ALTISSIMO!! Here is coverage of the Mens High Jump from the 2004 Olympics with some passionate italian commentators. Stefan Holm had a stellar year in 2004, being undefeated all season and it was undoubtedly the peak of his career. He won the olympic gold with a first up clearance at 2.36m. Matt Hemingway of the USA was second with 2.34m, and Jaroslav Baba of Czech Republic was thrid with 2.34m.
The audio gets a bit out of sync with the visual in some parts, but overall its not too bad..

Considering Holm was 5'11", it's just astounding he beat these giants. According to The Sports Gene book, Holm's achilles tendon was something like four times stiffer than the average man, which allowed it to store more energy and explode with greater force after compression.
One of the greatest high jumpers in the history of the sport. This earned him a gold medal.

And he still holds the world record....for jumping the highest height-margin above an athlete's own head-height. .......59cm. He is 181cm tall and has a PB of 240cm. Even Sotomayor couldn't manage that.

The technique and skill of these men is amazing. I am a jumped myself and I always have to tell people that track is more than just running, its just as intense and hard to perfect as any other sport.

OMGi saw him two days ago with his son (13 years old) competing in high jump and he jumped 1,78 (30 cm higher than stefan could in the same age

@@efisgprhe is like 18 now and still hasnt jumped 2.20 so the progression is slowing down but i think he was injured some time.

thats 1.89 :p the highest i have seen is 1.60 so maybe
