The Mk1 will always be my favorite. It just looked exactly like the rally car Ford had at the time, and had real performance parts. Brembo, Sparco, Quaife, Garrett, O.Z, it felt like a real homologation special.

I'm from Australia, see mk3's basically everyday, see a mk2 a few times per year, and never seen a mk1 here. There are 2 that have been privately imported into the country that I know of. When I went to the UK in 2017 I almost shat myself when I saw my first ever mk1 the day I was due to head back home. I thought I'd never see one. Looks even better in real life. I have a white mk2 and love it. Dream car.

Car Focused I do, I had the Ultimate Green Lux2 and she was a beast. Other than a k&n filter totally standard. But it just turned heads everywhere I went. That’s the trouble with the MK3 going global, Ford had to tame it down for mass appeal which was ridicules.

Great video, I watched the entire thing. Respect and appreciation for all 3 cars. An important thing to consider is that they were made in different times, obviously, how good were they for those times ? The Mk2 RS was almost the best hot hatch you could get, imo that honour goes to the Megane RS, a dynamically brilliant car, but with ridiculous power for fwd and very decent handling the Focus was epic. Though I’ve never driven a Mk1 RS, I’ve driven RS MK2’s and MK3’s in all sorts of tune stages, I’ve owned an XR5 and a now own a Fiesta ST both Mountune tuned, so I have a bit of experience with these Fords as well as other cars and especially Alfa Romeo, my real passion ... so with that said, the Mk2 RS just feels special, it’s that simple, the 5 cyl motor is a pure gem and masterpiece from Volvo and always has been, the way we have gone with emissions etc we will never see anything like it again and I am now on the look out for one to tuck away. It really feels like you are driving an exotic and looks the part, almost like a group b rally car, IMO easily “the best” car ! Cheers

Great video gents, always good to see these three together! One point from me though, as a long-term Mk2 (completely standard) RS owner, I think the standard car is just right as it is, no need whatsoever to mod it, it is such a capable car as is. Don't quote me on this, but I think the new Mk3 RS is actually heavier than the Mk2, your comments in the video seem to suggest it's the other way round. Anyway, good video, thanks!

Thanks for doing this mate was a great video and I didn’t notice 47 minutes as it was exciting ! I’ve owned a Mk1 FRS and 2 Mk3’s as you know and I still own a 400hp mk2 ST I agree the MK1 is unhinged and you need to be careful but that’s what made it exciting mine was 280hp and for me just right. The mk2 ST is a power house and suffered in corners as you say. The MK3 even though I had many problems with both of mine was still a fantastic car, so honed for a drivers car and planted, for me a little boring in stock form but I never got to do mods.... lol but when driven hard hands down the best hot hatch out there today. I have the MK7.5 golf R with 420hp now and this thing is way faster than a stock RS MK3 and probably a lightly tuned one too but the handling is washed out still good but not razor sharp like the Mk3 RS. One day I’ll be back in another RS but probably a MK2 lol. Any way great vid fella you put it across very well and you have a very lucky and great friend there 🙂

@Car Focused another great video. Totally agree with you're verdict. Me owning the Mk3 with the same DreamScience as you and a Mk2 with a Bluefin stage 1 tune. The Mk2 feels more brutal and more of an event when driving. I only have a stock exhaust so do miss the pops and raw sound of the 5 pot. Only thing I would disagree with is the firmness of the ride in the Mk2. I have Eibechs in the Mk2 with stock shocks and for some reason it feels harsher than the Mk3. Like the Mk3 firm setting imo. And yes for all the modern tech in the Mk3, it's a car I could probably sell. But I couldn't part with the Mk2 even though I'm almost 60 now and owned the Mk2 from new. Am I still just a boy inside? Thanks for including the Mk1 in that line up. Always wanted to know how they compared. BTW I'm so tempted for that DSC controller.

The Mk. 1 looked like a souped up Focus and the original body shape was very marmite. The Mk. 2 nailed the rally-inspired exterior, delicious 5-pot engine sound and its utterly bonkers attitude. Mk. 3 is failure-prone, toned down for homogenisation and sounds crap even with aftermarket exhausts. I've driven the Mk. 3 various times (including on stunt courses) and it's a lot of car and a lot of fun with some nice tricks up its sleeve. However, some drive-bys and a couple of passenger rides in a Mk. 2 was all it took to convine me that the Mk. 2 is the best RS to date.

Love the mk2 because it looks and sounds amazing.Love the mk3 for its handling ability 🏁🏎💨 To be honest don’t care if the interiors are out dated as long as they have power and performance mate, pure unique character 🍻 To Get the most out of the mk 1 and 2 you have to be a good driver.I agree that the mk3 makes you look and feel a better driver. My TTs is the same.I only lose traction in mine when I really push it in the rain mate.

Great video ! I’d also take all 3 ! I love the mk1 that’s how I fell in love with the rs.. the mk2 is a monster a real brute... and the mk3 is my favourite obviously because I’ve got one 👍🏻 but I had a race with my friends mk2 and I left it for dead 😳 I think it’s the sound that makes it feel faster 👍🏻😁💙

@@michaelhesford5191 if both are stock the mk2 and 3 are very close on a rolling start. Only 2mph top end remember. The mk3 is way better in the bends and off the line but your right the sound does make the mk2 feel faster than it really is

Great video. So in conclusion, in stock form..... The rs got better with each generation in general. Certainly in the way that it dtives. The way a car looks is subjective. I loved the mk2 looks when it cane out, and still do. But back then i was in my 20s, and now im in my 30s, so for me right now id feel a bit stupid in a car that looked like that. So id have to score the mk3 cor looks because its for ME. And i wouldn't have bought a two door car with my kid now, so the extra doors were paramount. Some people oldet than me obviously feel ok driving big arches, vents etc so thats ok too, each to their own. But had the mk3 looked like a newer mk2 i couldn't have bought it.

khf jvc Well...I’m 46, and have no issues driving a Mk2, and mine is green! I think any RS needs to be a bit shouty, look at the whale tail spoilers on the Cosworths. I do only use mine as a 2nd weekend, dry weather car though. What really sells the Mk2 for me is that 5 cylinder engine. Great video though, I would love all 3...if I had the space to keep them.

Thank you for a really interesting video. Mk1 is my favourite, and I am certainly no ford fan. I just think it is the best looking. Mk2 looks too chavvy, as if some 15 yr old has styled it after being given a Halfords £500 gift card. They were a bit lame and cheap. The Mk3 is just ok, just a bit boring, although a very good handling car as standard. I'd be slightly worried about the amount of blue smoke coming out the back of the Mk1 when revving it. Not as worried as blowing up the Mk3 engine though lol ! That Mk3 would probably gap me on every corner, in my own car (m140i), unless I spent some serious money on a diff and suspension. But with 455bhp/634nm I'd leave it as a tiny speck in my mirror on the straights.

I have actually, both on track and on the road. It's a fun car for sure and mid-corner grip in tightening off-camber corners is for sure higher than in the mk2. Still enjoyed my mk2 a bit more, it's so raw it almost feels like a touring car with air con. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eXp8z5Wql8SfkqQ.html on proper tyres and coilovers they are absolute weapons also on track as this video shows. I also think you were too harsh when you said it was and is not a good car as standard. The mk2 RS was described by both Jason Plato and Autocars Steve Sutcliffe as the best hot hatch ever made. Not too shabby.
