@QPHashSS77 no, but lack of musicality and expression, on top of very basic choreography, to me that's lack of artistry. I don’t care how much you weight, or the style of your routine ( classical, modern, or something like margzetta frazier last year ncaa, all work for me). Ballet training helps with carriage ( stand straight, low shoulders, arm placement, toepoint...) and musicality, which is why I enjoy a lot of routines from gymnasts with ballet background, that's all.

@QPHashSS77 routines without any complex choreo movements. All basic and easy poses. It's actually required to show some difficult or complex dance that aligns with the music in the routines. An example would be like 2012 Afanaseyva, the choreo between 3rd and forth pass, 2012 grishina everything, morgan hurd 2017 with her dance walking out with her fingers, Simon's roundoff half to butt bounce, things more complex than posing and on que with music and showing the connection and expression.

Trey Artemov commentators are correct as a dance teacher there was no artistry. Do you know what artistry is? She did a good job of the routine is general but she was boring. When you use that type of music you have to sell it going through the motions no matter how clean will not get you the marks. Look at Mustafina even though her music was a bit slower her whole body language and complete uplift in her body and every arm movement had a purpose it wasn't this is what I was told to do it was look what I can do. Other then the artistry the commentators thought she did a great job. Artistry comes with practice and confidence.

@@cyrielle_ Russia could have still won gold in 2012 if they hit (even with Aliya's injury, they needed to do their best to not screw up and they would've come on top). Aliya in her prime would have battled it out for gold with Komova and Douglas. The gymnasts on the podium would have been the same but the order might have been different. When it comes to the team, it's amazing that 4 gymnasts out of 5 have competed great Amanars, so I can't imagine how ahead in terms of scoring potential the 2012 no-injury-no-headcasing team would be.

@@Ian.D. Russia would have need their absolute best performance to win over USA in 2012. With Aliya and Vika still recovering their injuries and Afanasyeva and Grishina injured in London ( Afanasyeva had a stress fracture on her leg and Grishina had huge strapping/bandage from feet to calf), Paseka barely putting the Amanar to her feet and Grishina refusing to do beam where she was needed... If both teams hit to their max capabilities, I believe USA would have won. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the Russian team by far, they were brilliant and it pains me when they're more remembered for their mistakes than for what they brought to modern gymnastics ( the Amanar game-changing, the Russian UB composition, the super high difficulty balanced with beautiful choreography and hard dance elements, the presentation...).

What I find more interesting is how an AA competition of Weiber-Mustafina-Doublas-Komova at their prime would fare. And a US team with Rebecca Bross instead of Kyla Ross...

  • @cyrielle_

@@Ian.D. Kyla Ross had a higher D-score and better execution than Rebecca Bross on UB, and was more solid on BB... A peak Nastia on UB + BB would have made more sense than peak Rebecca Bross. At this point USA didn't need another good AAer, they needed a strong UB and solid BB.... The same way that Paseka appeared in 2012 because Nabieva wasn't able to restore her so-needed Amanar. With Nabieva out, they needed another strong UB which brought Grishina ( who was 2010 junior European championship on UB, beating a hit routine from Komova), who was also lovely on BB and floor. Sadly Dementyeva wasn't the best option for a 5 members team.

They were harsh here especially towards Mattie. And Mustafina’s vault was not perfect form as Elfi said. Although if Mustafina has looked like this for London Gabby wouldn’t have won the AA.

The Amanar was a rare vault at the time, and Aliya's wasn't perfect but she had a really good block. She was also the it-girl that year so the hype was understanding. Let's not forget she won gold in TF+ AA, and silver on vault /UB/floor and would have medaled on BB too if not her fall in event final, as a 1st year senior. Also, this was not a live broadcast, so nbc had to emphasise why Russia won over USA, even with 3 Russian falls.

Jeessus Murrican and a canadian (murrican) judging artistry... Artistic gymnastics deserves better than this such low level of artistry expertise... Diana's routine is one of the most artistic/ well choreodesigned in this competition. From another and superior league than 99% of american gymnasts. So bad to hear this idiocy... ,_,
