@@myopinion1845 Agreed ..they won their games in the tournament by over 20 pts.per game..and was tied or trailed for only 4 minutes and 55 seconds for the entire tournament..Lawson and Tyler were the two best players in that Final Four.

I have been a Carolina fan my whole life. Saw disappointing Championships losses in 77 & 81. But then here comes Jordan, He elevated the Tarheel program, winning in 82 & then being college POY in 83 & 84. There have been many great UNC teams but IMO the 2009 National Championship team was their best overall.

Better than 2005?

The thing is, this MSU team was awesome. Watch their games against Louisville and UConn. Great D and team offense. UNC was just in another world in 2009. They had 4 years to mature and learned how to handle the Final Four the hard way when they got crushed by Kansas the year before. They were a team with something to prove and they dominated the whole tourney start to finish.

The most dominant tournament run in the history of the NCAAT. Won EVERY SINGLE GAME by double digits and made it look incredibly easy along the way. What a team that 2009 group was. The most dominant ACC team I've ever seen.

I am a KU fan and always knew when Roy left to his alma mater that he would win multiple titles because A.) He is probably the best head coach any top tier team could want. B.) Because the ACC is the best conference in the nation. I thought UNC would beat KU in 2008, but KU just played out of their minds, and UNC still managed to close the 28 point gap that Kansas scorched out to. 2009 was pure dominance. I have great respect for your program and can thank Dean smith for placing Roy at KU,

In many ways this team is the best I've ever seen at UNC. My brother and I have been watching the Heels for 40 yrs and at times during this game we were in awe. There were at least a few possessions where they were almost perfect, and it's true that Michigan (or any other team I can think of) really didn't stand a chance.

I miss this team. This team was my favorite group so far no other Carolina team come close.

Almost brings tears to my eyes. I watched this game in the Dean Dome and means a lot to everyone on that campus.

That 2008 Kansas team and 2009 UNC are the most complete National Champions in recent college basketball era..A KU fan who has much respect for UNC..

Michigan State's coach Tom Izzo said at the start of that season that North Carolina was almost like a NBA team. UNC was so dominant that year.

6 NBA players on that team: Green, Ellington, Lawson, Hansbrough, Davis, Zeller. 7 if you count Larry Drew II, who only played a few games in the league. Deon Thompson is an all-star in Europe too. One of the most stacked teams ever.

I remember watching this as a Tar Heel fan I was still nervous in the first half even as we absolutely blitzed them I feared a miraculous comeback by MSU.

so your logic is recruits are required to stay instate or they're traitors? that's the stupidest shit I've ever heard. Kids want to go where they feel the most comfortable, not stay at home to please jerkass instate fans that turn on them the moment they leave the state. Furthermore, the SEC and ACC weak? LMAO You're out of your mind. Both conferences shit on the PAC12 and B1G. If they're so superior, how come neither conference has won a title since 2000? No, it's not because of these top guys going east, It's because the teams are always ass and lose before they even get to the Final Four to some lower seeded team. Every year the B1G puts in nearly 10 teams and 7 of them lose before the first 2 rounds are even over. If I was a top recruit out west, I wouldn't want to stay west past Kansas either and watch my draft stock plummets to nonexistent levels.

When LeBron left I wished him the best and hoped that he'd keep losing to my Spurs, like any rational fan with common sense would have done. And I was hoping he'd never go back to that town full of self absorbed cunts that decided to burn his Jersey for doing what was best for HIM. I still wish he hadn't gone back. That's because they were beaten at halftime. The game was over. It was over actually before the game started. Michigan State couldn't live down that drubbing they took at the Pontiac Dome earlier in the season

globalicon2012 lmao I grew up in New England and have always been a fan of UNC, ever think they wanted to play for one of the top 3 programs in the nation not only for the spotlight for a potential NBA career, and the fact they grew up fans of UNC🤔🙄

Wayne Ellington was a 1ST ROUND PICK & He can certainly shoot the ball!

