No kidding, this kinda overbearing shit is the type of thing that'll land parents in nursing homes, the cheap af nursing homes, or even worse, the worst reviewed ones, intentionally, that is of course assuming their kid even survives when they finally get freedom and possibly end up going on an alcoholic if not drug addled binge. Isn't life wonderful? Just a sprawling web of cause and effect.

@@davidavidlulx654 yeah, the best parenting is giving your kids free acces to porn and pedophiles. Different family values bro. When you love your family you protect them, and you show them why certain things are bad, and why you can't let them do whatsoever their young minds want to do. The opposite of that is giving them freedom to distroy themselves. Just cuz they get exposed to things at school doesn't make those things morally acceptable and ok for their development. It comes down to values, and I love my kids too much to give them an unrestricted phone.

I look at it this way: As kids show they're trustworthy & honest, they earn freedom and privileges'. :) If deceptive and untrustworthy, freedoms limited for a time and then reinstated as kids grow and stay within the safe boundaries. Parents aren't perfect, but they really mean well and want to protect as best they can.

It does suck knowing u can't completely keep your kids safe w/o them thinking your ruining their lives. My daughter was caught in school posting inappropriate content and I came down pretty hard on her. I felt bad and was doubting myself afterwards. Then I was talking to my friend (I've known her since middle school n we r now in our 40s) She told me not to feel guilty about trying to keep her safe cuz now that she's older she wishes her mom did something about her wild behavior back in our highschool days. It would have saved her from a lot. A lot of heartache and a few more than dangerous situations. It did make me feel better. I'm still struggling w the trust issues and I don't like taking their privacy. It doesn't feel good. Idk I'm rambling now. Thanks for the content and info.

The internet isn’t a safe place for kids. As parents we would never let our kids into a bar, or visit sex shops, or watch porn. For all the parents who think their kids wouldn’t do “anything inappropriate” it’s not about control, it’s about safety. Developing minds shouldn’t be given access to unsupervised and unrestricted content. It could cause all kinds of issues. Body shaming, bullying, indoctrination of any kind, unrealistic expectations, social media is extremely unhealthy, and the internet can be a gateway for predators into your home. Parents please protect your children! Don’t feel bad!!!!!

Don’t feel bad. Your kids will always think they know better than you, which is not true 99% of the time. They are only in your care for a short period of time. It is your job to protect them, and guide them. Do what you need to do to keep them safe, and guide them down the right path.

Have the same feelings at times but I always do my best to communicate to them why I do what I do. A lot of it is to benefit them in their future lives but they're still kinda young and don't fully understand things like addiction or the consequences to being online too much. It helps that they both feel comfortable enough to argue their own perspective(s) too because I may not see or understand something unless they tell me. Wishing you luck !!

For all the kids reading this and demonizing their parents: give them some grace. They’re trying to strike a balance between the shit world we live in and do what is our duty, which is protect our children. They’re not always right. But they’ve been around the block, probably experienced things they wouldn’t wish on their worst enemy, and believe that mitigating pain and keeping kids safe from things they won’t understand for years to come is not an easy choice. None of us asked to be here but we are… stop the entitlement, go outside, engage with people in your community you could help and make a difference in their lives. You’d be surprised just how lucky you are.

My childhood: -8 pm curfew til I moved out at 18 -worked at 16 at a 5am job til 10 -paid my gas and car insurance and didn’t have a cell phone til I got said job, which I also paid for (monthly bill and device) -homeschooled myself through a college program with no help because everyone worked -no boyfriends til 16, even then, no dates unless at our house where we were in common areas -no outings without a chaperone You get the idea. My hope for you all is that you’ll stop rolling your eyes at this, realize you’re privileged even being on KZread to make your comments , and get some perspective on life. Read a book. Help others. Find a purpose outside of social media. The problem isn’t your parents necessarily. The problem is communication. We’re not perfect. Talk to your parents. You’ll find most of the time you have more in common than you realize.

Kids getting around parental controls, makes me happy to hear that. Hell I did it myself back in my days as a kid...and rightfully so. My mom set up parental controls on my WoW account back in the day and in 2007 I got around it, how? Using her work computer, I started by getting on the account (thank you password autofill), turning the parental controls off, changing the password on the account so she couldn't get in to reactivate it, and deleting all the alerting emails from her inbox then purging them from the trash. My mom was pissed, cause naturally I was caught playing in person after the time the controls were supposed to cut me off, that was until she saw that after I cut that shit off I actually started doing my homework instead of ignoring it to get time in on WoW before it cut me off, and started hitting the honor roll. Then again, maybe we should be addressing teachers who fail to teach in the classroom and delegate the task to a packet. Like ok, you're not teaching the subject now, the paper is, a paper you probably found online somewhere, the fuck are taxpayers paying you for then, exactly??

Why are there seat belts in cars? Is it because the government doesn't trust us to stay seated in the car? No, they are there to protect us when the crap hits the fan. Same with parental controls. It is not about trust, unless you have previously broken that trust, it is so they can protect you from things you may not understand yet.

I really don't get why I have screen time. my parents block off all things on my phone to the point where I can't text my friends. I have a 3 hour limit on all apps commended including school apps. If I say I want more time for school apps they said I should have used my computer and Im now stuck with having no way of communication with anyone online. Im a strait A student who literally does nothing bad. I'm 16, my parents control every aspect of my life and I hate it. I really don't get why parents control someone that much. It makes me feel like they don't even trust me at all. I hate it.

I'm 17 and still dealing with parental controls and the trust between me and my parents is completely and utterly obliterated at this point. I'm a straight A student with a 3.98 GPA, taking college classes as a junior in high school, and I have a healthy social life. I now struggle with controlling and managing my ability to know when to get off my phone and computer, along with getting distracted with KZread, games, etc... I don't think I was given enough time to properly gain that ability to control myself with technology due to the restriction I had all my life and now I'm going to be screwed in college with all the distractions that will come with my newfound freedoms. I recommend learning right now how to control yourself and to make sure you can healthily manage your time with technology and gain the ability to know when to get off your phone or computer and what apps or websites to refrain from visiting because if they continue to restrict you all the way up till you're out of the house, you're going to be freaking screwed when all these freedoms are suddenly available to you, its going to ruin your life. It's setting you up for failure.

thx for giving me ways to bypass controls, tbh what the point of giving your child a device if you cant even trust them. All this is doing is pissing them off and makes them feel like there parents don't trust them or even care about them. You think your keeping your child safe and its out of love, but your kid doesn't feel like he's being loved. Your kid feels like he's a prisoner, and at this point he's better off without a phone cuz he cant even friking use it without someone spying on him 24/7 or the fact that everything is blocked.
