2010 Chevrolet Malibu Start up issue Ignition key cyclinder replacement

A tutorial to guide you through replacing your Chevrolet Malibu ignition cylinder. The vehicle I am working on is a 2010, but this will most like be the same method for models close in year to 2010.
The vehicle has been causing trouble with starting up at random instances. It seems like it has a mind of it's own. After replacing the cylinder, the vehicle did cause the same issue once again. The temperatures are really low so I will wait it out to see if the cold is causing the problem which is likely since the days I have encountered the problem were the coldest days here in Saskatoon (-40 degrees).

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. The dealership wanted $400+ to swap this out. They were quoting this as a 2.5 hour task.

Your welcome. I also suggest watching my other video for the same vehicle. The cylinder replacement didn't fix my no start problem.

Thank you for this video. I had a problem where I could not turn the key all the way to the off position so the accessories would not shut off and the battery would drain. I bought a new key cylinder and that didn't fix it so I bought a new ignition switch and that didn't fix it either. It turned out to be the Chevrolet Malibu Shift Interlock Solenoid. I replaced that and everything worked again. it was a 2003 car with over 200,000 miles.

after reading your comment halfway through I realized it had to be the shifter because I can't tell you how many times I've tried to turn off the car without it being in park lol hahaha

Greg Deachan there is a small round hole at the top and you have to stick a needle in there and push down the ball that is holding it in.

You need to state that you don't have to reprogram the key if your relying the original key.

This is NOT too much information. Not everyone has the same skill level. I am not mechanically inclined myself, so I appreciate all the extra details.
