I managed to get home only because I stuffed shop rags up under the linkage to keep it from dropping off the shift lever. Will be ordering this part tonight. Thanks to the author for video.I had the same problem on my Saturn Vue 06. It is a difficult to find part here in Canada since Saturns discontinued. This part I found on Amazon for $50 cad. The most difficult part of installation was to push the stick ball into slot.That took me an hour of swearing and whining. The trick is to put hand through the back whole behind the stick to hold the bushing pushing up and the stick pushing down. It took me an hour. So, it is not easy.

Sure...with the adjuster already removed from the stick, I turned it upside down while it was still attached to the cable so I could see the clip on the threads. I took a wide flat edge screwdriver and pushed it up making sure the screwdriver was applying pressure to both the tangs on the retaining clip. It took very little pressure too. If you can't flip it around, a small screwdriver can pry it up, that's what is noted in the shop manual. Good luck.

How do you get the clip in on the bottom of the new adjuster?

had difficulty removing the cable retaining clip, but once the old one was removed, the new one just popped into place. Take the entire assembled linkage, pop the shifter end in, and attach the cable retaining clip. Some say you need to assemble the bottom after shift stick is inserted, but you don't need to.

Correct, no need to reassemble it. It comes out of the box assembled and should be installed that way.

My gear is stuck in 1st gear....can I change the piece in this gear? Also, I do not see any threads exposed in the window...is this ok???

The other one popped out ,lost 1,2,5, and reverse, HELP

I have a 2006 Hyundai Elantra manual transmission , 3rd and 4th speeds won't go into gear , I started to dismount the transmission and when I got to the point of the shifter I found that the shifter cable bushing by the gear box is broken on one side of the middle , could this be the reason the 3rd and 4th won't go into gear?

Most likely it's one of the causes. You have to also figure out why it failed. Usually a bad cable will cause the bushing to wear prematurely. That's what happened in my case this fall. A bad cable caused failure of another shifter adjuster bushing so I changed everything out and it's smooth as glass now.

ejscarfo I think mine failed because the bushing is made out of cheap rubber lol , How did you notice that something was wrong? , did the transmission refuse to go into gear in any of the speeds? , in my case 1 , 2 and 5 work just fine , it's only 3rd and 4th not working , and 3rd goes in but kicks it out as soon as I let the clutch out, the 4th won't go in at all.

+Dario stud my stick went limp...it wouldn't engage any gear...the Saturn is different from your Hyundai in that one cable controls gears 1 thru 5. If the bushing goes, you have to move the cables my hand to get into gear. Usually when the tranny kicks you out of gear, the cable is pulling back or acting like it's too short if that makes sense.

Hey man, how do you disconnect the end attached to the gear stick?

Just push straight down on the adjuster and it will release the ball on the end of the stick. If not, then you can remove the key from the adjuster and it will all fall apart and come right off the stick.

Where can I find the adjuster? Is that the other side of the bushing underneath the gear stick ball?

+Darius Warner yes...the whole black plastic piece is the adjuster. Push down at the stick to release the ball from it and then pry up the square at the top to release it from the cable.

+youngsiouxeh is your Vue an automatic or manual? If it's the auto then your CVT is shot like all the others auto Vues
