2007 Lincoln MKZ: Review & Walk Around

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Overview of Interior and Exterior on a 2007 Lincoln MKZ in FWD (goo.gl/RikBDz). Purchased with 108,000 miles on the odometer. No problems at time of purchase, except needing to replace a/c compressor. This 07 MKZ is front wheel drive with a Ford Duratech 3.5 Liter (3.5L) V6 engine, producing around 264 horsepower (hp).
Check out Below for Helpful Links and More MKZ Videos, including a 0-60 mph test!
This base model MKZ had numerous package upgrades from the manufacturer, customized to the buyer at time of purchase. Some of the factory upgrades included a THX Sound System, 17-inch chromed wheels, sunroof, sports tuned package for brakes and suspension, and had both the heated and cooled front seats.
Some future upgrades will include a performance air intake system, Magnaflow exhaust, and possibly a performance chip. For the time being I focused on a new audio system, automotive led lights conversion for interior and exterior lamps (goo.gl/RikBDz), as well as LED Light Strips under the front dash and front seats towards the rear for some ambient lighting that is adjustable.
Since time of purchase, I have had some problems occur. It had some shuddering issues in the motor. Ended up being bad ignition coils causing misfires in the cylinders, requiring the replacement of the coils, as well as the spark plugs. At the same time we also had readings of a bad Power Control Module (PCM), which I also replaced at discount pricing from family. There has been some croaking and moaning noises coming from the front driver side suspension, which we replaced the control arm assembly and lubricated some dry bushings, with no success. It still makes unusual sounds driving over bumps, usually only heard in cold weather conditions. A bad tail light assembly had to be replaced as the LED bulbs it contains can't be replaced individually. Had some performance issues, leading to more chugging and power loss, but ended up being old fuel injectors needing to be replaced. Switched out all six and the car runs better than it did when I bought it six years ago and 30k miles less on the odometer!

    I miss my 08 awd mkz. I am picking another one up soon. Only downfall with these 3.5 motors is the internal water pumps. When they fail on higher mileage zeds it's about a $2k fix. Better replace the timing chain and guides while you're in there if you decide to go through with it. They did switch to a different coolant so get that changed out as well as it should help out with the life of the pump etc.

    Overall solid cars with few issues reported as widespread. Things I have heard or have had happen, is croaking noise from the front suspension in below zero temps, most likely caused by dry bushings. failed ac compressor. Power Control Module or Transmission CM causing unusual downshifting when slowing from higher speeds, possibly leading to cylinder misfires, as well as failures of ignition coils. Other than that, it has been a solid car. Horrible gas mileage (currently averaging with mostly city driving 18.0 mpg - lots of hwy it can get to 21 mpg). But its very comfortable, has more power than needed for size, handles great, and has lots of nice amenities (heat/cool seats, sound system, leather power seats, memory seats and mirrors, and sports tuning). hope it helps and good luck with the possible new car!

    @IntoWeapons It could always be worse. A lot of vehicles in that class from other manufacturers require premium fuel. If you do the math on that, it comes out to the equivalent savings of a good 4-5MPG. Your buddy might tell you that his car averages 24MPG, but if it requires 91 octane, you're still paying less per mile to fuel your "lower efficiency" vehicle. Food for thought.

    The only downside to this car (IMHO) is the speedometer shows 120 instead of the 160 my LS has. This is the successor to the LS so I'm annoyed that a nissan altima or maxima has a higher top speed. I will probably never even go past 110 on the highway but it's just nice to see that I'm not even going the maximum.

    I just purchased one last week. Mine is the AWD model 07 w 83K miles. It looks to have been well taking care of. Dealer replaced the trans mounts, air filter and gave it a wheel align. Wheel align still seems a bit off tho. The gas mileage isnt good thats the one kicker. Mine doesnt have the THX and the base stereo is mediocre..

  • @intoweapons

    @intoweapons

    7 жыл бұрын

    its a nice car, congrats! when I upgraded my stereo to a new headunit, amp, and subwoofer in the trunk, they unhooked the rear 6x9 factory "sub" speakers, and the other stock speakers remaining aren't that good anyway - the THX upgrade is over-rated in my opinion. personally if I purchased the car new, I would put that upgrade money towards an aftermarket unit. safe driving!

    @letsgonow5641

    Thanks i was looking at one exactly like the one i wound up buying. Only it was a 08 and it had 63K w the Thx. They would only budge $300 then they tried to add some bogus fee so i walked out. Are the rear speakers 6x8 or 6x9? If they are 6x9 great i will upgrade at some later point.. Also even tho the trans mount was replaced there still a slight kick..My dad thinks it might need a new motor mount as well.. I dont drive much these days so i should be able to stomach the gas mileage..I just have to cut down on random im bored let me kill time at Walmart trips..Lol..

    The gas mileage may lag behind the competition, but consider that those other vehicles require premium gas for optimal performance, while the Z gets by with regular. Given that the cost difference between regular and premium is as much as fifty cents per gallon, the per-mile average fuel costs on this vehicle are actually comparable and possibly even lower.

    I have read to watch for transmission issues (transmission down shifting prematurely causing a bit of a jerking when slowing down from above 40mph). I have personally had to replace some of the front suspension (control arm and some bushings), as well as replace my PCM and all of the ignition coils/spark plugs, when my car died on the highway. Other than that, solid car!

    In AWD models check and make sure the PTU isn't leaking. You'll usually smell it burning as the fluid drops on the exhaust. If it has a loud whine while driving then the driveshaft is shot. The carrier bearing in the middle is not serviceable. The dealer replaced my PTU which was $1300. I replaced my driveshaft which was about $600 but not a difficult job. They're also known for front wheel bearings. That was a bear of a job since you have to lower the subframe to get the lower control arm out. I love my AWD 07' though. It was worth the work to me. With snow tires it's an absolute beast in the snow.

    I sure hope you either purchased an extended warranty or have seriously considered it. You are out of any type of Powertrain or Emissions warranty from the Factory. I am a professional Technician at a large Dealership. I can tell you that Lincoln is very proud of their parts and the Dealer is very proud of their labor rates. Yes...it is a very nice car,don't get me wrong. I just felt obligated to put in my opinion as it may save you some serious money in the future. I highly recommend that if you do purchase an ESP that you get it from the Manufacturer. I have seen too many policies,sold by bullshit companies,that do not cover shit and leave the customer in a huge bind after paying big bucks for that policy.

Very few Buy these Luxury cars like Lincolns and Cads and keep them for more than 3 yrs , they buy new one's..( they're Wealthy or Lease their Cars) there is a reason why.. Maintenance can Drive the ave person Broke on them after 30-40k miles, warranty or not.. Tires? Get Good One's not cheap one, Min. GoodYear Ariva's if not Michelons.. And once the Eletronic dash starts to short out? Junk it for Parts at a scrap Yard! $2,500-$4,000 to R&R the Dash circruitry..same goes for the Trans.. BTW- in 2016? that 07' is only worth about $3k trade in and $5k Retail.. Get a 13' or newer..they are the New Model , look like the 16' & 17's and alot cheaper..I did with my 08' MKZ, got $6k for mine with 64k mi on it and bought a 14' for $21k with 22k miles on it. And Don't buy the Cheaper MKS either..looks like a Ford Focus in the back.. Oh BTW! You do know the Lincoln MKZ's are on a Ford Fusion Frame system..Just no Wing Grille! and the V6 is Going out and the 4cycl Eco Boost taking over and they are Dogs! Pigs.. Very Slow..but we can Thank the Gov't with Forcing Better MPG on vehicles and Ford is abadoning the Sedans and Mostly Crossover vehicles ..So is GM..
