@@Pounder6407 They are nice bikes for sure. Lighter weight, but still have the touring frame. No fairing weight to deal with. A windshield for rain days and you can pop it off or on in a minute or two. You can add a sound system if you like. Put speaker lids on the saddle bags. Or just listen to the music of the wind and engine. A cell phone for GPS. A cup holder for your favorite road beverage and you’re golden. I like to keep things as simple as possible. The Road King is a bare bones touring bike. In my opinion, it’s the best touring bike in the Harley line up.

It's yours to ride the way you want, as many or few a miles you want. Pay no attention to what other people think on this subject. I've ridden for nearly 50 years, about 20,000 miles a year. After getting hit by a deer last year and breaking a pile of bones, I had to decide if I would quit riding. I resolved the question when I decided to cut way back on my miles per year. I figure the less mikes I ride, the better my chances. I no longer ride as my main source of transportation after 50 years of doing so, but I still ride. Nobody else answers for my actions except me.

Great video covering the venerable Road King and its history. The Harley Davidson Road King is one of the most elegant, stylish and archetypical Harley Davidson motorcycles ever produced and forever etched in HD's rich history of nostalgic motorcycle designs. The Road King is the personification of a Harley Davidson icon. Road King stands supreme and has no equal. Those select riders who own one are indeed privileged. I have a 2003 Road King Classic, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, with the Screaming Eagle engine upgrade from an 88 V-Twin to a 95 done by Harley Davidson after the bike was purchased new. The instant producing torque and exhaust sound is exhilarating. Some of my recent mods include adding the Ultra Cool Oil Cooler which has turned out to be a great choice. My engine's never been happier. Another mod was adding the Power Commander 6 Tuner and my Dyno Tune shows my horsepower rated at 88+ and my torque rated at 99+. Which suits me for my 03' Road King Classic. My Road King with its original anniversary Two-Tone Sterling Silver and Vivid Black paint colors stands out. The commemorative medallions seen throughout this ride's sculpted design adds to its nostalgia, mystique, and exclusivity.

I bought a used RK Police bike out of NJ in 2001. I loved that bike, and I would say it was the best riding bike I have ever owned. I could ride all day and only stop for gas and something to eat. Of course being a police bike it was made for city streets or interstates and she handled both with ease. I miss the smooth ride it gave even on bad roads with potholes. I do miss it sometimes, but I went for the cruiser bikes after I sold it. If I ever wanted another touring bike, without hesitation it would be another RK!

The bike was beautiful and less Bells and whistles. After, I sold it for a 2022 with the Milwaukee 8 engine no mods all stock and still love it like it was the 2006. The special is still a very cool bike, but it's not like a real RK to me. No windshield and many of the extras are missing. This is the bike that made me come to Harley 15 years ago on an EVO model, it is for me the archetype of the traditional Harley in the lineage of the Hydra and Electra of yesteryear, I also had a Rushmore 103 from 2014 and it was one of my favorites. But at 65 years old today, these bikes are too heavy for me and today I ride a 2019 M8 Heritage Classic which retains the iconic Harley look but which is so much more manageable and fun to ride... But the Road King will always hold a special place in my heart... Greetings from France.

Not create a new 9 letter $35k model with a bunch of stuff ya don't need or want. As far as the M-M fuel injecton, dealers won't service it, parts are very scarce. bought a 04 Road King last year, and added the hydraulic chain tensioner from the Screaming Eagle, just last week the compensator was making a noise, so I opened it up to see the nut loose and a stripped bolt on the casing. red lock tight re-torqued it and tapped the bolt with a helicoil. we will see what happens, at least till the fall. other than that I love the King. Back in the 80's it was my BMW all the way, but not anymore, I have learned as I get older that with time things do get stiff in the bones and need to be taken care of, and so does the King, it's not a negative just routine check-up.

I have the same bike -minus the anniversary colors. Apparently that was fairly common as people were not crazy about the 105th copper orange/charcoal gray two tone thing they did that year. I actually like the sunglo-burgundy better that someone substitute ordered on mine -plus ponied up $4K on a full stage I, and then only rode it 5K miles before I got a hold of it. Was a super cool find. Enjoy the hell out of riding it 😎👍👍

Wrapped it up with a custom dynotune. The Road King is an excellent choice if you’re a modification type guy

I have a Y2K RCI with the TC88 & MM intake. Paid $10k in 2003 with 7k miles on it. It’s an excellent sled, everything you need and nothing you don’t. I do most of my own wrenching on it, but kept in touch with the main wrench (his name is KnuckleDragger) who uncrated, tuned, & stage 1’ed this bike. He’s been my source all these years. Cam idlers replaced @ 40k miles & they needed it done. Replaced with stock as it was all I could afford at the time. I was ready with the credit card if I had needed to replace the cams, & had put on a Power Commander instead of playing tune-up-to-2 new cams with the MM intake. Never touched the Power Commander & the MM still purrs. Besides brakes, batteries, motor mounts, plugs, and head breather flaps this bike don’t owe me a dime !!! The Y2K was one of the only years with air-ride front & rear, and making the switch between 1-up and 2-up is a breeze. It rolls down the road like a Caddy in a FL Hwy !!! I switch saddles between a HD Sundowner & a Corbin solo and a HD Ultra 2-up when I’m with the ol lady, and add a bitchback for safety, comfort, and slip-on luggage. LOVE THE KING !!!

If I eventually get one, I would strip off the bags and protectors, put a solo seat on it, upgrade the suspension, and ride it as a naked bike. It performs great, looks great, and will last forever! BTW would love to see you do a video on the Rushmore project. Keep bringin' the good stuff!!!

I had a 2007 RK and loved it. Only couple issue I had with it, one was the exhaust cross over pipe. This was one of the years where it was up high behind the rear cylinder hard mounted. Know for cracking. Dealership wanted over $200 for it, so I went with a V&H true dual head pipe. Gave it a tune and it ran great. Hated getting rid of it. Other issue was the spoked (or wire lace) wheels. Rear one had some come loose and caused the wobble. Anyways got rid of it because it stripped teeth off of belt. Probably due to issue with the rear wheel.

It is a 2002 FLHRI Twin 88 it only a 5 speed but was surprised how well it does for 5 speed, does not whine when scooting down the interstate at 85 or 90, but i tend to ride back roads too and it plenty nimble enough to handle our curvy foot hills roads of Eastern KY. I did replace the cam chain tensionerers and had gaskets and seals replaced while in the process.
