Perfect! Thank you for saving me the $800 my local mechanic was charging. Best part, my radiator was replaced about 18 months ago with one from NAPA and they have a lifetime warranty. I paid a mechanic last time and was $220 into the radiator and $500 into the labor last time. This time it was all changed out in a few hours. Youre a life saver!!

I just wanted to say thank you for the video. I watched several times, and read the comments. I was really unsure I would be able to change this radiator out. But your video gave me confidence. I had the whole thing replaced in less than two hours. I used the distilled water and was careful with not to get coolant in the transmission lines. It all went great!

Great video! Dexcool does not coagulate if is not 1) mixed with other types of antifreeze or 2) have stop leak type fluids introduced. I have had my Suburban for 14 years and always used Dexcool with zero issues. All the scares people have put out there are just that. Yes early on some gaskets had issues I believe but if you properly maintain your coolant system (distilled water etc) you should have zero issues with it. When you removed the second transmission hose be careful about all that coolant flowing over/near the ATF hose! You get any water in that hose and you could end up damaging your transmission after reconnecting the new radiator. Water and transmissions don't mix at all. Many transmissions are ruined on these same vehicles because the coolant leaked inside the radiator allowing coolant to enter the built in transmission cooler area and returning to the transmission. Lastly my 2004 Suburban does not have electric fans like this 2005. Guess they went to electric that year. I like those! Thanks for the great video.

Good video. I actually learned about the C clips on the cooler lines. Never know where you're gonna find a nugget of information. I wanted to pass on that the big-box hardware stores have these big black tubs in the concrete section that are great for jobs like this to contain the mess. They come in 2 sizes. The big one is about 2' x 3' maybe a little bigger, about the width of the radiator and is great for catching all the fluids that will pour out doing this job without the mess (the smaller one is great for oil changes) on your garage or shop floor. They're about 15 bucks a piece and well worth it. Good luck to all... and get your kids to help. Hot rodding and self reliant auto repair is becoming a dying art and that's sad because with all these videos available now you can pretty much do anything yourself if you try. It really is a golden age for turning wrenches. The good old days weren't so good. I'll get off my soap box now. Thanks.

Thanks looks pretty simple to do can you do a video on how you completely drain the old coolant?

One other thing you need to consider is your coolant mixture. You did good by purchasing 100% concentrate but you missed the mark by adding a gallon of hose water (should have used distilled) which resulted in 50/50 mixture. 50/50 is correct but you forgot to take into account the engine block/heater core which as you indicated you flushed out with water to get the Dexcool out. When you add 50/50 like you did to the reservoir and it ultimately mixes with the 100% water in the block, you end up with maybe 35-40% coolant mixture overall which is below the 50/50 recommended. Solution on this car is use only 100% coolant on the fill up which when mixed gets you to the 50/50. I have done the calculations and confirmed this. Good job flushing for this would be an example of how someone could mix Dexcool with other coolants and end up with issues blaming it on Dexcool. Yours did not have Dexcool in the first place so that was good. Again thanks for the video.

Thanks for sharing. I wish you also talked about what method you used to flush the coolant out of the entire system. I want to flush the system, but I'm not sure how to flush it with getting only minimal amount of coolant on the ground.

Thanks for the video. I noticed on my 7.4L the dex cool coagulates as you said. Anyone have suggestions on clearing the Head Gasket & Passages? To be sure, ive run water through the lines boiling, run flush\cleaner through the system and got some heat..... But its not near where it ought to be, ive also driven for a couple weeks around town without the thermostat juuuust to shake things up a BIT more. How would an expert CLEAR OUT head passages of tight gunk? #Bless

i am replacing that plus i am putting in a new water pump as well belt ,idle pulley, new hoses thermostat .

nice video man I noticed your hose was sucked in that means you need a new radiator cap for the pressure only about 9 bucks but a necessity. good luck. oh and by the way were you suppose to use dex cool for your coolant my gmc uses it you might want to check.

Remember only distilled water. Tap water usually contains calcium and other minerals that will clog up the radiator core tubes.

Great video I'm having the same leak issue now. I put leak repair into it. Was that a bad idea?

Yes, I did the same. It just prolonged the issue. Broke down during a real inconvenient time. Replace asap

More care needs to be taken with cross contamination. Coolant(Green) with transmission fluid. A little rough on the removal.

Really only caused problems in V6s and when owners would neglect to change it. I personally haven't seen issues with LS based engines like this and Duramaxes

what do you do with the old fluid? can you recycle it or is there a place that takes it? also, how did you flush the lines?

A man I got a 2012 Colorado instead of taking out the c clip I unscrewed it transmission fluid leaked out then clear water (engine coolant) its that normal?

There shouldn't be any water in your transmission fluid line. Maybe it was leaking from up top of the radiator hose. Just like his coolant was leaking from the top when he undid the transmission fluid line.

they sell quick disconnect for those lines not expensive

Try your a/c blower motor resistor under your glove box , see if the fan is spinning also a new one might look diff than the original they makes em universal now so they can fit multiple vehicles

The clips are on the radiator; there are fittings for the transmission lines and they already have the clips. No need to recycle the old ones. Just push the trans lines into the the fittings on the radiator,

Baaahaaaa......thinking the same thing. Could of eliminated a lot of catch pan relocating if he had just drained the coolant from the radiator drain plug before he even started all of this.
