2004 VW Passat 1.8T Wagon Review - Sam's Game Room

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

W-w... what? This isn't a video game! I felt like trying something new, and I'm incredibly pleased with the results. This is my car, and despite the jokes, it is a very good car. I should also point out that most opinions are exaggerated for comedic effect, so if you own a V6 or W8 Passat, no hard feelings yo. All joking aside, W8 Passats are pretty sick. By the way, the sunroof started working again the day after I made this video. It knows I was making fun of it.

It officially happened to the Golf in the US. The 2014 Golf wagon was called the Jetta SportWagen. They corrected the name of the Golf wagon to SportWagen in 2016. It was a marketing thing, Americans will think that if a golf is bigger (longer) it must be a Jetta, but its not. There was a real Jetta wagon before then though.

I have the same car sedan version, had it for 14 years nothing ever broke and the car has 220,000 miles on. It’s the bulletproof car and probably one of the best Volkswagen ever made they don’t make cars like that anymore. Funny it still looks pretty stylish after all these years.

I am clinging to my 2001 B5 ( pre-facelift) Passat wagon as long as I reasonably can, because it (and your B5.5) is simply hands-down the best-sized, best-configured car ever offered on the North American market. Acceleration is adequate, the driving experience is very good, and the versatility and visibility from the driver's seat are exceptional. I also like the clean, simple, elegant exterior lines and interior design.

i had a 2002 wagon and it was a very nice car. lots of good things there are to say about it. sold it at 180,000 miles. then got a 2010 wagon. if I compared the two, I would say like liked the 2002 better. but my 2010 seems better built and fewer things have gone wrong and I like the double culch. everything has lasted much longer on the 2010. that could end tomorrow but I'll save my tears for another day.

Being a 90s kid this is my favorite Passat, the wagon and the sedan, the GLX TDI 5 speed will run forever, the 1.8 tis a great engine, some can run forever with no issues, but of course there was the sludge common problem in those years, I had a B5 A4so maybe I am biased but whenever I see a clean be 5.5 Passat on the road I admire them

We bought one of the last pre-facelift 2001 B5 Passat wagons made, and still happily drive it 19 years later. I have never seen any other vehicle that can rival the B5/B5.5 Passat wagon's sweet spot combination of handling, versatility, safety, and efficiency. It is perfectly sized and perfectly configured, and I am royally pissed at VW for discontinuing wagons in the U.S. (Our other car is a recently purchased 2016 Golf Sportwagen. Better headlights (Xenons), better fuel economy, regular gas, slightly better acceleration, but overboosted, touchy brakes and reduced cargo space and rear visibility. Both are great cars.

We are keeping our 2001 B5 (last of the pre-facelift production) wagon as long as we reasonably can. No one has ever come up with a car with a better size and body configuration. It is basically an Audi A4 (I own a first-year-in-the-USA 1996) with adequate rear seat legroom.

There's not really anything too unusual to go wrong with these. I'd say to make sure it drives and shifts smoothly. The only problem I've had in 50,000 miles is ignition coils going out, CV axles, and the alternator, nothing too out of the ordinary.

We had one of the V6 ones. We had a really serious love hate relationship with this car. To be fair we bought it used with around 120k miles on it, but boy in the first year the passenger window stopped working, it poured oil all over the place despite it being in the shop multiple times to fix oil leaks, it needed motor mounts, and transmission mounts, it leaked coolant almost the entire time we owned it, all of the lights on the dash stopped working, twice throughout our ownership it died randomly, and would not start back up, after taking it to the shop both times they said they could not find anything wrong with it, and it was starting up again, BUT we still kinda loved that car...

(You forgot to mention the TDI) *ahem* I own a 2004 V6 Passat wagon and I am not offended at all because, after 2 years of ownership, I'd much rather have either a TDI or a 1.8T, especially with 4Motion and a manual. The V6 is not only lame on power by V6 standards (even when you fill it with premium) but it offers basically nothing redeeming about it compared to literally any of the other engines we were given in North America. The smaller engines suit the character of the Passat a lot better than the larger ones, though I will say the feeling of torque with the 1.8T is much more impressive with a manual than with an automatic. In any case, nice review! Fairly accurate with all points including that your car is not a Beetle and that the V6 is disappointing.
