well done ! interesting and informative - I've had 2 C class Mercs but am now a step closer to my 1st SLK !
I wish you outlined in the comments a summary of all the issues, or just time stamp them, so it's easier to reference a particular issue and explanation
Thank you so much for your video. I have an idea of what to look out for. I'm hoping to purchase an SLK - always been my dream Car! I just knew it would start..... Mercs are amazing. My Grandfather loved them and I learned to drive in one of his many years ago.

Just bought my first SLK , an 2001 slk 200 Kompressor, to be completely honest, the car is a dream to drive. Even though suspension is alot stiffer then my E classe, it has that sporty feeling and pretty nice exhaust noise. Keep up the vids, and keep them educational, people will stream in that way;) Subscribed!

Thank you very much. It's a pretty reliable car other than some early 2000 Mercedes quirks. If you maintain it well, it will give you years of fun driv9ng experience. Change the oil on time religiously.

Thanks for making this video I'm possibly buying a 2001 SLK 230 as my previous car was hit and totalled by my insurance glad to know what to look for as my previous car was a 2009 BMW 328i xdrive, this merc sounds like a great car and the one I'm looking to buy has been owned by the same person since new has all of the service records from a Mercedes dealership and the car is mint for being in upstate NY it's whole life. After watching this video I'm going to go forward and buy it and enjoy it

Did buy the car?
If the engine runs rough, you should change the engine mounts. They are oiled filled and they leak and flatten out. You put new engine mounts on that thing and you won't feel the engine running anymore.
This car looks identical to the one I had for almost 9 years, except the interior on mine was dark gray. And that rubberized finish was flaking off on mine too! But yeah, I had many of the problems you talked about, especially the rusting quarter panels and holy shit, the clearcoat. The clearcoat on mine started flaking off like glaze on a donut. By the time I totaled it this past May, I'd say more than half the clearcoat was gone. But the funny thing is, people STILL complimented me on the car even though it looked terrible.
I just bought a SLK a little over a week ago! It runs like a dream! No rust, new Michelin tires all around! Cherry! I did put a 2000 dollar surprise fund just in case! Love it!

Very informative video, bought an SLK250 cdi 2013 a year and a half ago. I cant fault it . Plenty of power from the twin turbos and 204bhp. Irrespective of how hard or easy you drive it , the fuel consumption is amazing.

Have had a 230 Kompressor for 7 years, drove it from 145000 km to 300000 km. Very reliable, never had any problems, and i drove it very sporty. But the rust on the bodypanels, that's really a problem with this car. If you see any rust, would be best to fix and repaint the whole car.

Small Note on what you are saying. You are advising people to buy a facelift 230, which is what I have, 2001 year, but then advising them to get the 5 Speed Manual. The facelift models come with a 6-speed manual, the pre facelift (96-99) come with a 5-Speed manual.
