2003 Honda Accord Vacuum Leak & O2 Sensor Fix (P0171)

Ғылым және технология

Not all cars have a wide band O2 sensor as S1 with a narrow band as S2, that is just specific to this car. This video is meant to be partly a how-to video as well as an interesting story.

Good video thanks for posting. Every K20 and K24 engine i have ever worked on has a torn intake boot, right at the spot yours was leaking. I suspect they get torn from rough handling during install removal of airbox when servicing air filter. If you cannot get a new or undamaged one - Clean the tear and surrounding area with rubber safe cleaner, apply RTV INSIDE the crack ONLY, wipe excess RTV inside and outside, use Flex Seal type tape to wrap the outside of boot over the tear. Leave in sun or near mild heat to cure. Even electrical tape will work in a pinch. Stay gold

Check the MAF sensor. If there's a leaf on its grid or a bad electrical signal it could detect less air than there is actually coming out of the air box causing a lean mix. Not a common problem but related.

Did you put the old o2 sensor back in or drive for a long time on the new sensor? O2 sensors need to be calibrated to the car which might be why your trim is out, it wont ever be 0 though, usually somewhere between 0-5% as every car is different. Also I would probably put a disclaimer in at 7:36, as doing this on a car with a MAF sensor will destroy it. Accords don't but many cars do and the oil will cover the MAF sensor giving it bad readings.

You are so lucky you didnt damage the o2 sensor by crushing the housing. I've seen it a few times, it doesn't take much. 5:33

Check your purge valve and brake booster. Incidentally, the wide band sensor is referred to as an air/fuel ratio sensor. Fuel trims are calculated by subtracting st and lt and you want it to be less than 10. If propane worries you, just use carb cleaner or brake cleaner. Just be well ventilated with brake cleaner as it produces phosgene when burned. I use it all the time and haven’t had any issues. It may not be a bad idea to at least inspect, if not clean, your MAF sensor. Just use the proper cleaner and be sure it is dry before reconnecting. Lastly, did you ever clear your codes after any repairs? PS: this goes without saying, don’t ever get advice from a parts store. PERIOD!!! There may be exceptions to the rule with knowing what they are talking about; but they are just that. Exceptions.

My civic si with CAI and skunk2 headers. I also have p0134 error and changed sensor too. Still the issue is rpm drops too low and gets too lean like 27.1 afr when i shift gears. So i assume it is a vacuum leak somewhere
