It's because the Focus is actually from Ford Europe, so it's really european. It's the same as Honda having a different version of the Civic for Europe, the US and Asia to the point that each uses a different chassis underneath with only the Civic name and maybe the engines shared between them.

Sorry for my english. But this car is not made in Sweden, is different to have brand Volvo 5 cyl engine. to be made in that place. This car is manufactured in Germany by Ford Europe, and the best to the RS and the ST came to Mexico and we enjoyed a good car... greetings.

I think this is arguably even better than the Focus RS we did eventually get in the states. Love hearing a 5 pot sing.

This in my opinion is the best looking RS coupe and it's a shame that Americans didn't get the chance to own these cars.

The engine is not based on a Volvo engine, it is a Volvo engine. This car was developed by Volvo here in gothenburg, along side with the rest of the car. It is a Volvo with a Ford body! "Ford did an amazing job" what a F*cking joke, this Ford guy does not even know what the f*ck he is talking about, so typical American!

The engine is Volvo, the rest of the car is Ford. It just so happens that Volvo used the Focus mk2 chassis in their cars, the S40 for instance. But it was Ford who developed the chassis, it's very, very similar to the mk1 Focus'.

420 always has meaning!

These cars are awesome!! Most people don't realize or appreciate all the technology and technicalities that go into building something like this.

One of my favorite cars ever built, such a sweet ride.

I had a RS500 that was 345bhp and I had it played about with got another 30 and would top out on the autobahn at 160 restricted..loved it until it got stolen...

Honestly there isn't much I wouldn't do to get a Focus RS stateside and street legal.

Yup, my brother has one in Mexico. They did brought them to mexico but not to the USA I don't know why. But The new 2015/16 Ford Focus RS will now be available in the US, and the cool thing about it is that it will be AWD..

Good choice on the seats. I worked for Keiper-Recaro for a few years, and spent 5 years testing seat components in the test lab. The Recaro seat is one of if not the best seats for safety. I couldn't break the frame (usually the recliners fail)... the static pull machine just yanked it off the seat tracks, which did fail. Let's put it this way: In a wreck, the last thing you want is for the seat to come unglued under you. Most common failure is at the pivot point (recliner/recliner or recliner/hinge arrangement). The taumel gears in the dual recliners in the Recaros are stronger than any other type recliners I maliciously pull tested. The worst seats I came across were... well let's just say they came in one of those big '90-ish (government men in black drive them)... the buckets with that corduroy fabric that came in 3 colors, light blue, silver, and gold. The seat frame got it's nickname in house, when "Dirty Harry," the old engineer and I, discussed it. We called it the "Lawn Chair." It was all foam around spindly tubular framing. Compare that to the Recaro... and if I were to drive that Focus, I'd be glad it has those seats.

The U.S is partly to 'thank' for that. The new Focus RS is a 'world car' and designed to appeal more to the masses. So while this old Focus RS gets away with the lairy aggressive bodykit perfect for the European market it was aimed at, the new one is much more subdued to try and have a wider appeal.

Hardly, I'd trade the extra 70hp for AWD any day of the week. But to be fair, this came with 305hp stock, so the new one has 45 more HP and comes with all wheel drive, launch control, adjustable suspension, adjustable exhaust, 4 drive modes, electronic rear torque distribution, brembo brakes, forged wheels, track tires, and it's 6 years newer. I guess this one has the green paint and a black stripe, along with the custom 420 badge, those things are kinda "cool".

I would much rather have the Volvo 5 Cylinder turbo diesel too...

I think I'd shit my pants if i saw an RS just cruising around on American roads... I'm all for big V8 RWD cars but as far as hot hatches go, it doesnt get much better than the RS and its still an awesomely powerful Ford. I dont get why so many people are hating on FWD.

because realistically you can do a lot more in RWD, and besides RWD is just more fun overall, FWD is more for like the commuter type (btw i own both RWD and FWD) so i can speak from experience

I used to change my hot hatches every couple of years but I've had my rs for 7 years now so that tells me how good they are

420 hp. perfect color.

The way he talks about cars and can explain how something works in a simple way makes me believe he has a considerable knowledge of vehicles and how they work. That and he does not have many shop staff because he likes working on vehicle himself.

The Volvo Inline-5 is an absolutely bulletproof engine. They are incredibly strong and Volvo have been building I-5's for over 20 years. You don't do that if the design isn't durable. I had one in C30 T5 and it's a great engine.

