$20 DIY Dining Table* $203.57 Profit *6 Months To Pay For Itself! How To Build A Herringbone Table
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Update: It took 6 months for this table to pay for it self through YT ad-sense revenue. Ha!
As of the end of April 2022, I've made $203.57 in profit. :-)
To round out 2018, today I'm going to show you how it only cost me $20 in lumber to make this wooden herringbone dining table. Happy New Year!
For the table top, I ended up using eight rough sawn boards that were marked down to $1 a piece and one 2x4 (regular price) that I had left over from the shed build. For the legs, it only took three 10-ft 2x4s that were painted orange, yup $1 a piece as well. So in total, the wood cost me less than $15! It did take some work, though, to make it workable, but you see how I do that in the video. 😊

Really appreciated you keeping in the mistakes and missteps. I’m a beginning woodworker and make these kinds of mistakes all the time so it’s comforting to see when it goes bad, but eventually put back on track for an awesome final product. ♥️🙏🏽

Thats a beautiful table. And just for 15$. Wow I love when people can admit their mistakes in their videos and we as a viewer can learn from them. You had indeed not added the height of the OSB, but hey, you can learn from mistakes!

I enjoyed watching the process with you starting from scratch. I like how you also showcased all the mistakes along the way as it’s helpful for us beginners to know some mistakes we might also make and finding solutions for them. Love the table!!
Great production quality! And awesome result! Thanks for the upload, can't wait to see more!

Since you glued the herringbone pattern edge to edge and to the osb, what happened when the wood swelled or contracted with seasonal movement. I ask because I’m about to build it myself, just curious if you had cracks in the joints a few months later?
@WatchMeDIYIt

Great question! Some boards have shifted up a little. One thing I didn’t pay attention to was that the boards were flatsawn, and the direction I placed them on the osb made a few cup upwards. If I were to build it again, I wouldn’t rely on glue alone. I would use dowels in between the boards to mechanically hold them together as well. It also doesn’t help that we keep the table outdoors. 🤣
How much did the tabletop bow or sag after you had laid down the herringbone pattern and glued in place? Also what was the final size of this top?
@WatchMeDIYIt

Hi. The table actually didn't do any of those because it had a stretcher in the middle. the size of the table top is roughly slightly smaller than a full sheet of plywood. Imagine sizing it down an inch or two from each side. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video, it gave a lot of ideas and motivation to build one. i have a question, if I put glue both below the boards and between them, will that be enough to completely seal the space between them so water and other liquids don't get inside the table? If there are other things that can be done to seal them I would like to know 😬.

Jelly G. Theoretically, if you add enough glue, it should fill up any potential gaps. I was at Rockler yesterday and the person who helped me suggested I try marine spar varnish. Thank you for watching!

@@WatchMeDIYIt thanks for the answer and yes, I totally forgot that marine varnish. A lot of people here use it when building stuff that will be in or near the beach, takes a long time to dry but is far better than normal varnish.

I built 6 table tops with different patterns each (herringbone, chevron, inverted chevrons, diamond, spiral chevron and an interpretation of our flag) all them look great. It was all possible thanks to this video, learned a lot in the process. 😊

It was rough sawn wood from the HD. I think it's pine.
Looks like the legs would of been every 3- 2x4....keep it simple...than square it after gluing!
My husband used these plans from woodprix and he's very satisfied.
