2003-06 gm instrument cluster prnd321 & DIC fix no programming needed for odometer and vin info

This is the don mecca of all cluster gm cluster repair vids. All repairs have been done to this beast. Lights, stepper motors, prnd321 display, DIC display, and the odometer reading has been moved from one board to the next without any programming. I credit other videos on you tube for help. But seriously pulled one out of my *** to make a $25 fix instead of buying a $300 part that still needed to be programmed.

Great video. Almost spent tons of money sending it out to someone off ebay to fix this problem for me I spent $35 doing it myself by just buying a solder equipment. Didn't think it would work and it did. Thanks a ton buddy.

do you know what actually powers the DIC? my 05 denali intermittently works. I can tap the cluster sometimes and the DIC will work. Half of the time it won't.

SSilverstone07 in the right center section of the board by the 2 silver capacitors I found brown discoloration indicating an overheating issue. I resoldered everything inside that burnt area and the dic came to life. It's pretty obvious you have a bad solder joint on the board. Look for that burnt area and resolder everything in that area with lead bearing solder and you won't have any more issues.

awesome video bro thanks alot for the information that will come in handy if I have to get a new cluster and my pnrdl light is getting really dim so I know now where to look and how to fix it. I would like to put brighter bulbs in as well but I'm not sure where to get them iv go some from ebay before for an s10 but they were crap so I'll keep searching or if you have any ideas love to hear what you got thanks again.

Daniel McElhiney make sure the dial by your headlight switch is all the way up first. If that's not enough you can put any led in there with a resistor while u have it apart. Just make sure you get the +\- leads correct and the resistor on the + side the first time.

How can you tell which is negative and positive side? because in the past the leds iv seen soldered in the leads are cut so you can't tell which was longer. But new ones have the noticeable loner leg

Daniel McElhiney the boards have +&- signs printed on them I believe. If not you can always test each side for continuity to ground.

Hello, are the turn signal bulbs the same as the back lighting bulbs?

Lava Complete I know that mine was working intermittently and sticking sometimes. So I changed the whole signal apparatus and then it would just stick so I changed the blinker relay and it's all good now.

Lava Complete so if you still have the blinkers working on the outside. I don't think I'd pull the whole cluster apart just to change a blinker bulb lol

I bought a 2003 Yukon 2 months ago. No probs with gauges or display until today. I was watching the real-time estimated mileage coming home from a trip & the DIC suddenly went blank. Got home checked some fuses, made sure everything else was working. So far it seems only DIC/PRND is out. I mean it went from working to blank as I sat there and watched it happen. What's my best approach to diagnosing this fault? No experience removing the cluster, etc but motivated to fix it quick. 4WD has been on the fritz, hate not having the DIC to let me know it is acting up. Thank you.

Joe H. Watch a vid on removing and fixing the stepper motors. That will get it out and apart. My vid shows you the areas you'll need to resolder to get those displays up and running again.

I followed your instructions and put my Eprom chip from my 04 dash to an 03 dash unit. Now the odometer reads 0 miles (it was all kilometres before). How do I fix this?

jr260551 you have a bad solder joint or the chip suffered a static shock.

David Dobiesz. I think you might be right. When Desoldering, the gold pad nearest the "u15" came loose and I nearly shit. But it was still attached and I carefully soldered it in place. Is there a way for me to test the connections with a multimeter?

  • @daviddobiesz

    @daviddobiesz

jr260551 you have to trace the connection backward and try to find a hole in the board or another raised connection where it's exposed.

David Dobiesz yup I did that even checked the impedance across the terminal resistors downstream from each of the respective 8 pins. All good conductivity. I guess she was flashed. Now I have to find someone who will reprogram it for me. Fuck sakes, should have just sent it to one of the companies on eBay.
