The cutaway segment to Tom Clark bowling is an amateur is crazy! Never seen that before, and the fact that he is commissioner now makes it that much more interesting.

I bowled with Tommy D. back in the 90's at Cal Bowl in Long Beach, Ca in a pro-am event. Very down to earth guy, a class act.

Pretty ironic that they would call this the Long Island open, while the event was held in a different state altogether. I mean, Mohegan Sun isn't even exactly all that close to Long Island, it's nearly a 3 hour drive at best. Either way, it was a great show overall. Thanks for this :)

As someone who has lived in upstate NY all my life and who is infuriated every time the New Jersey football teams are referred to as “New York”, I am numb to this kind of thing… To be fair, only the tv show was held at the casino; the rest was at the bowling center in Syosset that they went to every year in this era.

@enigmazero8624 I wonder if they hopped the ferry to get across the sound. Definitely possible, and about 3 hrs less travel to go like 20 miles altogether.

What a boring show. The pocket is a given and just see who gets lucky. I feel like there was another Long Island Open show that was the same thing maybe 3 years earlier. It was at the bowling center instead of the arena but the results were the same. Strange.

@@enigmazero8624 similar pin carry was given at the 1996 PBA Flagship Open. Nelson actually talked about it on the TV show, and that kind of pin carry has to with the flat gutters next to the pin decks. When they install arena setting lanes, they bring those flat gutters to the highest allowable level, so the pins bounce out a lot easier. The reason they can't do that in a standard bowling center is because lanes get resurfaced with lane machines, and they will be out of tolerance in a short period of time because the lane machine presses down on those flat gutters. So just for the arena settings, they do that. That's why the pin carry is awesome in arena finals.

There is another all time great who 'choked' or "got second" quite a bit....he also won quite a bit. Earl Anthony is his name. And yeah, with all the seconds and thirds he got, you COULD call him a choker. Barnes has 19 titles and was right there for how many more? Dude is one of the modern greats for sure, any way you wanna slice it. But a "joke "? Lol...cmon..a bit harsh, no?
