2011 TOYOTA PRIUS EGR VALVE AND COOLER REPLACEMENT

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Also one thing I didn't mention you will have to bleed the coolant, bleed valve goes on top of or near the top of the egr valve.

We cut a slot in the bolt of death bracket on the cooler assembly so you can slide over that bolt instead of having to remove it. It works great, and it took 2 min to modify.

You have to also pull your intake and clean the 4 egr inlet holes that flow into the intake really good... You can instal brand new egr valve and cooler but if those 4 holes are blocked car will still not run correct

Thanks for the very clear video. Yours is the only one that recommend to disconnect the battery. However, can you go a bit more in depth about the high voltage disconnect procedure? I’m a bit confusion as you said disconnect it but wonder if disconnecting the 12v battery is enough? Also, when reconnecting battery (12v and high votage), will there be any error code after? Should there be any caution before disconnecting them batteries?

The whole car's controls are from the 12V battery, If you disconnect it , everything stops. For this job, you do not really need to disconnect the battery. It is very common for this EGR line to have carbon build up. Cleaning it regularly every 100k miles for normal driving should be fine. Most of the time, they do not go bad, just get dirty. You can clean it with Brake cleaner of just pressure washer if you have it. The 4th gen Prius or Corolla 2019 hybrid has updated design, the EGR is after the catalytic converter that should reduce the amount of the carbon build up. For Auris 2 and Prius 3rd gen, this cleaning is kind of maintenance every 100k miles or 150k KM.

@@rondhole thank you so much for clearing it up. Working around those big orange cable really makes me nervous, hence the question regarding disconecting 12v is enough. Mine is 1255xx miles, just got it used and I dont think egr pipe/cooler assembly were ever cleaned. Thank you again. I’m going ahead and do this item along with cleaning intake manifold and both coolant drain and refill.

I know I'm late to the show, but the high voltage cutoff is an orange clip under the back seat. You have to take out the plastic tray covering the spare tire. There are many videos walking you through the process. I highly recommend pulling that clip any time you are working on this car. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the video. I struggled with getting that bolt of death off today and never did. The tip to get more room with unclipping the orange cables will make a huge difference. I managed to get it off once before and I'm mad at myself for putting it back on as I feel it isn't needed either. That dang unit isn't going anywhere. Why did you have to remove the stud though? The EGR cooler will slide off even with the stud in place won't it?

Thanks for watching really appreciate it. The reason why I took the studs off is because, the studs go in through side and I was taking the EGR VALVE off towards front of the car with the studs being there cant pull it towards front of the car. I hope am making sense. That's the reason why I took the studs off

  • @jimsgaragetoys

@@TEAMR4ULTV That makes sense. I was trying to remember what I did the first time and I think I removed the studs from the back of the EGR cooler so I could pull it off sideways. I'm going to get good at this as I would like to clean the parts every 50k miles. I have an extra EGR cooler and EGR valve so I can quickly swap them and take my time cleaning the parts. Thanks for the reply.
