I'm 70 years old and have been driving a morning since a was 16. Currently drive what I consider one of Harley's classics. That's a 1998 Road King Classic with the 1340cc EVO which is considered the best engine ever made by Harley.Vivid black with only 25,000 kms or 15,600 miles!!! It looks like it just came off the assembly line. I've had so many offers to buy this bike it's unbelievable. I will drive it until I can no longer lift it off the kickstand. Lol

My Harley is 20 year old but I have a Honda that is 50 year old I strap to the motorhome, here in UK it's not unusual to see bikes 60 year old but we don't do big miles it's like toy town 😆👍

I bought a 2014 Road King last year - first bike after 40 years with no bike. I'm 70 now and remember my first 1973 Yamaha 175 dirt bike, and a couple of Kawasakis over a few years later. This Harley is the best ride ever. I'm with You on all the reasons to ride, and certainly the 1 not to. That reason kept me off over 40 years, but I couldn't resist - I just had to buy that Beast looking at me on the showroom floor. Yeah baby. I couldn't be happier. Ride safe and be well.

Us older riders need to stick together. I've been riding for about 50 years now. I've also seen a lot of stupid stuff on the road that didn't make any since. I was on our bypass when a semi was merging on. I got in the left hand lane to let him on. So he got on and he decided to he also wanted in the left hand lane for no reason because there wasn't anyone in his right hand lane in front of him to pass. There wasn't even a left hand turn off at all. He pushed me onto the shoulder of the road. I just accelerated and flipped him off. It was if he was trying to kill me.

I love to get on my old knucklehead chopper, reaching, pulling and twisting knobs like some old steam engine from days gone by. Nothing better than going through the priming ritual, gas off, kick, twist, kick twist, flip it on 1/4 twist, kick and boom 1 time! Potato, Potato, Potato. All the sounds and smells of a generator motor chugging down the road with a grin on my face that can't has with a $60k M8 CVO of today. Although I have a 97 EVO softtail classic, my go to and a 99 twin cam roadking, thanks dad miss you RIP, for those lazy days.

Agreed on all. I'm only 55...hardship got me full time on a moped to 6th grade and got a rebel at 16 and my 1st Harley 2 days out of the infantry. That was 9 HDs ago and almost 44 years on 2 wheels on the streets and I can't imagine not riding. One guy in my CMA group just hit 90. Still rides 30k a year and travels all over the country on his old Softail. Thanks for the great video. Ride easy. 👊

My Sportster is a 1999 with 400000 miles on the engine. Motor is untouched. Compared to the crap that is a twin cam or a milwaukee-eight I don't think my bike is ever going to wear out. Two up in August in Florida oil temperature is 200°. The bike rides as cool as cucumber. A 20-plus years old it is the baby of my collection. Old is when your bike is nearing its century mark. Today's Riders do not register on their bikes because it is too complicated the tools are too expensive and you need a PhD in computer in order to work on your bike. I am so glad the Chinese came out with an evolution Sportster. Hundreds of thousands of people in countries where they cannot afford an American-made Sportster will be introduced to the pleasure of riding a Sportster that they can afford nevermind the tons and tons of aftermarket parts. My Sportster is like the Energizer Bunny it just keeps going and going and going. I've had my Triumph TR6 for 40-plus years now. Simple light economical that's so satisfying to work on when it does need something which is not very often. You can't blame the motorcycle if a forty-year-old part lasted forty years before wearing out.

Yea, my Sportster was the first year Evo ('86) 1100cc later bored out to 1200cc. Very dependable. Just too small for me AND my ol' lady on long rides. I did the cam-gear swap on my Twin Cam and has been rock-solid since.

Chief, #6, it's called "living the memories of the bikers of old". I'm 58, never had a bike(yet)!, have heard the "ride" stories-helmet free, knees in the breeze, loud obnoxious pipes and the crazy party/barbeques! An older bike evokes those memories. #8. So much "driver assist" crud on them, you don't have the feel of a real bike ride. "Old school" is still "good school"!🏍️👍🤓💔🥺 Doug

Good points. Shop around, deals can be found. I've had my '98 for 22 years. I've replaced virtually everything over that time. Still cheaper than getting a new one. S&S 111 and a 6 speed can eat some miles. Recently bought a' 99 FLHRCI as a second bike and so my oldest son can ride his own, at my expense. The younger son already has one. This one was a garage queen. 25k miles on her. Another great thing is it is easy to get parts for old Harleys. Been riding for 46 years. Prefer riding solo but don't mind riding with capable friends.

if you have experience riding other bikes, you'll have no problem with a Road King. They're surprisingly nimble and easy to maneuver. Being able to quickly remove the windshield on a super-hot day gets that wind in your face! I rode a Goldwing one time thinking I might go that route but couldn't wait to park it and get back on my old familiar Road King. Won't make THAT mistake again ;)

Harley-Davidson are built so low to the ground so even a midget can ride them that you can't even make a simple left hand turn without dragging expensive parts. 850 lb that's 100 lb heavier than my Ural sidecar outfits which is thick Soviet steel you wrap the sidecar with your knuckles and you'll hurt your hand. A big twin Harley originally was a 500-pound 110 mile-an-hour Speedster and they came from the factory with a certificate stating that it went 110 miles an hour. Now they are a bloated behemoth almost twice as heavy as what they were originally packed with expensive Electronics just waiting to crap out that cost you a fortune. Everything you did to your twin cam should have been done straight from the factory.
