I agree! A few years back the wife locked the keys in, and the locksmith partially pealed off the chrome on the inside of the door handle when he was unlocking the door... was going to get it replaced at the dealer, but they quoted $500+. So I covered it up with Chrome tape, and been driving my ghetto-mobile around until this weekend where the latch failed completely. Ive ordered the part for $12 on Amazon and will be dropping it in tomorrow. Thanks again for the video.

38 seconds into this video and I can open my door from the inside without having to roll down the window first. This is a neat little trick to use while I await my new door handle's arrival in the mail. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too!!! Forget about the removal of panel, lost clips and whatever else they were doing, I’m using the door unlock and handle pull trick. TYVM!!!!

Thank you not just for walking through the repair, which is great help and a great public service, but more importantly, THANK YOU for demonstrating the workaround to open the door using the lock latch. Until the part arrived, that saved me from having to constantly open the car by rolling down the window and reaching out to the outside, which was quite annoying in the tight garage.

Thanks to your informative video, I gained confidence as a 60 year old grandma to make this repair myself saving lots of expense! So thankful you posted this as it was fairly easy to do with a few simple tools!

My handle literally gave up about 15 minutes ago. Glad to see this is such an easy fix Thank you!!!

great video! that trick to use the lock button to open the door almost literally saved my life! too big to crawl through and can't roll down the dang window! sitting in the car and watched your video first to see if I can fix it and BAM! there's that little hint you put in there!

Great video. Many thanks. I too put my knee on one of the screws. Food for thought, if you use a cordless driver, turn the torque down to about 2 or you can run the screw through the bezel for the handle. All good now. I broke mine by using the handle to pull the door shut.

Thanks so much! I just finished this repair for a whopping $10 part and 20 minutes of my time. Also thanks for the tip about opening the door with the lock mechanism... It took a few days for the part to arrive, so being able to open the door easily in the meantime was great.

I got a driver's and passenger side to do,was it easy to install the panel over the clips?I am always afraid they will break when I am working on it.

Thank you for the information and the great video. Your tip about holding the handle out a little and then using the lock as the mechanism for opening the door really helped me out! I plan to replace the door handle, but this makes life easier in the meantime.

I’ll echo what others have said. Kudos for posting this video. Saved a boat load of cash and was done in less than 30 mins. One beer job at best. What a stupid design with the plastic that breaks. Glad I have the knowledge now to perform this repair if it creeps up again!

Great instructions and spot on. I just did this to my car with no problems at all following this guide. I even knelt on a crack on the floor in my garage and it hurt just like kneeling on a screw...LOL. Great job!!

By the way the dealer was going to charge $230 to do this, it cost me $35 for the part and took about 15 minutes to complete the work.

Awesome video Thank you. I just had this happen on my 2012 Fusion. The exact issue right down to the breaking area “notably made in plastic” Same cable being used for the lock and door pull. Perhaps a common problem because the mechanism part doing the actual work is plastic. You can’t create a part without knowing this will happen. Lol. Like Great video at any rate and appreciated!

Thank you for this video. This is the second time I've had this handle break. First time cost me $120 for parts and labor. This time, the part was $20 and 30 minutes of my labor. You just saved me about $100 in repair costs because I'm not a handy guy and couldn't have done it without a video showing me how.

Order the replacement door handles in metal form not plastic again! Metal ones cost more but are much much more reliable in the long run with little chance of breaking again!
