After months of shopping for a sensible car, I bought the 1999 SLK spontaneously. 164000 Kilometres, 7000 Euros, 3 months' warranty, near-mint condition. Bright yellow, I call it the Canary (hopefully it will not need to be renamed the Lemon). I still can't believe it's mine and just keep gawking at it. Perfect car for Mediterranean weather! I would love to get an update on your "new" beauty.

I have a white one and I love it

With the EC button pressed, the AC is turned off completely. It doesn't work "partially" as you suggested. It's essentially an on/off switch for the AC. When it's pressed, the magnetic clutch for the AC disengages and the AC is off completely. In other words, just hot or cold blowers available. Oh, and you don't need to put the windows down first, before hitting the roof switch - it puts the windows down automatically when pressed.

This is by far, the best car ever made in my opinion. Yours is great and I love the colour of the interior. I had to laugh when you said about not having anywhere for your coffee!

Just be super careful when you have coffee in the holder, I had a minor spill that cost $1200 (back in 2014)to fix as coffee got into the shifter slot and fried the electric unit.

Oh damm. That's a shame. I sold the car to a friend of mine last year. He was feeling courageous one night after a couple of beer, drifted in a corner and smashed passenger side on the guard rail.

First Gen came out '96, not '99 ! I know, because I have one :o) Yours is still a first gen, but the post-2000 facelifted model.

I have one just like it, without the rust. Have it for sale if anyone is interested in it. Mine is not the two tone interior. Same exterior, all black interior. Very well maintained.

Umm. Depends on the previous owners service history. They are pretty easy to maintain compared to a lot of other Mercedes.

I was actually thinking of getting an MX-5 originally, but even though I can appreciate how cool you can make those look, these look more timeless imo, a bit like the RX-7 FD, speaking of which I was originally considering of buying my dream car (RX-8) as my first car, but that is probably not a good idea, but who knows. Thanks for the advice.

I just purchased a 1998 SLK230 with 83,000 miles no rust interior like new for $4,000 everything works besides the right side mirror and I don't know how she broke rear view mirror Sunburst yellow with yellow interior

I just sent it to a body shop and they fixed the rust and repainted the whole car.
