The 85th Running of the Indianapolis 500 was held on Sunday, May 27, 2001, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Sadly, it was the last one to feature the Alan Silvestri composed theme to the 1986 Chuck Norris/Cannon classic, "The Delta Force". This 500 was the true end of an era.
When that intro was shot, those men comprised all of the living Indianapolis 500 mile race champions, at that time.

@@kg0173 CART's top teams had the money and hired the best drivers. LOL Sharp won like 3 races in 5 years. He sucked. There's a reason why Penske, Ganassi, Newman/haas, Galles, Rahal, Tasman, Green and other top CART teams elected not to hire him. That reason is likely because the team owners were smart enough to tell which guys could perform under pressure and which guys would stuff it into the wall from pole position on the first turn of the biggest race of the year. Keep trying to justify that garbage league to yourself though. It seems to be fun for you.

I'll do it again one day because they don't call it "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" for nothing! Why is the broadcast quality so absolutely terrible? Was ABC still working on figuring out digital signal quality in 2001?
@BH28Racing
4 жыл бұрын
I think it’s mainly because it’s on a tape and they transferred it to digital. And they made it 1080p so it probably had some struggles rendering.
31:00 Simply fantastic to watch
Why is this and other old races have a digital break up throughout the video
They definetely did a horrible job remastering this one. The anti-aliasing is horrible and the video has frequent lags with encoder artifacts afterwards. The remaster is so bad that I may even prefer the unofficial 480p version that's also on youtube over this version. There is also a weird blocky effect sometimes when there is a panning of the camera and also sometimes when stuff just moves quickly laterally across the screen. Ther are also some editing mistakes or just plain questionable editing decisions. The commercials are cut out even tho they had the master tape or whatever without commercials at there disposal. This becomes evident around the 1:15:00 mark when they left the original recodring of the Sarah Fisher interview (which happened during a comemrcial break) in. I have no clue why this decision was made because it means that the interview happens two times in in this upload. Cutting out the add breaks even tho they were not even in the original tape isn't questionable in itsef but at some points (for example at 1:15:22) it seems like however edited this didn't perfectly hit the end of the comemercial break. This seems like a fairly small mistake but it's also a mistake that isn't in most remasters. At around 2:48:30 along with a very loud and anoying noise the blocky or lragmented line video artifacting I mentioned eralier gets really bad for a while The audio also has its problems the first major issue there starts at around 1:10:00 when there starts to be a weird whining noise/effect going along with the proper sound of the video that changes depending on pitch and loudness of the proper audio. This issue disappears after about 5 Minutes. A really jarring all incompassing noise that i would describe as flattering starts at around 2:48:30 and ends at around 2:49:00. This remaster is so bad that I may even prefer the unofficial 480p version that's also on youtube over this remastered version. I can't understand how anybody could have thought, that this would be good enogh to release on what appaers to be the official Indianapolis Motor Speedway KZread channel.

Twenty years later I remember two things. Seein Helio for the first time and watching Tony Stewart race twice Seeing Tony attempt both races is quite an accomplishment with how well he finished in both. While I’m sure the win itself means the most if Tony could’ve won you gotta know he wouldn’t have had enough time to go to victory lane, get the wreath, or the milk. While I’m not sure any other Nascar driver will compete at Indy as well as Tony did on this day I wonder if there would’ve ever be another driver to attempt both races? I know Kurt Busch was the last to attempt. I’d love it if Chase, Blaney, or even Kyle would give it a shot.

Not really, the level of teams came down and that wasn't a bad thing. CART was like 2-3 teams dominating. IRL had small one car teams, races were unpredictable, you couldn't guess the winner. When driver dominated he usually had a blown up engine.
@erikcorredor255
3 жыл бұрын
@@kg0173 Actually, in professional sports, when "the level of teams comes down" it IS a bad thing. There's a reason why people pay money to see top level leagues - because they want to see the best teams and drivers.. The irl was a joke because the garbage crapwagon cars blew motors regularly. That's but one reason why the stands at irl races outside of indy ALWAYS looked emptier than a high school football game. NOBODY wanted to see b-league drivers and teams blowing motors and wrecking cars every weekend. If they did the .1rl would've had decent ratings.

Greenfield is in the Indianapolis television market and the race is blacked out there, then shown at 7:00 p.m. local time later that day. The only exception was the 100th Indy 500 in 2016, and the pandemic years of 2020 (when no one was allowed in) and 2021 (capacity was limited to 150,000 or so, but there was a lot more than that thanks to Penske out smarting the local government).
