Oh thank god i had no idea how to get that first wire out. I was trying to do it at the junk yard and of coarse they dont have keys i never would have got it out.

This might help if you show how to get the switch out and the covers

I finally got the cable into the ignition switch. Once put the cylinder inside my key gets stuck again. It only gets stuck when I insert that cable.

Im working on a 2008 non classic .i tried to reach that third ignition switch screw but failed.im going to try to remove the radio,cluster and unbolt the dash now.

What if the key won't turn to tye on position? Please help

How can you remove the lock cylinder, if the key wont turn? My key won't after towing on a tow dolly that wont pivot. I think it broke the steering wheel lock.

Yikes, had half the key break off into the cylinder. Car will still start using the other half of the key but its annoying and beeps whenever I have the door open. Sucks to hear its such a pain to get to but thanks for the advice!

Confirmed that this does apply to 04 Malibu. Watch the whole video before starting to take things apart, as the info about 3 different screws is pertinent.

@@WestGAGuy what was your issue? I'm having a parasitic draw somewhere and thought maybe it my ignition switch might be shot as when it doesnt click over it turns the radio on even with the door open and the keys out.

I'm about to perform the repair myself. Some symptoms were there was an error message coming up by where the mileage is at in the dash, no crank no start, where the radio is at it was reading a power steering failure, if you do get it started there is no acceleration when it is idling, and the check engine light disappeared. After I put the switch in I will reply again

The video was helpful but there was too much pausing while he was talking, and I think he should have mentioned the reason why he was replacing the ignition switch along with the signs and symptoms for needing the replacement, and if it requires reprogramming after you install the new ignition switch. Plus there was a lot of unnecessary talking about two different types of screws that you will encounter when replacing the ignition switch. That kind of stuff is self-explanatory in my opinion.

I was hoping to see how the cover/indicator comes off. I didn’t want to break it. You told everything but that. Too much repetition. I get it after the second time you say something. No need to repeat yourself so much.
