I want to point out that you can just use acetone or brake cleaner to clean off that exhaust pipe prior to running it.

I asked about a tranny flush while at the dealer yesterday, advisor said 8 speeds have a sealed transmission, no flush required. I'm not a mechanic, but man that didn't sound right lol Glad you posted this video.

Jesus! My dealership told me during an oil change that I should consider replacing the trans filter and gave me the price.

Did you have to level the truck at all or did you just let it sit as it naturally sits

I did the level check while mine was running and fluid went everywhere

If it's the 8 speed transmission with a pan that has ridges on it like this one then the filter is part of the pan 👍

So yours took 5 quats correct?

Yes you do the level check with the engine running.

After filling the fluid you have to play with the gears like ( P-R-N-D)? How long you gatta wait in between

Not long, the fluid moves pretty fast through the system. If you like you can count to 10 in each section. That should be plenty 👍

I watched another video that had a few more steps, which included holding the brake and shifting to reverse, then neutral, then drive, then back to reverse and then park while it was up to temp. Did you do this as well? Or is this not necessary?

Yes I shifted through gears a few times. Hold it for about 10 seconds in each selection 👍

Did mine last weekend and had no issues taking out drain plug with a ball head allen key or any of the torqx screws. Seems my exhaust was slightly forward a bit.

@@MattSmith-vl8zp Good question. I did not. I measured the fluid that came out and when filling it back up it took roughly the same amount. So I'm confident it didn't get overfilled or underfilled.

Man I sure appreciate this video and your responding to comments and questions. Our ‘15 ram has almost 156000 and believe never has been changed(drop and fill or flushed). Also have been told if you’re not sure then leave it alone. Sealed. I don’t trust that strategy. Would think at least drop and fill would be a good thing. And with fresh fluid. Your video certainly makes it tempting for even me to diy, but with cost of this particular fluid and pan/filter it’s also tempting to let dealer do it. Think I was quoted 300 and something. Do you think that’s somewhat reasonable?

I would double check what's included in that price. $300 from the dealer for a fluid and filter change seems pretty low. If that's really the price I would hop on that right away 👍

We have no apparent trans issue, so you see no problem with a drop and fill even we think has never been serviced with that mileage? Is it best to stay away from a flush? Thinking they don’t have to drop pan with just a flush, but wouldn’t won’t that to cause damage sucking thru tork converter

When you adding last two quarts did you keep the truck running?

My truck has 165k miles and probably never had a trans filter changed. Should I reuse the old oil? Heard that new fluid could be to slippery.

I have never heard that before. I wouldn't think that would be a problem. I would recommend replacing the fluid with new fluid as well 👍

You didnt lift the truck to get the trans pan level.

Questions please any body can help me . I have Ram 2014 4x4 V6 3.6L 8 speed doesn't have dipstick when I come to stop when the transmission hot there is a kick what is that please . I drove it every day

I’m also having the heating up problem when I’m stopped at a light if anyone happens to have an answer on that. Btw the “kick” your feeling I assume is when you go to pull away at a green light, is the drive shaft. Had that on mine I took it off and pulled the boot off and greased it up. The kick went away instantly.

You didn’t have to loosen the transmission mount bolts and raise the transmission?

No, once you grind down the allen to fit between the exhaust you're golden. The pan will slide out from underneath 👍. I suppose lifting the tranny would accomplish the same thing, getting an allen between the exhaust.

Yes, the truck must be running and transmission at the right temp for the final top off 👍

Why do you change the pan out? Where do you get a fluid pump, what was that?

Links to all the parts and tools are in the description. The filter is part of the pan and not replaceable separately.

You have to pump, there shouldn’t be a dipstick for transmission fluid on any newer vehicle

Normal transmission fluid is good for 30 - 60000 miles depending on hoe the truck was used.

Yes, the filter is built into the cover.

Only if you want to change the transmission filter. If you're not changing the filter then I would leave the pan on and just do a drain and refill 👍

The filter is not removable separately, it's part of the pan. That's why we installed a new pan to get a new filter. It's an interesting design.
