2008 ALCS, Game 7: Red Sox @ Rays

Спорт

Boston Red Sox 1 at Tampa Bay Rays 3, F -- Akinori Iwamura stabbed Jed Lowrie's bad-hop grounder, had a moment of indecision about whether to flip the ball to shortstop Jason Bartlett, then he headed to second base. Once his foot touched down on the bag for the force out, the Rays were headed to the World Series, led by American League Championship Series MVP Matt Garza. A raucous celebration on and off the field followed saw Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg presented the William Harridge trophy for winning the American League pennant. Iwamura moved across the top of the Rays' dugout, slapping palms with fans, and most of the crowd of 40,473 remained in the building, still standing and cheering for their team.

MANCHESTER UNITED Also soccer is so plain. Just 22 players kicking the ball for 90 minutes & they sometimes end in 0-0 draws. How boring is that. Sometimes even after extra time they end 0-0. Now that’s a fucken boring sport with no offense at all. & on top of that, I feel bad for the players, they play frok August thru May with their club, & during the summer they play with their national teams. They get no real vacation playing that stupid ass sport. & also, soccer is so disorganized & confusing. So many cups & irreverent tournaments to keep up with.

I've been a Rays fan ever since 2004 when I started following baseball and watching that game was amazing! I'm going to continue to be a Rays fan no matter how good/bad. Let's go Rays!!!!! This was an amazing memorable experience. I was watching it on TV and cheered so loudly when the final out happened. They did lose the World Series, but I'd much rather lose the World Series than to lose 90+ games consistently.

Really ever since the name change from the Devil Rays and shortening it to the Rays it’s fueled them into a solid team. 12 years later they made it back to the World Series pushing the Dodgers to 6 games. Now they just got their first 100 win season even with all the controversies over Montreal, Tropicana Field, and overall relocation.

thegame346 actually, if you've been checking the recent attendance, the Lightning are actually having pretty decent attendance. Last season they were in the top 10, and finished 4th in the division. If a team like that can make the top 10, we can at least make more of a middle-of-the-pack type attendance if we move to Tampa.

You know what? 12 years later, I have come to realize that every team needs to have their moment. Unfortunately though the greatest moment in Tampa Bay came at the expense of the Boston Red Sox. That’s O. K., while the Rays had their big moment, the Red Sox had Four Big Moments of their own since Tampa Bay first came to Major League Baseball In 1998.

Tampa Bay used to be called the Devil Rays, and while they had that name were the WORST team in the AL, but suddenly when they decided to remove the word “Devil” everything instantly turned around. God obviously was blessing them for expelling the Devil that had haunted their club during its first 10 years.

Usually, seeing the Buccaneers on NBC Sunday Night Football is a great thing, but having their game vs. the Seahawks run concurrently with this game sucked for me because I had to give the Rays far more attention. It was game 7, after all. I hope the Rays and Red Sox meet in the playoffs for a 3rd time very soon so the Rays can end their season just like what happened in '08!

I'm throwing this out there, I posted that comment 3 months ago back when the rays and sox were tied for first, obviously I know we didn't pull it out, but I really couldn't give a shit. I love the Rays. I'm not like most red sox fans who live 500 miles form Boston, have never even set foot in Massachusetts, and like them just because they're successful. So any way congratulations to Boston, we'll see you next season, good luck in your world series run, I don't want you to win...but still
