Thanks for this well-made, really helpful video. My 2011 F150 Lariat 3.5L V6 Ecoboost with 83K miles has redently displayed transmission-related problems and it looks like lead frame/OSS repair would be needed. When driven, gear gets stuck at either first or second gear... then after a few miles, and manipulating the gear from neutral, the transmission will run in the normal mode... i.e. no problem shifting. For now, the problem appears as intermittent. I hope the code P0720/P0722 appear when I bring it to the Ford dealership a few miles where I live. If not, I'd let the truck crawl to the dealership when the problem re-appears. I am the 2nd owner and I guess the vehicle is out of the recall warranty [150K mi and 10 years] No idea how much Ford will charge me for this repair. Or am I better off bringing the vehicle to a transmission shop[?] Any helpful ideas folks? I live in LA. Thanks.

One thing I did when my truck first started having the Lead Frame problem, I was notice my gear indicator light not on, so I knew if I turned my truck off, it wouldn’t start back for a while so I took the cover off the starter relay and would turn my switch in, and use the relay to start it. If you ever do find yourself on the side of the road or somewhere and truck won’t start. Good luck with your door lock!

I’m not sure exactly what part you’re talking about if you’re talking after the pan is back on of course that is just to clean everything off. If you’re talking about with the pan off I guess just to get the fluid off before I put the pan back on. thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day.

It’s definitely doable. If you have some good common sense can follow instructions and have a little mechanical knowledge, but I don’t know if I would try it. If you have never had a valve body out. but I definitely wouldn’t trust it for someone else to do if they are inexperienced.

Brought my 2012 f150 fx2 today to the shop throwing the same code. Not wanting to shift out of certain gears and suddenly downshifting to 1st while driving. Speedo stops working as well. Told the shop what code it is throwing and told them about the lead frame. They had it all day just to message me what code it threw and said I need a new transmission.

Wondering if you can verify I have an OSS and Lead Frame issue - 2013 F150 would not shift out of 1st. Then it just decided to shift to 3rd and stayed in 3rd until I shut off the truck. At the time only notice the airbag idiot light and that the mileage was missing (dashes only). Turned the truck off then on and fixed. Then it did it again, stayed in 1st then shifted to 3rd and had the airbag light, wrench, and check eng lights with no speedo and no mileage. After turning it off and on several times, the shifting worked, speedo worked but had the airbag and engine lights on. This just started yesterday. Nothing else happening.

@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 Just got back from Autozone and they scanned it and the code is P0720 OSS Sensor Circuit. I believe that sensor on a 2013 F150 is on the Lead Frame correct. Which means doing just what you did ? ? Or is there something else that needs to be looked at. I drove down to Autozone and had the check engine light on only. Everything else worked as it should. They did the code test, and now the check engine light is out and all other lights are normal. Everything working as it should for the drive back home. I suspect it will fail again. Question also is if you recommend changing the Lead Frame, is it really a recall option or is that just rumor? 2013 with 141,000 miles. I have read it's 10 years and 150,000 miles.

I think you’re on the right track with the lead frame, I would call your local Ford dealership and give them your Vin number and ask if there are open recalls for the PO 720 I believe there is one, would just have to call and see.

@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 Ok...will be doing that. If it turns out to be the issue and they tell me they can't get the part, are Dorman Lead Frames good to use? I know you used one in your video so I am suspecting yes but I just want to make sure. Seems searches for this part are coming up with Out Of Stock. I am trying to prepare for the case of - it's not a recall issue and they also can't get the part, meaning it's up to me to find one and get someone (if not me) to install it. Should I use the Dorman item or only OEM? I am concerned with supply chain issues and all that it might be a long time before one of these items (oem) would be available. Thank you for providing the video and chatting with me regarding this issue. Plan on posting what my outcome is after it's done. One other question - can just the Output Shaft Speed Sensor be replaced and not have to replace the entire Lead Frame? Can the speed sensor be taken out of the Lead Frame and replaced with new speed sensor and use the old Lead Frame? I have been under the impression that the speed sensor is built into the Lead Frame and not a part that can be removed. Can you tell me whether that is the case or not. 2013 F150 6cyl Turbo.

Had this exact issue a few weeks ago then the P0706/0707 codes and it wouldn’t crank. Found a transmission mechanic who had a lead frame in stock, Ford is back ordered. Had the lead frame replaced yesterday, today after I picked it up, had the same OSS issue within the first 30 minutes of driving. Would that be expected for some reason on a brand new lead frame w/ oss sensor? Maybe a missed step in the install? Saying the new sensor is faulty seems too convenient.

I was not around to see a new lead frame unboxed or installed. It’s a fairly reputable local shop so I’d tend to trust them… exact same issue as your video, seems to happen in 5/6 gear. Goes away once the truck is turned off then on again. Any low hanging fruit on the wiring side? I’ll obviously take it back to the shop but for peace of mind could I run some pinpoint tests with an auto scanner?

Honestly, this sounds like either a faulty part(which could be the case) or it was in stock because it was actually just a replacement of the original designed Leadframe without the extra measures in place to stop this from happening (small foam insert that surrounds the solenoid connectors) If the speed sensor is truly faulty, then yes it can display symptoms of a faulty Leadframe. But if that foam insert is missing, then the small metal particles within the trans when driving is known to find it's way to those solenoid connectors and short them out.