Tyler Hansbrough carried this squad throught out the season and tournament.They are a powerhouse blue blood team.North Carolina had just won a title in the 2004-05 season so I wasn't surprised that the Tarheels won this one.And I don't like North Carolina but I have to respect thier basketball program that sent players to the NBA like Michael Jordan,Vince Carter, and Eric Montross.

Best team this century. No doubt about it.

As a UNC fan I respect Michigan St, Indiana, Kansas, etc... Now Duke and Kentucky are different. Their fans are so full of themselves that you can't help but to root against them.

The aircraft game was a couple years later. They played in that 2009 regular season at Ford Field too. Carolina won by a lot

Wolverinefan, on paper this looks like the best team ever. Danny Green had the most wins in UNC history. Hansbrough had tons of records and he + Ellington were the highest scoring UNC duo ever. The 1/2-time score and lead in this game were the highest ever, and Lawson had a record number of steals. The '05 team played great through their last tournament, but for the whole 4 years (esp. bc so many jr's came back in 08) these guys get my nod for best ever. If they played, '09 gets my vote :).

Im a Maryland fan but i can definitely say i like UNC WAY more than Duke. I don't like em but i would rather see them win than Duke. This UNC team had all the pieces the 3 ball, inside game, and great court generalship by Lawson. Great team no doubt! At least my Terps got em in the regular season!

@qukarlz 1990 championship final: UNLV 103, Duke 73. I guess as far as last blowout it would be that, but the biggest was definitely vegas.

The '10 Heels are struggling bad, it's true. My buddy suggests the problem is they have no senior leader. They have Ginyard, but he's not really leading, and they can't find anyone else to do the job - which leaves them floundering up and down each week :(.

@tlight26berry Which is a remarkable record. Regardless how bad a team is...it seems like they would have beaten us at least once in those 25-27 or so years. Could you imagine building an arena in the early 80's and have your in-state rival (no matter who they are) BE UNDEFEATED THERE? It is a record that really shows the dominance of the Larry Brown/Roy Williams/and current Bill Self era at Kansas.

Just in a few days ago. Williams has managed to hook PJ Hairston, Joshua Hairston's (DOOK recruit) brother. That should be fun.

@dgoss90 It was the 1989-1990 season, minor detail. I agree, UNLV was the best in the last 25 years. However, I think there were several teams better than '90 UNLV before 1985.

This was one of the most dominant NCAA tournament runs in history winning by an AVERAGE!!!! of 20 points per game. No team that year in college basketball was even close to being on par with them.

With Zeller already there, Henson coming in, and if Davis, Lawson, and Ellington had stayed, we would have won in 2010 as well.

If everyone comes back, like they should I do believe next year they could be on par. What the current team lacks is the killer instinct that these guys had, this current Carolina team gets up 20 and then just kinda stops. In 09 they just constantly drove it down people's throats. Even if they some how pull it off this year everyone should stay imo, after last night Barnes proved he isnt ready for the NBA. Henson I think still needs more strength and Marshall needs to break more records :)

I am a Tar heel fan all the way, but I do give respect to Michigan State they seem good ever year. Cant say the same for Duke, just saying Duke makes me want to vomit! Also watching so many games over the years what we did in 08-09 really sticks out. They had to be the best team in many years, they were talented and didnt care who made the baskets just cared that they won. If you remember going into that game all the comentaters said MSU was going to win. Thays was crazy we won every game by 20.

This was UNC most decisive title win. In all the 5 Championships that UNC has won there were very close games. 1957: I believe was 3 overtimes to decide. 1982: MJ game winning shot and Fred Brown's turnover. 1993: Webber's time out 2005: The game was tied in the final 2 minutes until Marvin Williams put back.

villanova was a sleeper in that tourny, i had them going to the final four that year, with unc winning it all obviously bc of their monster lineup, but nova was a 3 seed. how do you call that overacheiving? is what uconn did last year overachieving? or how bout the butler team of the past two years? think those are flukes. i love the heels man, but give some love to my boys in philly. nova deserves respect, especially that year
