    Thank you for the video, very informative and instructional, the AMOUNT OF DETAIL you verbally explained along with the video angles was PERFECT! I was able to do this entire job on a 2008 Jeep Patriot 4WD (with a lot of rust from road salt) in about 4 hours, no special tools with the vehicle on floor jacks. YOU DID A GREAT JOB THANK YOU!!!

    THANK YOU. I just did this job on a 2009 compass in 40 min with hand tools because of you. Thank you for the great detail,especially the point about tightening the bolts with the full weight of the car on the ground.

    I appreciate the video! I'm a seasoned backyard mechanic (and Aircart technician), but always do my research before I fix something on my own vehicles, just in case there's something unusual about the job. I have to say, you are one the the most well spoken KZread mechanics out there. I've watched a LOT of them, and in the vast majority are the guys "Umm'ing and Uhh'ing" for half the video, lol.

    Hey man. I am a guy who loves to do his own work but is smart enough to know what my limitations are. I've been doing more and more work on my fiance's Jeep and my own Pathfinder (brakes, suspension, body work, etc) and I have to swap out her RL hub/bearing and the FL lower control arm - the latter of which is exhibiting precisely the same symptom you show in this video. Since I can't find a Haynes manual for her car, your video is PERFECT. Very useful and helpful information and I am extremely confident that I will have no trouble with this repair. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.

    Thanks for such a clear demonstration. My 2008 Patriot was klunky/noisy. Thought it was sway bar bushings and end links at first, but mechanic evaluated and said it was the control arms. The wiggle in the wheels with my car up on the hoist was evident. He changed them, and what a difference. Thanks, and saved.

    This is going to save me a lot of time trying to figure it out! My wife slid her 2009 into a ditch and mangled the arm. The half-shaft survived (thankfully) and the strut is... Iffy. But the inner tie rod end and the sway bar linkage bit it, too. $200 repair job, but thanks to your video, it looks like it's not going to be an all-day job.

    Thanks for the step by step as DIY saved me $$$. Firestone quoted me 900$ to install both. They were charging 299$ per side and 300$ labor. They were going to install moog rather than mopar. Rock auto had mopar for 125$ each side. The ball joint connection was a huge bitch to remove and I spent 45 minutes with a hammer and chisel to get it out. Otherwise, the install went smooth with no issues. Thanks again for the video!

    +Jeff Cruz Noises are one of the hardest things to determine. You have to go cave man on a noise lol. Its pushing....pulling....hitting things, trying to duplicate first the noise and then trying to isolate where and then find the item making the noise. I wish there was one thing I could tell you to look for but it could be a lot of things. Cant tell you how many times I have pulled the same car back in the shop trying to isolate a noise. Just behind the front tires at the body seam that runs from front to rear works best. Near the front it should be multiple layers wide for added strength. Many thanks for watching.

    I just completed the job on my 2008 Liberty and it came out great. Just like you showed us. One question tho..., I know the liberty is not big on sound proofing. I get knocking from the wheel wells when going over bumps and from turning. It seems to be coming from the steering. I rechecked my work (after alignment) and its tight like a drum. Have you run into this problem before?

    Nothing really common. Trying to duplicate and then isolate is the hard part. Otherwise it's trying to hear about where it's located and doing a good visual inspection. Wish I could say there is that one thing to check but not on this vehicle

    Just finished this today and wanted to say thanks. One question though: I found a 21mm works fine for the two bushing bolts. Is there a reason you called the bolt it a 13/16? does it have SAE threads? I thought we had a metricfication in automotive a long time ago. Thanks again.

    I am one of those guys that has both standard and metric sockets. Sometimes I just quickly grab what ever works lol. There are those times that the size is so close that it doesn't matter which you use....much like a 1/2 inch versus 13mm. Glad the video helped. Make sure to subscribe

    Can just the ball joint be replaced on a 2008 Jeep Compass without replacing the control arm?

    Hello John....to answer your question, yes you can replace just the ball joint. It will require s be joint press that you should be able to borrow from your local parts store using their loaner tool program. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe and help spread the word by sharing these videos with others.

    curiosity questions. so I am doing this currently on my wife's 2010. but just putting a new ball joint in the arm. when I was trying to get it out something started leaking near what I think is the transmission/axle. what may this be and is replacing just ball joint ok?

  • @MotorCityMechanic

    @MotorCityMechanic

    7 жыл бұрын

    Josh Nelson what may have happened is that you may have pulled the axle out of the trans which isn't a bad thing....you just need to seated it back into place to stop it. Double check it to see if that's the cause. Thanks for checking out the video and join the crew by subscribing!

    Only thing I can recommend is adding a pipe or long floor jack handle to the end of the breaker bar. This will give you more leverage. Otherwise there isnt much more I can recommend

    Hey! I came across your video looking for a solution to a creaking sound coming from the rear suspension system of my 2010 Jeep Patriot. Somebody told me that the problem might be the lower control arm bushings. What do you think? Have you done any videos about this problem? Thanks a bunch!

  • @MotorCityMechanic

    @MotorCityMechanic

    I havent had any issues with the rear. Its not a common issue in my part of the country/world. Noises can be hard to duplicate for sure so it will take trying to move the rear suspension up and down or side to side to try to get the noise to happen and then have someone try to isolate it at the same time by listening and narrowing down the location of the noise. Otherwise I dont have anything on that type of noise. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe

    What were the symptoms sound wise. What can we look for?

  • @MotorCityMechanic

    @MotorCityMechanic

    9 жыл бұрын

    George Medrano symptoms would be noise in the front end most notably when hitting the brakes for example. You might hear a clunk. Once in the air, you can grap the tire as if to check the suspension and steering components and find that the tire is moving about an inch

    Most vehicles can have the feature turned off or disabled. There is nothing you can cut or buzz you can rip out. What I recommend is the next time you visit the dealer....ask if they would please hook up the vehicle with the scanner and disable the feature. If you ask nicely they may not even charge. I know I dont but I cant speak for other shops/techs. There is a method to disable the enhanced belt reminder but I cant tell if its to turn the feature off completely or change the operation of it. If you email me at david@motorcitymechanic.com I can email you what I have and you can try to see what affect.
