Sad....sucks bc back in the old days there were deaths almost every year. We have been acclimated to a much safer form of racing, but never totally safe. Wilson’s was just a freak accident. Wheldon’s death could have been avoided if the ICS had listened to the drivers’ concerns before that infamous Vegas race. Thankfully the cars are as safe as they ever have been.....but racing will always be dangerous

First Wheldon in the disaster in 2011 and in 2015 Wilson got his head struck by a nose of the care which ended up in a concussion

Sad is Helio still can’t win a championship but his fellow Brazilian Tony Kanaan not just win the Indy500, he also won the championship in 2004

I remember watching this race with my Grandma.

What a day that was! I will never forget it!

Anyone else back here watching classic Indy 500's to get hyped for this Sunday's 106th Indy 500? Can't wait to return to this legendary track. Hoping for Helio's 5th or Dixon's 2nd!

This was the first IndyCar race I ever watched as a matter of fact

I'm so glad Helio Castroneves won that race. He totally deserved it after worrying about a jail sentence.

Seeing the family holding hands during the last 5 laps gives me chills!!! I bet they're gonna do the same thing on Sunday if Helio Castroneves makes history becoming the first driver to get 5 Indy 500 wins, and tie Al Unser Sr. as oldest driver to win the Indy 500 at age 47. Fun fact: This was my first IndyCar race I ever watched

Man what happened to these high effort actual production intros to the 500? They did them for every one from like 1980 on till the early 2010s and now they are just gone for no reason.

I love the Intro with the voice of Powers Booth! Great actor!

Over all it a beautiful race i love watching the Indy car 500 and i love Castroneves he my favorite driver.

How can one NOT see Helio's strength--shown in so many ways--and eventual 2009 victory, as God's sign that He had blessed Helio after the evil IRS unjustifiably went after him. If it is not an act of God, it is certainly the best example of poetic justice I have ever seen.

This years coverage on NBC was horrible. It was nothing but commercials and advertisements (every 9 laps). What made it even worse is that when they came back from commercial they would have more sponsor shit to talk about then go to Mike Turico and Danica Patrick yapping about nothing. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse they would throw it over to Jimmie Johnson and Steve Latarte to ramble on about things that they know nothing about. Johnson has the personality of a blade of grass. Whey NBC thought it would be a good idea to bring in a couple Nascar guys to talk is beyond me. Johnson has done nothing in his two races in Indy cars. If NBC has the race again next year I'll record it and watch it later skipping the commercials. What little of the race the viewers got to see was pretty good but the coverage was the worst I've ever seen.

Not even close to her best race. Motegi 2005, Nashville 2008, Milwaukee 2009, Texas and Homestead 2010. Five races she could have won on pure pace having the best car and making the best moves throughout the field, not by luck or other's misfortune. She drove well in this race but she had too much downforce to hold off Helio even if she had been 1st on the final restart.

2:37:36 on the upside, the car looks terribly clean, and that counts for something!

Its unbeliveable that there were some marshalls who tried to avoid helio on doing his climbfencing!

It truly was a month of may for him. What a whirlwind of crap he had to endure outside the track. After checking the information, I think that crap was a cash grab by the IRS considering at the end, they dropped all charges.

Fittipaldis lawyers turned the IRS onto Castroneves after they lost the case brought by Fittipaldi because Helio didn't pay the management fee to Fittipaldi. Penske called Castroneves directly after Greg Moore got killed and Fittipaldi didn't get his cut.

I still think this is the craziest Helio Indy 500 win. His lead he gained at the end was just totally unreal. I don't think I've ever seen someone win the 500 by 2.5 seconds.

I just need to point something out here....the first lap wreck was Mario's fault who was on the inside with Marco having a decent run on the outside. Yet, in 2015 the exact same crash happens with Sage Karam and Sato with Karam on the inside squeezing Sato into the wall and in that instance it's Sato's fault...I'm so glad these two dolt hammers are out of the booth.

The difference Moraes had no one inside of him, therefore he should've been able to leave Marco plenty of room. Sage had someone to his inside and Sato came flying around to make it three wide, leaving Sage no where to go. I'm also glad Cheever Goodyear and Marty are gone but they actually got both of these calls correct.

That mistake in the pits by Danica probably cost her the race.

I’m glad Hélio won his 3rd after everything he went through but this race didn’t have a lot of great racing in it.

I am a Team Penske and Heilo Castroneves (Castro-Neves)fan and was sad when he was released. Happy that he was picked up by Meyer-Shank and finally got #4. Hopefully he will make A.J.'s prediction come true and get #5. Good luck next Sunday.

There's a lot I don't miss about the Split years, but the "[star driver] going to NASCAR" fad belongs on the ash heap of history. It was almost automatically assumed that IndyCar/Champ Car would serve as a stepping stone to stock cars.

Oval racing is harder than you think. It's a completely different animal from F1. You're driving faster and closer. The car can very easily slip out from under you. Even more so than a Formula 1 car. Ayrton Senna might've won 1 or 2, but 10? Really? He has basically zero prior experience when it comes to oval racing. If he still lived today, he'd still probably get his ass handed to him by guys such as Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud, Alexander Rossi, etc. However, I will be fair. Fernando Alonso has competed in two Indy 500s so far and his 2017 loss can be credited to an engine expiration and his 2019 loss can be credited to Mclaren's unpreparedness. So maybe Senna would do well, but he'd still struggle against those who have been in this sport for much longer.

As far as IRL cars go I like the earlier cars better, but CART/Champ Car and the current aero kits look better. I'd say the ugliest IndyCars were the 2015-2017 manufacturer aero kit era. Yikes!
