will make a fantastic new black car
Impala has no AWD, as well as that seat vibration and other items won't be offered on the Impala. Thats why you buy it. For more tech options and a better interior though the new Impala is impressive, saw it in person at NYC.
i'm always suprised to see how much these guys like to be seen on screen instead of the cars they talk about... there is absolutely no interest to see you talking while driving ! we watch these vids to see the cars, details, ergonomics, etc.

Ha! I agree. To see an extreme close-up of the driver's face doesn't tell anything about the car. And they always talk with their hands while driving! Tom Voelk at Driven Car Reviews does reviews that are mostly footage of the car with his voice dubbed over. Plus, he does more real-world cars. To me the worst is when they review cars on the track. Nobody drives on a track in the real world!
A7 is sport coupe sedan, XTS is a full size execu-sedan. The only reason I said A6 and not A8 which is similar in size is because of the price.
This Car is Awesome ^_^
Pretty impressive, but I think the performance should be upped. It's like the took a Buick Lacrosse (which is a very nice car) and added a couple of extras to it. I hope GM is going back to badge engineering.
The XTS has already handled better than the BMW is the recent road tests. It also uses premium Italian leather on both sides of the seats, the dashboard, door panels and even the interior ceiling is covered in Italian suede. The CUE system, along with the magnetic suspension, actually make it more technologically advanced than the BMWs now. Cadillac is less expensive to purchase, insure, and up to 4 times less expensive to repair. BMW has the highest fatality rate, per mile driven, of any car.
Are you talking about iDrive on a 2001 7 series? The iDrive was first introduced for the 2002 7 series.
I wonder if there will be a XTS-V version.
I hope the dts come back 1 day with a redesigned Northstar V8
Every review I've see of this car has said that it handles surprisingly well, I'm thinking GM has got a handle on the FWD thing.
my thoughts exactly
I'm not a fan of FWD either, but I live in California where no one needs it. Some people can't live without FWD in snowier/rainier regions. Having grown up in NY, I can attest to the need for FWD on icy, snow packed roads where RWD can't go. That said, you might not like it, you might call it shit, but I think Cadillac knows what they're doing here. AWD is optional here, too.
Although I do agree with you the Lacrosse will cannibalize some XTS sales. The new Lacrosse is pretty nice for what it is, and I have a hard time justifying paying money for a FWD car, so obviously I would go with the cheaper FWD car.
The spec sheet doesn't always sum up the differences -- trust me, there are plenty of cars out there that I can't even get my feet on the floor because of lack of legroom, and on paper they have the same amount of legroom as cars I have no issues in. And the build quality and interior of the XTS vastly superior to the Lacrosse, that's what you're paying for. It may not be worth it to you, but at the same time the difference should be quite obvious
@Peichen01 Good point.
Maybe when it comes to sportiness but not when it comes to reliability and efficiency. So what is it about hydraulic power steering that actually makes it more appealing? By which I mean how do they achieve this. I have no question eventually they will make electric power steering as sporty as hydraulic. Its still developing.
Elaborate on how and where you tested the XTS
love everything about this except the piano black finish all over, the fingerprints it tracks is freighting! but nothing a microfiber can't clean up...
Cadillac is coming out with a car that will compete with the S class and 7 series in 2014 it said its interior will be that of a rolls royce
whats the difference between ats and xts?
I'll wait until they come out with the XTS-V! LOL
modern take on a classic american luxo barge. like it.
FWD/AWD is what's selling. Their last generation of cars was RWD and they didn't sell well because they were too expensive. These cars are priced to sell.
It seems like Cadillac is leaving alot on the table for this car. The 3.6L V6 is a great engine but I think it's not going to be the only engine option for this car in the near future. GM is developing a Twin-Turbo V6 and an 8-speed automatic that I think will eventually wind up in this car in the upcoming years throughout this car's lifespan.
So is a XTS V coming?
All that tech and hydraulic power steering? odd... I would like to know if GM made any advances in hydraulic power steering or is it just the same setup they've had.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Audi A6 Premium come with standard FWD? This XTS is FWD with AWD as an option (like the A6), and the standard engine here isn't low power (at 305 HP). I'd say the Audi A6's standard engine with only 211 HP is pretty low powered. As for the interface, can't speak to that. But do you see now why someone cross-shopping an A6 would look at the XTS? More is standard here.
People say that Cadillac has no quality. Fact Cadillacs platinum edition, which cost 60 grand, has alcantara headliner. Audi a8, which cost 80,000, has an option for alcantara headliner. This cost 1,500
wait for the XTS-V if they make one
Hello from Munich, the heartbeat of BMW... ;. ) the XTS is a giant step, but Cadillac needs a real high end car to be "standard of the world" again, i wonder why this lasts so long..! Of course a V8 hybrid is standard to reach this in the very near future, but it must be go beyond this, because its a Cadillac! Here in Germany we have a romantic picture of this cars: Cadillac and Lincoln, in the same range as Rolls Royce! Will it happen again? A US Car fan out of Munich, Oktoberfest City!
I respect the craftsmanship regardless of what it's made of, but I still think there's just too much brightwork on this car. I like the more subtle look of the non-Platinum trim levels.
Wow that looks like the jaguar XJL at least the back does big time
THE XTS is proof GM is adopting the German's "Same Sausage, Different Length" philosophy. This car really is no different than an AWD CTS. when the CTS is redesigned for 2014, CUE will dominate the inside roughly the same way.
You can also buy a Bentley, but the Cadillac is a great, beautiful luxury car that's at 60K loaded