When it's 25 years old, you can legally import one to the US. In Canada it's 15 years.

They debuted the Focus RS AWD for the world (including the US) today (2/3/15).

So if im correct This car can't come to canada because of it's horsepower?

They have been around for awhile . The ones coming to America in 2016 will be nice and will be easy to tune

Ivo Radev Actually, about 50% of WRX sales were for the hatch version...Subie says they ran out of the money needed to spring for a hatch version. Subaru has their heads up their asses right now...I've owned a WRX hatch and an EasyStreet Motorsports Stage-4 WRX hatch...and I'm on the preorder list for the 2016 Focus RS. Brand loyalty can only go so far.

RetiredDP Ah nice to hear something from an owner. I must say I have been confused by the looks of the Impreza hatch. Probably because of all the years of the sedan and it's rally years, but again, it wasn't a beautiful hatch anyway, while the sedan looked alright. Congratz on the new RS, by all the info we have until now (which is not that much) it looks that it will be what RS fans (me inclusive) were expecting from the previous RS. I am German but live in Greece now, so that's why I will wait ;) I am pretty sure that within the first year there will be enough cars for resale (I know sounds bad, but crisis has it's gimmicks ;) )

+1400VID Because of sales, majority of customers bought Impreza sedans over the Impreza hatch and when they had a full year with both STI hatch & sedan, the sedan out sold the hatch. It's also about suspension and aero. The sedan was more aerodynamic and longer wheel base so it was more stable.

The sedan also has MUCH less utility, and doesn't do as well in Autocross. The added weight over the rear tires in the hatch helped diminish the massive understeer the WRX has always had when pressed.

Always wanted one of these!! Everyone had the Gallardo poster as a kid (in my generation) I had one of these on my wall. Knew nothing about cars but wanted this rs more than anything. It wasn't till I was maybe 13-15 that I realized these are not available in the U.S 😣

Can't wait to see the new RS.

The front end of the RS is spot on, but the rear ruins it. Hopefully the US version will be revised. With a couple exterior tweaks, Im a buyer for sure.

Quaife makes some amazing stuff I have a Quaife diff in my 800+ hp evo 8 and it just accepts the horsepower and torque VERY well.

If it were AWD It'd be Perfect IMO.

nope, emissions laws are actually more stringent in the UK. Ford most likely came to the conclusion that this model would not do well or may compete with the mustang.

They handle so well and are fun to drive like a go cart 😂😂😂

I worked as a mechanic in Ford for 3 years and 6 months here in Italy, and I had on my lifter a couple of these engines, one of them was a Focus RS 2010 and I drove it! Such a Mazda RX8 as well. in Europe the same 5 cylinder volvo engine (less HP) is mounted on the Ford Mondeo. we had one costumer that bought one of it and had a couple of trouble for (I think) don't know how to drive it. I owned for a period a '07 Focus 1.6 diesel 90Cv and now I've got my '02 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi 115Ps 250.000 Km

I think you may be correct. To get to 420, it would need bigger CC injectors and the CAS intake, which flows better than the mountune "top piece" intake. Further more, you would need to be going down the route of upgrading the turbo once you get past the 400 mark. It could however have the MR375 map in it (look it up on mountune's website).

How do we Americans get this Euro made American car. I feel like we are given the Brits and such what is ours. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Eric Van Der Beek Diesel doesn't sell so well in the US because the cost of diesel is more than that of premium unleaded fuel so the fuel savings aren't realized over something like a hybrid gasoline-electric vehicle. And the main reason why small, hot hatches don't sell so well is because they're in a budget segment of the market yet cost $30k+ with the same or even less refinement of similar budget segment vehicles. The perceived value isn't good and many prefer bigger vehicles, anyways.

Elvis Layton I get what your talking about! cause here in Australia we have the Ford Falcon and as far as I know the only place it was sold outside of Aus was in south africa in the 90's and now its no longer sold anywhere else in the world and soon to be not sold at all! Wonder why they never sold them in the Uk and Usa

So the RS is compared to a shark, the ST is compared to a dolphin, does that mean the regular Focus is a gold fish? Haha

It gives the 5.0 a hell of a run for its money also!!!

the 2010 model rs is so beautiful and the 5 cylinder turbo is a masterpiece too bad we have to wait until 2035 to drive this as a classic in the U.S
