I have a 2002 exact package 206k miles.. Just got back from a 2500 mile trip in it, hands down the best car I have ever owned..runs smooth as silk.

This car isn’t even breaking a sweat while merging on the highway! I’d reckon it’d be quite easy not to notice oneself speeding!

Very reliable cars. Have a 4 cylinder version (XLE) with 210k miles that looks every bit as new as this one and runs great, too. Amazing cars.

Yes they are. Funny thing is, though, three weeks after I write that comment my Camry made me mad and blew its head gasket! The back three head bolts stripped out; super common issue on the first generation of that 2.4 4 cylinder. But I am going to keep the car anyway and try to forgive it lol

Man, that is sad. Supposedly, the 2.4s weren't supposed to have that issue unless the engines were overheated. Mine never overheated but stripped those back three bolts out anyway. It started as a gurgling/waterfall noise when starting the vehicle on a cold morning that would go away after one or two accelerations, then gradually became worse and worse until it was constantly making the noise. When coming to a stop, there was this Niagra Falls-like noise that was highly disconcerting. Then, it finally blew the head gasket. Anyway, as frustrated as I am with that Camry, I still know better than to give up on it entirely. That was just a mistake that Toyota made and they later fixed, so I can't hold it against them too hard being the first year of that car. I decided to fix it. Should have several hundred thousand miles of life left afterwards, I hope 😂

I remember the oil burning issue of the 2.4, the head porosity of some 2.4's, the intake manifold gasket prone to failure of the 2.4, and the electronic throttle body prone to failure... and expensive even wholesale on the 2.4. I cannot give the thumbs up to just anyone concerning the 2.4. The late 2009 2.5 is great, definitely by 2010. I just prefer the 3.0 with the very easy to change timing belt. Give it a Toyota water pump, tensioner, and idler at the same time and you're good for what is it about another 100,000? That's cheap enough to me. It's 90,000 miles.

I just bought a 2005 Camry XLE V6 as my second car. Overall, the built quality is very good, except for the cheesy fake wood trim, and the leather seats are decently comfy, though the cloth seats of this gen are definitely better. There's plenty of rear seat legroom. The radio and CD tape player works awesome, the controls and displays are top notch. The trunk is huge. My biggest beef with this Camry is just how light and lifeless the steering feel is. Compared to the heavy steering of my old '05 Grand Prix, which I loved, steering this car akin to driving through oatmeal. The best things about this car are its supremely smooth V6 and great ride quality. Oh, and the brakes on the XLE are excellent.

Yes steering is a thing you have to get used to little feel but it is sedan not sports sedan. I just recently put powerstop drilled slotted rotors and pads all 4 corners, even better than stock. I tend to brake late and hard and warp front rotors. To many yrs on bikes have made me a hard braker. Almost like I am in race lol. Gf says I am going to die if brakes ever go out, I said nope with camry just gonoff road and deal with it lol

Well! I was crashed twice at different times... I still repaired it on both occasions, because it had no problem mechanically speaking, but for my type of work, I already needed something more modern. If it hadn't been for that, I would still have it... it will always be one of my favorite generations. In my family we have had all generations of Camrys! to this day. 1982-2022. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

If the original 4 cyl has been repaired to fix the oil use issue this is what I'd pick if not some 4 cyl hatchback. But this car with a V6 is not only a luxury car but it will last a loooooong time and then with 250,000 miles it's still worth more than you'd think. Just depends on my mobility in 5 or 6 years whether I bought a 4 cyl Camry, Matrix, etc or whether I bought something easier to get in and out of. RAV4 would be a good choice... certain years. The nicest thing about having a timing belt and these were easier cars to do that. But you get a new Toyota belt, a new Toyota tensioner, a new Toyota water pump, and seals and probably check a few other things at that 100,000 mile interval and then you're all set for another 100,000. I've seen 500,000 on these V6's... I'm sure they followed the maintenance schedules.
